Known Ex-Boyfriend

This drama is what disappointment looks like. But I can't even complain, cuz it's on me... I had too high expectations. I blame myself for this one, I disappointed myself.

When I first learned about the premise of this, I was like. Oh, so Taiwan bls graduated from stepbrothers and are now going into the uncle business, sign me up. I was ready to be on my moral high ground while enjoying, and judging. Unfortunately, when the first episode aired and the intro was longer than the episode, I almost rioted.

Literally, the eff was this? It was all over the place. The plot needed time, which they didn't have, so it was rushed. And who the hell even propose like the uncle did in the finale? It felt like they ran out of budget in the location they were at, and had to leave, so the director was like, hurry up, quickly, put the ring on his finger and let's check out before we have to pay for another day.

Also, all that missed chances for them to meet and find out about each other was ridiculous. The mother even sent a picture, and you telling me after he returned to his phone he couldn't see it?? Then, it turned out the uncle knew the whole time any way? Meh.

Taiwan dramas almost never disappoint, so to see this one let me down, was unexpected. I'm not sure if it's due to the plot being whatever, or the execution, but this was not it. The story was very rushed, the secondary characters were uninteresting, and that basic arse bad guy came off whiny and childish with no depth. The main cp were there, didn't really get much from them either, and that mother was also there... really, everything about this disappointed me. Such a shame, this would have been an amazing bl if it had proper run time and the plot was well executed. Perhaps they lacked investment?

Anyway, if you wanna watch it, kudos to you, personally I won't recommend it. Hopefully the actors get a chance to work on something better in the future. One thing I liked about this though, was the theme song. Dafug you mean 'My love for you is 3 centimeters deep, not more, not less.' It made me laugh, so at least there was that.

mini series that lacks focus

Overall: this had the vibe of a vertical micro series but thankfully had the horizontal orientation and episodes that were more than a minute long. I gave it an indie rating bump. 12 short episodes. Aired on YouTube https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8QwMuXkPNuYkmlnFYDA78oV68V0crXk0&si=x-BV47wLAtZgVRiZ and PPeach app.

Content Warning: attempted drugging, drugging, dub con kiss, blackmail, non con picture taking/sharing, unwanted outing

What I Liked
- supportive friend
- the kiss
- sweet moments
- good a character didn't do something when another character was drugged though unfortunately he did something else
- in episode 11 they subverted a very common trope that I dislike
- music

Room For Improvement
- confused on the timeline and who characters were/their relationship to one another
- too many characters
- silly a character didn't explain something for so long, I'm sure he could have used social media, gone in person, etc.
- too many flashbacks, spending time on guys playing volleyball or video gaming instead of developing their relationship
- confusing release schedule, should have released all for members and then after a set time released them for free at least 1 a day for 12 days or if they had narrowed the focus of the plot/reduced characters then I wouldn't have been as confused watching 2 episodes per week
- mom did a 180 really fast
- 2 blocked kisses at the end (but despite what MDL says, this makes a little sense given the country it's actually from)

Good for a laugh

If you have nothing else to do and I really do mean, nothing else.

This showed every single thing that could go wrong in making a series. The script - bad. The actors - bad. The club - bad. The arch nemesis - bad. The mother's fainting spell and approval - hilarious. If you want to get a partner - go watch a scary movie. Proven to work, at least here.

Here's the thing: Taiwan. Not China but Taiwan put that out for everyone to see. There is low budget, no budget and what the hell were they thinking? The last category is where this fits. The premise was good. The execution was not. I actually kept watching to see the aftermath from the big reveal. Disappointing.

There was one moment that I did like: Cheng Shiao reveals his love for Shiran and the way it was handled. That about it.

Taiwanese production at it's worst...

While I have no great expectation on a short episode (4 to 8 minutes), low budget series, if you do a BL and have intimate scenes, do them right. This was more a shitshow then everything else. The story was predictable, the characters were boring, the acting was bad and they avoided kissing as much as possible. Production value was so low it was almost subterran.

There is not much to say except this was a huge disappointment.
If you have not seen it, just skip it, it's a waste of your time.

Stumbled upon this on the feed, wondering about it & watch while OG. Turn out some drama really much better when you've watched it while OG... Let's dive in, but first thing first... Story...

The story of Lu Shi Ran (SR), who reunited with his missing ex-boyfriend, Qi Yi (QY). SR broken up with QY when he's back for good to china, while SR still abroad & can't be contacted. When the story rolling we finally know the reason for this, no contact between SR & QY.

In the end, SR forgive QY for his mistake & they continue their relationship. (And since MDl already wrote it.) One day, SR discovers that QY is actually "the uncle" (no blood relation) he had never met! So how will their story move forward from this...? Will they still insist in their relationship with all that taboo or will they break apart one more time?

That's pretty much the story without giving any more spoiler. Now what I like and don't.

What I like:
+ The good chemistry between Sun Zhong Yang & Aiden Wu
+ The good short drama. This has beginning, middle & end with good pace & plot.

What I don't like:
- a little don't make sense plot. Well u need to re-watch it at least 1 more time to know this. A little hard for me to explained but after re-watch it, I feel this have quite a few lack things...

Don't know it's good or bad. But they aired it 2 ep per week for 7min short drama definitely a clever move. Cause when u just watch this in 1 seating u'll be like me, notice a lot of lack of things...

A quick watch that just leaves you feeling indifferent

The format of this series reminded me of the apps that you can put on your phone and watch these short episodes that are 1 to 2 minutes long. Not only did it remind of that with the length, but how some of those series felt meh like this one through its storyline as well as the acting.

I really did not care for any of the characters as I felt that they weren't portrayed properly by these actors for me to have any reaction to them and what they were going through.

Also, I felt that the secondary couple was not portrayed good and was handled properly. If they were, I felt that I may have liked this series a bit, but that was not the case.

Can I get another series, but with the second couple?

I feel Uncle Unknown is what you expect from a short series and a BL from China where their is censorship laws. I won’t say this is the best series that I’ve seen, but I will say that they tried to work with what they were allowed to do and what they were given. I will say that this show made me have second couple syndrome again. There may be spoilers so be aware.
The plot literally jumped right into the storyline without any warnings. It started with Shi Ran was at a bar partying with his friend group and evening trying to pull some ladies, but while he was going to leave he saw someone he thinks he might know so he stumbles and tries to catch up to him and guess what it’s his ex Qi Yi. Then they ended up in Qi Yi’s home and Shi Ran was saying that he doesn’t want to be with him anymore since he just randomly disappeared from his life and Qi Yi explained which was that he was in a comma and once he got to use his phone Shi Ran had already blocked him and he couldn’t message him anymore. Then overtime they start hanging out with each other and they both develop their feelings again for each other and they start to date, but what they didn’t know was that they were related. One day Shi Ran was going to meet his little uncle and then Qi Yi showed up out of no where and started to tease him. Then I guess the public knew that they were related since they are a wealthy family and Shi Rans friend gave picks of them together at the bar to his mom and once she found out about it she was upset and said they can’t be together and even begged them to break up, but they still didn’t want to until they said they would for the sake of Shi Ran’s mother and she believed it until she found out about them. I’m so happy that Shi Ran’s mother did accept their relationship in the end and they got engaged and are know living together.
I have second couple syndrome because I personally feel the second couple had a lot of chemistry and they were so cute together even though they weren’t technically a couple. By the way Im not a hundred percent on what their names are but they are the friends of both of the main leads. I’m not sure what Shi Ran’s friend’s name is and Qi Yi’s friends name is Cheng Xi. One scene where I literally fell in love with them was when Cheng Xi lost his necklace at the beach and Shi Ran’s friend went to help him find it and wasn’t going to stop until he found it and once he found it they hugged and they were so cute. Another scene was when they had their little movie date and Shi Ran’s friend jumped on Cheng Xi and he was comforting him and they even held hands and were shy. I also loved their last scene where Shi Ran’s friend got drunk and jealous and kept telling Cheng Xi that he can’t date anyone other than him and he was so happy to go to his home. Like I need more screen time of them. Overall, I feel I need a season two only because I want to see what the couples are gonna do now because it ended to quickly and the ending was kinda bad of how they cut it off with both couples “kissing”. I do recommend this drama, but it’s gonna be hard to watch it because the one on YouTube is now membership only.

Break the chains of the ordinary to choose those who love

Chinese actors Aiden Wu and Zhong Yang Sun play Lu Shi Ran and Qi Yi, respectively, in the romantic drama 'Uncle Unknown', the adaptation of the web novel "After Flirting, My Uncle Kept Pursuing Me" (乱撩后小叔对我穷追不舍) by Wan Xi Zi (皖西子).
The Chinese series, which tells a love story that is socially unacceptable for two reasons, revolves around two ex-boyfriends, Lu Shiran, a rich young man who was adopted by the Lu family in his childhood, and Qi Yi. While they were lovers, Qi Yi was in a coma and involuntarily stopped contacting Lu Shiran. Noticing the detachment, he breaks up with him, thinking that he no longer loved him.
In this way, once his health recovered, Qi Yi was unable to contact Lu Shiran after, not knowing how to locate him, he was blocked as a contact on the phone and social networks.
After the reunion, they begin dating again and both relive their romance, but they will soon discover that they were related, but without blood ties. The series also tells the story of a second couple, made up of the two best friends of the protagonists.
For a short drama, with an average duration of just 8 minutes each episode, low budget, a poorly developed script and mediocre performances, I loved the story, the attractiveness of the four main characters, the solidarity and ingenuity of the group of friends .
I like how the four young homosexual lovers feel free and happy to shout their love through Chinese nightclubs, streets and beaches, where between games and laughter they will kiss and love.
Despite having many characters for such a short time of plot development, the story explains well the reasons why they are all connected to each other.
Now, let's get to the heart of the matter: 'Uncle Unknown' seeks, and manages, to break two taboos, specifically the taboo when there is a relationship of kinship (although in truth there is no relationship of consanguinity in the story but of affinity), and the so-called "rainbow pride."
After learning of the relationship between the two young people, Lu Shiran's adoptive mother, based on a superficial moral compass, will oppose the romance for both one and the other type of relationship that society disapproves of or considers inappropriate.
However, both young people choose to defend their love, to let the world know that they do not work by its rules, and they manage to break the chains of ordinary to choose those they love.
