Old time sexism on steroids aka PRINCESS FANTASY FOR LITTLE GIRLS AKA A GREAT BUSINESS SWINDLE

I was wondering - has Netflix really made something along the lines of a real kdrama... ??? Where was the catch... ? And sure enough LOL this is a smelly pile of script..

So the first part is mostly about virtual dating, where the princess girl gets a big house, lots of dresses, shoes, jewelry, and any guy she wants - and she wants pretty guys :) with nice bodies :) That's THE ONLY criteria :)
The FL actress is acting so well, she is confident enthusiastic hot girl going on dates with several virtual guys and having fun... FL is rather selfish and immature... but at least NATURAL... and ML actor is on screen just a tiny bit as her colleague in her real life.

THEN THE SECOND PART IS DATING IN REAL LIFE - and this lovely young lady goes into the 1950s mode of trash kdrama sexism - she is prudish, child-like clutz woman-child. OMG!!!! in year 2026!!!!! we see a grown, professional woman behave like a little school girl with boys.... Not even kids behave like that today... !!!!! And... she sticks with her virtual boyfriend too :)

AND THE DRAMA TAKES A NOSE DIVE AND BECOMES SUPER BORING **** C R I N G E **** Basically you get the Practical Guide to Love, FL and ML....

THIS SCRIPT IS TRASH!!!! and consequently, the acting of FL goes down the drain and for the second half of the drama, she is a mentally disabled dumbo and a very weak immature loser.. chick... A WOMAN-CHILD ... using men

INCREDIBLE!!! this is a real ... jester job... ENTIRE DRAMA IS ABOUT SHOPPING FOR PRETTY BOY TOYS AND GETTING A GREAT SERVICE
it is like ... going on dates with a bunch of escorts... who are all dying to take care of FL...

THIS IS TRULY ... A CON JOB.... and a very successful one, women are paying to see many men without a shirt on, and seducing, and kissing as# and doing whatever the woman says, and the woman can be as awful as she wants... or, to be more precise, as she IS.

WOW THIS IS CONSUMERISM TAKEN TO A NEW LEVEL... SHOPPING FOR A PRETTY BOY TOY!!!! and it is all planned!!!!! bc sooo many dramas have one chick trying zillion guys, or dating 2 at a time.... wooow...

So this is like female Epstein files, allowing women to do what men have always done and women complained about. Instead of becoming better people who are equal, this drama is along the lines of becoming equal in being murky selfish people and using each other.

The first part is the satire of all the tropes that kdramas use to grab female audience. It is such a great ridicule, a great jester comedy!!!! The most fun and most sad part is that so many women will not realize that they are being made fun of, and they will be too busy admiring all the good looking guys... And the whole point is to show how immature women fall for those tropes.

I am sorry to male actors, their roles were so ridiculously simple and actually - demeaning - they had to act out some delulu immature chicks fantasy. Well - just like they do in real dramas :) too often.... I realized - the male roles are to be an ESCORT ....

I am glad I saw Undercover High School ML, he was so fun in that drama... This role was waaaay too simple for him in this drama.... he was like a robot escort... ... ML actor is also wasted, he is such a great actor and this role is super simple and dumb...

Then the 2nd part starts and ... gosh this is the classic old time sexist kdrama... AGAIN!!! where FL is this clutz immature weak woman-child... WHO WANTS HER AS@ KISSED AND GUYS WHO ARE ALWAYS THERE FOR HER... like robots .... And... her behavior with ML is just... CRINGE childish... she is portrayed as a total moron for personal life , sooo immature and weak... and such a consumer, eating up guys who dote on her... AND YET ANOTHER IDOL WORSHIPER OF PRETTY FACES ... gosh... such a dumb chick ...
So again, the drama makes fun of such women-children and again lures them in with a "pretty face guy"

AND ML CHARACTER PLAYS INTO THIS TROPE OF LOYAL DOTING GUY, he liked her for so long and didnt pick anyone else - although she never deserved his liking her. So that is the old sexist kdrama trope - this fully dedicated man although the woman is super flawed, stupid, childish, and very crude to him and in general... in general, just a dumb immature snowflake... .

So right now I am starting ep 6 and I SO BADLY WANT TO SEE REVIEW BY OPPA_ if that person wrote a review on this...
Bc I am suspecting there is a catch with this drama...

I like that FL actress is a great actress. IN THE FIRST PART ONLY. After ep 5 or 6, when the real guy steps in, the FL actress is clearly acting fake bc the script is trash cringe. She is having difficulty acting the immature cringe..... BC IT IS NOT A NATURAL BEHAVIOR to behave like an elementary school girl. YET THAT IS WHAT KIDRAMAS EXPECT. this is the classic classic kdrama sexism... !!!!! What FL did here, is EXACTLY how all those FLs behave ... Practical Guide to Love is an example of that ..... woooow....

That FL chick is totally undeserving of ML's attention, she always treated him badly, then he confessed and she avoids him and rejects him, non stop and he keeps coming back.. .... AND SHE IS AFRAID TO LOVE BC IT WILL END, SO SHE KEEPS REJECTING HIM AND DUMPING HIM.... ... omg what a loser coward ... and he keeps coming back ...... omg what a loser coward.

I really like that actors are not super skinny skeletons :) FL got nice legs :) ML also looks like a normal athletic guy. So at least the drama has a healthy look. I really like that ML has naror and slanted eyes, not plastic surgery big eyes.

I dislike that such a great actor like the ML actor is put into this overly simple role. But then... I realize... all typical male roles ARE this... omg... this is like seeing the whole mechanics of dramas... This is like seeing the swindling behind the scenes...

Wow who was it who thought of selling this idea of reverse polygamy and/or decadent lewd behaviors by women - basically everything rotten that men used to do? Great busines mind. So many - most? - new kdramas are based on such women.

Romcom is back

The drama is it an easy watch, no heavy plots, twists, fillers, love triangles and it is not your typical enemies to lovers. Stars with quirky fantasy comedy, which wasn’t my thing but after episode 5, it blooms to a more human kind of drama, dealing with loneliness, fears, etc. You will find yourself laughing, crying and even screaming. SeoInGuk does more than an excellent job playing his character. The tone of his voice, his calmness, facial expressions, and the way he carries himself as a shy quiet guy is adorable and on point. . The chemistry with Jisoo is amazing. Exactly as the director said, SeoInGuk had to be the male lead, and i totally see why. SeoInGuk said jisoo was perfect for the character and she made it more lovely than the script, i can definitely see how this character really suits her. I really enjoyed it, as it’s one of those dramas that you can watch over and over again.

UNNECESSARY HATE REVIEWS SEEM TO BE COMING FROM ANTIS

I I just finished watching it it's a romantic comedy so it's meant to be cringe and it is different from a western movie it is a k-drama and if you're familiar with cute drama you're familiar with how they use like cringe things sometimes and it's perfectly okay and the actors executed it perfectly I absolutely loved the male lead and the female lead and they had great chemistry together however there seems to be a lot of hate e on reviews and on Twitter and most of the people who are leaving this hate reviews did not watch the series or absolutely hate blackpink or Jisoo do not be deceived it is better to watch on your own and have your own review but overall this was a great show was a crazy fun drama as a drama you watch when you need something to do at home and you just want something that's light and not heavy.

Literally the best

Jisoo’s acting in this drama was seriously impressive. I’ve seen her in some of her other dramas before and she was good in those as well, but I feel like a lot of it depends on the script and the kind of character she’s given. In this series, everything just seemed to work perfectly for her. The writing allowed her to show more range, and you can really see how much more comfortable and natural she’s become in front of the camera.

I actually ended up watching the entire series in one sitting because it was that engaging. Once I started, I genuinely couldn’t stop. The pacing of the show and the way the story unfolded kept me hooked the whole time. Her performance played a big role in that too because she made her character feel believable and authentic. Nothing about her acting felt forced or overdone.

One thing that stood out to me was the chemistry she had with every single male actor she interacted with in the show. Sometimes in dramas the chemistry only works with one specific character, but here it felt effortless across the board. Each interaction felt natural and convincing, which made the relationships in the story even more enjoyable to watch.

I also feel like people are trying way too hard to hate on Jisoo simply because they already know her as the singer from Blackpink. A lot of the criticism feels extremely forced. I’m honestly convinced that half of the people making these judgments haven’t even watched the show properly, or maybe haven’t watched it at all. It’s easy to dismiss someone when you already have a fixed image of them, but if you actually watch the drama with an open mind, her performance is genuinely solid. The storyline itself is also really unique and refreshing, which makes the whole series even more worth watching.

Some dramas fail because they are poorly made. Boyfriend on Demand fails for the opposite reason—it is overworked, like a painting that received one brushstroke too many. On paper, everything is there: a timely premise about AI dating, modern loneliness, and the ghosts of past relationships that keep people from moving on; a cast filled with some of the Korean industry’s most beloved rom-com actors; and glossy, high-end cinematography that makes every frame look expensive.

Yet the center of the story never comes alive. An enemies-to-lovers setup only works when sparks fly, but here the female lead doesn’t spar with the male lead—she seems openly annoyed by him, sometimes bordering on bored. The male lead, played by an actor I normally enjoy, feels strangely absent. The cascade of handsome virtual boyfriends briefly recalls 7 First Kisses, but without its innocence or romantic charm; it feels more like hoarding beautiful faces than telling a love story. With so many cameos, even the eye candy loses its impact. Romance dramas live or die by whether the audience can invest their heart in the main couple—and here, despite all the polish, that never quite happens.

Best recent romcom drama for me!!

I finished watching the entire series in just one sitting, which already says a lot about how engaging it was. This is actually my first time writing a full review for any of Jisoo’s dramas. When this project was first announced, I was already very excited for it to come out, and after watching it, I can confidently say that it exceeded my expectations.

This series screams rom-com to its core. It fully embraces the genre and gives exactly what a romantic comedy should offer—heart, humor, and emotional moments—while still delivering something deeper. Throughout the series, you find yourself rooting for Mirae to finally open her heart again and allow herself to love and be happy.

The first few episodes were mainly dedicated to introducing the virtual boyfriends in the VR system. One thing I really loved was how Mirae had great chemistry with all of them. The concept of the virtual reality boyfriends was not only entertaining but also meaningful to Mirae’s character development.

Eunho, in particular, became my second favorite virtual boyfriend. He was essentially a replica of Mirae’s ex, but without the flaws that once hurt her. Through Eunho, Mirae was able to reflect on her past relationship and finally gain a sense of closure. He reminded her that what she had with her ex was once beautiful and genuine. Their relationship may have ended because of changes they could not accept, but that does not erase the fact that what they had was real and meaningful.

Mirae’s character perfectly represents someone who has developed a fear of change. She sees change as something negative and constantly worries that the happiness she has in the present will eventually disappear. Eunho helped her remember that even when things change, the past can still remain as a beautiful memory. Although Eunho did not completely solve her fear of change, he helped her finally let go of the emotional weight of her previous relationship. Some viewers might feel that Mirae should have had a final conversation with her ex for closure, but personally, I think the way the story handled it was already perfect. Mirae eventually realized that her struggle was not really with her ex—it was within herself.

Then there is Yeong-il, who plays an important role in helping Mirae realize her true feelings for Gyeongnam. Yeong-il represents the “perfect” virtual boyfriend, and I appreciated how the writers stayed faithful to the rom-com genre by making the virtual boyfriends likable and emotionally engaging. I’m also glad that the series did not turn them into villains, because the story could have easily gone in that direction.

At the same time, the Boyfriend on Demand app and device felt somewhat unsettling. It is scary in a way because it feeds people’s emotions with something artificial, yet it still leaves them wanting more. What I appreciated about the story is that it stayed grounded in reality. The technology was presented as just a tool—something that people should control, not something that should control them.

Mirae and Gyeongnam’s love story was truly beautiful. Their relationship follows the classic enemies-to-lovers trope, but it was executed very well. Both characters were written as imperfect yet relatable, which made their development feel natural and believable.

Gyeongnam is easily one of the best male leads I have seen in recent K-dramas, and Mirae is just as compelling as a female lead. This drama gave viewers characters that feel refreshing and sincere. In recent years, many K-dramas have been difficult to stay invested in, but this series managed to deliver a story that felt complete and satisfying.

From the story itself to the pacing, the OST, and the cinematography, everything worked together beautifully. And honestly, this drama proves that you can trust Jisoo when it comes to choosing her scripts.

Overall, Boyfriend on Demand delivered even better than expected. Those who refuse to watch it simply because of the actors involved are truly missing out on a fun, heartfelt story and the artistry that the series offers.

My Own Kdrama On Demand

If you’re going to watch, then be patient! It will reward you.

Though perhaps I may be a little biased as I honestly think this kdrama was made for me. However it’s still rare I give shows a 10/10, since that requires good quality production as well as a bit of personal interest.

First off the budget for this show must have been high because there are so many familiar faces one after the other. This aspect made it exciting as I kept expecting to see well known actors in fun and quirky roles as “boyfriends”. (Not to mention the female lead comes from one of the most well-known girl groups, Jisoo from blackpink)

When I first started watching I was a little upset that the male lead had so little screen time with the female lead except to set up their somewhat enemies to lovers esque romance, but as I kept watching I continuously got hooked on the plot and was rewarded with a sweet romance that, though blossomed late in the show, made up for it in chemistry.

I think the confession was my favorite I’ve ever heard. It offered truths about reality and love and dating while still giving you the kdrama mushy goodness. My heart was beating so fast it was almost as if I was the one getting confessed too.

A great, great script from a writing perspective as well. Nothing was too on the nose, they did a lot of showing rather than telling, and this was all enhanced by the acting. I appreciated how each of the characters yearned for the other, whether they were aware of their feelings or not. There were moments of hurt yet moments that made your heart flutter. There was fear yet reassurance. And just like real life romance in a way, they fell slowly for the other until they both were too far in to turn back. The script didn’t try too hard to be philosophical but the premise of the show ended up giving it that poetic feeling. We often turn to dating simulators and fantasy worlds (like kdramas haha) to escape the realities of love that we fear. The show mirrored this and offered comfort to the characters and to the audience by helping the female lead overcome her hesitation and starting again, without fearing how it might end. It was cathartic. I will always root for a show that leaves me feeling better after watching it — that reminds me of the joy and beauty of our world and love. Rather than an escape, though it may have started that way, the show became a learning experience. I, too, want to go forward living in the moment, not being afraid that something will change, but cherishing the love that’s in front of me.

The show was also beautiful visually. Lively sunsets paired with magical snow that pulls you in to both the fantasy world of the show and also the fantasy world of the “Boyfriend on Demand” simulator. The OST wasn’t notably life-changing but it complimented the story well and I added the songs to my playlist as they grew on me.

Honestly 10/10 for the fact that this is the first kdrama in a while that has given me such butterflies. (Or maybe that was just Seo InGuk 😉)

Seriously, what a great concept, not too overboard, and just right. If there was a simulator that could take my perfect match for kdramas and create a show, I think it would come out a little something like this one.
