Both Nirvana in Fire and The Vendetta of An are excellent revenge and political dramas. The male leads in both dramas are highly intelligent and plan their revenge plot perfectly, utilizing other characters like a chess piece. Both dramas have the same vibe, when I'm watching one I think how similar it is to the other.

Both are revenge themed historical dramas. The whole family/clan was massacred.
The male leads are extremely smart/genious and both don't really know how to fight.

Similar feelings.
This has the vibe, smart lead. No romance, just like chess. Can't miss a sec. The characters are interesting. Here we go thru death trap together.

Both shows involve a game of wits from different factions to defeat the other. Both take place in Chang'an during the Tang Dynasty. Both involve plots to murder characters using undercover agents. Both involve many scenes among the common people.

Revenge, a lot of crying, a lot of friendships
I cried a lot for both of them. Although MC in Vendetta of An is stronger but both are intelligent people and want vengeance.
Music hits the spot the same. They both have really emotional heart wrenching music accompanying the scenes.

1. Both star emotionally restrained male leads played by actor Cheng Yi
2. The central theme is freedom versus control
3. Revenge and justice are morally complicated
Both protagonists evolve from:
“destroy the enemy”
to
“understand the system creating the conflict.”
4. Strong “lonely hero” atmosphere
5. Both feature protagonists fighting corrupt systems
6. Tragic-sacrificial heroism
Both stories lean heavily into sacrifice.
7. Romance softens hardened protagonist

One major difference:

The Vendetta of An is primarily a historical political revenge drama.
Sword and Beloved is a xianxia/wuxia fantasy romance with demons, spirits, and supernatural lore

1. Both center on men shaped by suffering and hidden identities
Both protagonists:
live double lives,
operate through deception,
and carry emotional isolation as part of their survival strategy.
2. Fate versus personal choice is central
the protagonists refuse to simply accept the roles imposed on them.
3. Romance softens hardened protagonists
Both stories use romance as:
healing,
emotional awakening,
and a challenge to the protagonist’s cold worldview.
4. Both protagonists fight systems larger than themselves
In both dramas, the heroes gradually realize:
"the system itself is broken"
5. Tragic and melancholic atmosphere
Fans drawn to tragic, emotionally restrained protagonists would probably enjoy both.
6. Strong “power couple against the world” dynamic
7. Both combine action with emotional introspection
Neither show is only about fights or plot twists.

The main difference is the setting and genre:

Drama
The Vendetta of An: Historical political revenge thriller;
Fate Chooses You: Xianxia fantasy romance with cultivation and curses;
