Superior

The chemistry - 🔥🔥🔥
The story/cases - great. No choppy editing. Easy to follow
The music/ost/bgm - nicely put with each scene.
I guess there is still hope for a mini drama. And this is one example where a 20min drama might be better than usual 40min drama.
Go watch it guys.. you won't regret it one bit.

Can we have a Second Season? 🥹

Fun Casts and Interesting Story

Chemistry between the cast is superb. To be honest I was hesitating to watch because I don't really like watching drama, I was a fan of Zilu from My Calorie Boy and saw a short clip of this drama. Found out his character is almost the same in MCB-- sunshine and funny guy, so I decided to give it a chance and yup I was hooked. Both main actors facial expression deserved a praise. And love the lowkey romantic bromance vibe between main actors.

Hope for a season 2 as soon as possible!

Setting the standard for mid-length drama series

Tldr;
Very much worth a watch. Stronger storytelling than most big-name big budget full-length C-dramas being released in summer 2026

Pros:
- Clear plot. Backgrounds and motivations of each main character were well established. Each case had a logical antagonist and rounded resolution
- Good pacing and editing. The directing/writing/editing team clearly thought out what they wanted each episode to tell
- Good chemistry and dynamic between the main characters. From some of the comments it sounds like this was positioned to be slightly BL? Maybe it was edited out, but regardless I enjoyed the bromance. It felt natural and earned
- Nuanced, insofar as C-dramas can be when it comes to content set in this era. In this drama, they do honor historic facts (aggressive and harmful imperialism by foreign countries against China in the Republic Era) without falling into the trap of making every foreign character a goofy caricature, and avoiding the almost propaganda-y tone that turns many international audiences away

Cons - mostly because of the last arc:
- Rushed ending with the Big Bad - I had to dock off points, but not too much, since this is a problem that is endemic to most C-dramas
- I do find the main actors very charming but Kido Ma fell kinda fall flat with the emotional scenes in the last arc (more sad for me since his looks are very much my type)

Bromance of The Year - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I really really really need Season 2 so badly. The ending is the beginning of the end! It's killing me softly not knowing what happen to the Yuan Hong! 😭
The bromance scenes are top kisses. The eyes lingering and glaring, the small touches and cares. It gave me the Killer and Healer vibe, BL without kisses. I just figured out that the lady director of the drama was a former director of Revenged Loved BL drama. 🥰

It's Surprisingly Good

For 20 minutes each day, you get entertained with a nice storyline. This series could have been made into the regular 45-minute drama to make each episode even more suspenseful. The actors' acting are just right, and they seem to have good chemistry together. Hope the next episodes won't ruin the momentum and deliver a happy ending please.

Sucks you in

Cases Between Us is a Republican-era detective drama features a fast-paced, case-of-the-week format tackling political intrigue and social issues.

The show is driven by exceptional "C-bromance" chemistry and witty banter between the two male leads.

It delivers a realistic, atmospheric depiction of old Beijing, avoiding overly polished filters despite its short-episodes.

I highly recommend it as an addictive, smartly written mystery that far exceeds expectations.

Firecracker flirting with still waters: a bromance

This was a casual but enjoyable summer watch for me. I'm a sucker for minguo visuals and was looking for a more lighthearted drama, and this one delivered. This is a classic story of a policeman and ‘special consultant’ developing a close relationship as they solve cases together all over Beijing. Yuan Hong is an illegitimate son of a warlord who joins the police to uncover the truth about his mother’s death. Zhao Shaoshang is a spoiled baby of the family of an ultra-rich cabinet minister in need of a friend and some growing up. Together they work hard to piss off everyone in the city who’s got something shady going on, which is …everyone;)

Some cases were more interesting than others, but at least they were varied and the investigations progressed in a believable way (not counting some interrogation scenes that were pure comedy skits;)). They have a common theme of appearing supernatural at first glance but turning out to conceal thoroughly human motives. The spooky parts of the cases were fun, I think they could’ve leaned even more into it. The cast was great! There were some really colourful and entertaining secondary characters.

The drama has a lot of lighthearted situational humour, which I really liked. I normally hate comedy sound effects, but the instrumental ‘laughter’ here was kind of infectious:) The main characters' interactions were very entertaining as they got to know each other and used that knowledge for teasing and jokes. Their friendship has depth and develops in a natural way helped along by great chemistry between the two actors. As you can guess from the title, this is an intentional bromance sparing no effort to let the audience happily ship the two together;)

As for the main characters, tbh, I had no chance of liking Zhao Shaoshang because (1) I’m allergic to screaming and his tantrums were driving me crazy, (2) I find this type of smart-ass characters annoying, especially when it’s paired with rich family privilege, (3) it took me a while to get used to Zhai Zilu’s acting, which seemed too exaggerated compared to the rest of the cast. He absolutely did grow on me as some depth and vulnerability materialized, and a lot of his earlier bluster turned out to be just a shield. I do appreciate that the drama didn't hesitate to expose his flaws. Ironically, I found his absolute pettiness and inability to keep his cool even under the tiniest of provocations quite endearing:D …if only he weren’t abusing my eardrums.

Yuan Hong had an interesting air of mystery and capability at the beginning, but the actor lacked charisma and presence to really pull it off. For the rest of the drama, he’s mostly a tolerant ‘still waters run deep’ type but rather one-note in emotional moments. If Zhai Zilu is a bit ‘too much’, then Ma Sichao is 'too little’, but they balance each other surprisingly well.

I hope season 2 comes next summer and keeps the same level of writing and production. The last few episodes switched to a more dramatic tone, so I hope the story goes back to the lighthearted and bromantic mood because that’s where it shines☀️✨

proof that perfect pacing and insane chemistry can fix your drama slump!!

Honestly going into a 36 episode drama where i usually stick to short form series is a huge commitment but cases between us actually delivered it if you are on fence about the episode count then it is worth the binge..
The narrative pacing carries the entire show it never drags to the point where you want to drop it nor is it so fast that you feel confused you know that perfect spot where every episodes keep you hooked .. talking about the dynamic between the leads is insane what makes the writing stand out is how balanced the screen time is while the main leads do have their own time ..the side characters also get the genuine depth and realistic arcs instead of just you know existing as in the background..
Also the variety the different cases kept the show going and the way the overall plot links everything together is super satisfying even though I felt a tiny plot holes but the show surprisingly addresses and clears it in the later episodes.. the cast is amazing .. esp zhaoshang being an absolute highlight
Overall it's just actual comedy emotions and realistic elements... really hoping for s2

i give it 9.5 points only because it ended CRIES

First of all the actors, oh my god they were all so amazing the characters they all became my family.
The story, both the big picture and the cases were amazing i cried in most of them.
Directing, I loved it especially. they did amazing with the short episodes it was so enjoyable to watch, it was so easy and the atmosphere, the outfits, all were beatiful.
Music, this is how you know this is not just a bromance but they LOVE each other the amount of soft cozy bgms in this i love it so much.
Overall, it was just like a cozy night breeze of a series. I enjoyed every moment of it. I WANT MORE OF IT.

P.S FOR THE FINALE
It is an open ending but it's personally not a problem for me, it was still an amazing ride and I for sure rewatch it. again.
SO YES the final arc was rushed, it has an open ending, it only proves that they have so much to tell and i can only hope that they can have the resources for it. I would watch ten seasons of this.

CRAZY CHEMISTRY!!! ??

The chemistry was so intense they didn’t even have to convince of whatever was going on between them!

Marshall: oh you’re quite handsome. now it makes sense why my son is obsessed with you
Yuan (the son): everyone I’ve ever cared about is gone bc of you

I have to admit I started watching this bc the cases seemed interesting but once I got a whiff of (b)romance.. naturally I had to stay. and all in ep1 was crazy.
I was having fun and giggling for 30+ episodes until the breakup… then it was tears and heartache… at least I got to ‘hehe’ as it ended

S2 when?

The only downside is that it’s ending; otherwise, it’s entirely worth watching. The chemistry between the actors is outstanding. The episodes would be even better if they were 45 minutes long instead of the current 18 or 19 minutes, as many scenes feel rushed due to their short length. Additionally, the series concludes with a cliffhanger.
