The WONDERfools absolutely deserves a 10/10

The WONDERfools absolutely deserves a 10/10 from me! This drama had me laughing so hard in every episode, and the cast chemistry was amazing. It balanced comedy, heart, and emotional moments perfectly, which made it impossible to stop watching. I’ve already gone back to rewatch some of my favorite scenes because it was just that enjoyable. Honestly, I’m really hoping for a Season 2 because I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters yet. One of the funniest and most entertaining dramas I’ve watched in a long time!

Interesting kdrama

it’s been a while since we got any interesting Kdrama that doesn’t have the same plot, just with different characters. This was such a beautiful and enjoyable show. it’s has the needed depth and plot. You can actually see that Cha Eun Woo is actually improving with his acting skills (people should go easy on the criticism). Park Eun-bin is an excellent actress. Choi Dae-hoon and Im Seong-jae are so funny. The romance was an extra bonus but OVERALL I LOVED IT. Great casting and the COMEDY WAS TOO GOOD.

A delightful breezy well-balanced drama full of A-level comedy, action, thriller and sci-fi

If you're in need for a fresh short format comedy to binge watch to you engaged and amused all the way through, this is the perfect recommendation.
I loved everything about this one, the story, script, characters, production, cinematography, acting and direction.
this is how you produce a short-format 8 episode drama! Keep it to the point and engaging, no moment wasted on needless side plots, while making the best use of the time for world-buildup and character backgrounds just enough to make them endearing and the story engaging. I appreciated above all that despite the story never taking itself seriously and even most of the action sequences had a strong dash of comedic elements to it, I liked how the humanitarian and emotional messages came through showing us a group of ragtags misfits who receive mainly their community's ridicule overcome their inner self-worth issues and form a strong bond.
Personally, I didn't mind the sudden tonal shifts from slapstick humor, to action, to traumatic dark scenes, to suspense scifi, it made the ride all the more crazy and bingeable . I found the romance which was not the main genre here to be cute and sweet, and the main leads conveyed a nice chemistry overall.
I loved the quirky characters, the witty dialogue, the hilarious moments, the spooky sci-fi, and above all I found all actors 'performances to have been great (even Cha Eun Woo for the most part) but shout outs go out to Park Eun Bin of course. this is one actress I will be following in the future.
Nothing has been announced, but in case there will be a sequel, I will be looking forward to it.

Good actors but unfunny dumb characters

I understand that a lot of people really enjoyed this series. It’s clear since it correctly holds an 8.5 here on MDL. But I didn’t like it at all. At the core of the problem is the fact that the main characters are extremely annoying from start to finish. They really are fools. If the story had high schoolers as the main characters, everyone would be more mature and smart. It’s a big waste of talent, since the cast is made up of good actors.
The plot looked interesting and would be a good fit with less over-the-top, unfunny silliness. From the protagonist to the side characters and the villain, all the characters annoyed me. The forced romance with no chemistry at all managed to make it even less interesting by the end.

A Flawless Production

I am honestly still speechless after finishing this. It is extremely rare to come across a production where every single element—from the writing and acting to the directing—is executed so flawlessly. The plot is incredibly gripping, with brilliant twists that keep you thoroughly engaged throughout the entire journey.
The cast delivered phenomenal, deeply layered performances that made the characters feel so alive and relatable. On top of that, the breathtaking visuals and the hauntingly beautiful soundtrack elevate the emotional weight of every single scene, turning it into a literal visual feast.
The immersion is so intense that I completely lost track of time while watching. The sheer level of detail and production value is unmatched, making it a show that demands to be rewatched.

Chaotic, Funny, and Surprisingly Heartfelt

The WONDERfools – Chaotic, Funny, and Surprisingly Heartfelt
The WONDERfools honestly feels like a mix of chaos, comedy, action, and heart all at once, and that’s exactly why I enjoyed it so much. What makes the drama stand out is how different it feels from typical superhero stories. Instead of perfect heroes, you get messy and ordinary people suddenly dealing with powers they barely understand, which makes everything both hilarious and unpredictable. The Y2K setting also adds so much charm and nostalgia to the whole vibe.
KDramaWorlds +1
The chemistry between the cast is one of the best parts for me. Park Eun-bin and Cha Eun-woo brought so much personality to their roles, and the whole group dynamic felt natural and entertaining. Even when the story gets emotional or intense, the humor and teamwork between the characters keep it fun to watch. I also loved how each character had their own flaws and emotional struggles instead of just being there for action scenes.
South China Morning Post +1
The cinematography and overall production made everything even more enjoyable. The action scenes were exciting, the visuals were colorful and energetic, and the mix of comedy with emotional moments worked surprisingly well. Beneath all the chaos and powers, the drama is really about friendship, growth, and ordinary people trying to do the right thing even when they’re scared or lost. The WONDERfools feels weird in the best way possible—funny, emotional, and full of heart.

First drama to NOT leave me with unanswered questions

Before I start, I’d like to mention that I only started this drama after seeing one of the scenes with Cha Eun-woo smoking on TikTok, however, it most certainly DID NOT disappoint.
At first, I thought it was some Korean version of Stranger Things, but now that I finished it, it’s everything Stranger Things didn’t manage to be.
Chae-ni, our lead character, is the most unhinged woman I’ve seen in a drama, in a big role. She cannot take almost anything seriously, she acts like a teen although she’s in her late (?) twenties, she has so much personality that I can’t imagine how her heart manages to keep her alive! Most interesting and entertaining (and not at all polite or dainty like most) female lead I’ve met so far!
Lee Woon-jung? Introverted, selfish (at times), traumatized, powerful, with a white tank and a cigarette in hand? God, I couldn’t keep my eyes off the screen. I won’t comment any further due to spoilers, but don’t forget the reason why I started this series!!
The guys are very funny as well, especially their dynamic with and without Chae-ni and Woon-jung. A father who’s family is basically ignoring him, a true 90’s Karen, social services’ worst enemy, whose insane stories drive people away from him, ends up hanging out with a guy who’s been bullied by his entire class during high school, whose job is to peel onions, and whose best friend is none other than the town’s crazy neighbor. What could go wrong with such a diverse friend group? To say the least, A LOT, especially due to their lack of money. The first episode reminded me a lot of The Blair Witch Project, actually.
The only thing I didn’t like about this drama was that there is a credits scene where they kinda hint we might get a season two? I don’t know what more they could do about the story though, as far as I’m concerned, most of the questions were answered and there are little to no plot holes to fill!
Overall, worth every second and every bag of chips eaten in front of the screen, especially since it had a little bit of romance sprinkled on top!!

Hilarious and fun!

I thought this series was going to be bad, maybe because Cashero which had a somewhat similar regular people suddenly get super powers plot didn't click with me at all or just the vibes the poster gave me, a little bit of both, maybe.

To be 100% honest, the main reason I watched the first episode was to see Cha Eunwoo, I thought I'd watch 1 episode to see him and then drop it, probably because of this train of thought I was a bit bored at first, but about 3/4 into the the episode it clicked, it's not only good but it is hilarious!!I laughed out loud a lot, and spent the whole 8 episodes giggling, it's just so good, not per, not excellent but still a pretty fun drama, with some great twists.

The super powers are so cool! Especially on the villains side, and the actors were so good, really the entire cast is fantastic, although I don't agree with people that say that Cha Eunwoo can't act, I do admit that he's not good, he's just OK, mostly looks I know, unfortunately that fact is highlighted by the fact that the other 3 are so damn good, but it still works somehow, where he might be lacking the others shine, and it's so funny to watch them act together.

To keep this short, Park Eunbin is a goddess, Robin on the heroes side and Huran on the Villains side were my favorites and although I am perfectly happy with this being a one season miniseries, I would gladly watch a second season if it happens.

An explosive mix that will steal your heart

I was already really excited for this drama since the cast was announced (I'm a fan of Cha Eun Woo, Park Eun Bin and Bae Nara and I can find all three of them in the same drama?!) but this series exceeded all my expectations!
From the start to the end, this drama captivated my attention and never let it go. Super funny and absurde interactions alternate with memories of deep wounds, intense action scenes and heartfluttering moments
Also, this is honestly the first series with only 8 episodes that I find complete and not rushed.
They used the time they had available in the best way possible, not only to solve the story and consolidate the bond between the main characters, but also to create amazing comic timing and a sustained pace that locks you in.
Even if the rithm is so fast, there are still beautiful poetic moments that convey not only the growth of the characters, but their vision of life, their ideals and leave us an heartwarming general sensation.
All the actors (each one of them was perfect for the role), their chemistry, the music, the photography, the screenplay, the editing, the setting and their looks made this series so enjoyable and unique.

I could try to explaind to you the special charm that this series has, but the only way to really understand it is watching it.
All of this can be described only with one word: The Wonderfools

The WONDERfools

An 8-episode action comedy with Park Eun-Bin, sign me up. I had anticipated this one for a while and knew that I was going to binge all episodes upon release. I had heard mediocre things about Cha Eun-woo and had seen clips that had painted him as not too good of an actor. After seeing him in this, he's fine; his performance is nothing groundbreaking. y I feel that some of the emotional sequences lacked the required level of emotion. But the cast here has brilliant chemistry; they carry the ok script into an excellent one. I only wish the superpowers were a little more unique; it felt a little Marvel-like.

The show hints at a second season, but I question whether there's enough substance to support one. The first season wraps up fully, so risking that completeness may be unnecessary. Despite these concerns, I strongly recommend watching this show. The acting holds up, the effects look good, and the comedy is excellent.

"Promising series completely, got butchered in the editing room"

The plot, cast, and production team clearly put a lot of effort into recreating the 1999 setting, and that was one of my favorite aspects of the series. The nostalgic atmosphere felt authentic and immersive. The cast also delivered strong performances throughout, especially the trio whose comedic timing and quirky humor were genuinely entertaining. It has been a long time since I enjoyed a drama that incorporated comedy so naturally into its storyline.

However, this series had the potential to be something truly brilliant but ultimately fell short because of its inconsistent screenplay and editing. While the director stated that Cha Eun Woo's scenes were not intentionally cut, Episodes 7 and 8 made it feel as though a significant portion of his storyline was removed. His character gradually faded into the background, almost becoming a supporting character rather than one of the leads.

As a result, the doctor storyline and several villain-related developments also felt sidelined. By Episodes 7 and 8, the drama focused heavily on the trio, and I found myself almost forgetting Cha Eun Woo's character altogether. The narrative became increasingly messy after Episode 6, and many scenes appeared rushed or disconnected, likely due to the limitation of fitting everything into only eight episodes.

At several points, it felt as though the focus shifted entirely to Mr. Son, Eun Bin, and Ro Bin, while other storylines lost their momentum. The transitions between scenes often lacked proper continuity, making the final episodes feel like I was watching a completely different series rather than a continuation of the same story.

Overall, Wonder Fools is still a one-time watch. The comedy works well, the cast is talented, and the 1999 setting is charming. However, the plot felt heavily familiar to me, combining elements that reminded me of Stranger Things and Blind. While the series had all the ingredients for greatness, the screenplay and editing prevented it from reaching its full potential.

My biggest disappointment was not the cast or the performances, but the way the story was ultimately executed.

A truly excellent drama

I started watching this drama with low expectations, and I’m glad I did! It was really good!

Firstly, I want to talk about the plot because it was truly captivating. It had everything in the right proportion — drama, comedy, action, fantasy, and romance (not too much romance, which I liked). I think it was inspired by Mengele’s medical experiments conducted at Auschwitz and other camps in Europe, or at least something similar, since the kids were called “Wunderkinder” (“wonder kids”). Just like the Nazis believed that Aryans were the pinnacle of humanity, the Wunderkinder in this drama wanted to eliminate “defective” people.

It felt very original for a K-drama, and I found the similarities with Europe’s dark history quite intimidating but also very well depicted. The plot was interesting, the funny moments were entertaining, the friendship between the four main characters was beautiful, and the family bonds were very strong as well. The drama also touches on child abuse and how children are manipulated by scientists in order to serve a purpose. They are convinced until their very last breath that they are doing the right thing and being useful to the “father” scientist.

I also liked the four different personalities of the main characters:

* Eun Chae-ni: A girl with heart failure who is on the verge of death at the beginning of the drama. She dies, but her superpowers give her a second chance at life. She no longer just wants to survive — she wants to live life to the fullest. Park Eun-bin was excellent once again!🫶🏻
* Lee Un-jong: One of the Wunderkinder who no longer wants to participate in their plans. He clearly has deep family trauma and is used to being alone. At first, he tries to find his family by using Chae-ni, but later he discovers the meaning of companionship. His character development was really impressive.
* Son Gyeong-un: A cowardly man who complains all the time. He loves his family, but he embarrasses them because he strongly believes in conspiracy theories. He just wants to live peacefully, but eventually he has to use his superpowers to save people and care more about his team.
* Kang Robin: A kind-hearted but powerless man. He is Chae-ni’s true friend and was bullied a lot at school. He sees himself as useless, but after getting his superpowers he tries to prove himself and become a hero.

The romance between Chae-ni and In-jong was not overwhelming. I think it had the perfect balance, and at times it really added meaning to the story.

All the actors did a great job, and I especially want to give credit to Cha Eun-woo. He was superb in this role! Usually, he chooses strange projects, and I wasn’t a fan of him in True Beauty like most people(actually I wasn t a fan of true beauty in general)but here he was really good — and honestly, more handsome than ever.

Excellent drama overall. I don’t know if the meanings I interpreted were the intended ones, but that’s how I received this drama. One of the best K-dramas I’ve watched!💕
