Situationship MAX

If you're a kpop fanboy who is also queer/LGBTQ and likes fashion this series is definitely for you. Queer representation is sooo important to me, as a guy that is often seen as 'too feminine' this whole series I word for word my comfort. I'm a hugeee fan of Proxie and BTS and other groups. Kpop is already seen in general as a 'feminine interest' but seeing guys like it in series really makes me cry bro, I'm not even joking. Like I said in the title; A series where I'm definitely DIYing/inspiring the clothes from.

Don't get me started on the music in this series. Not only is the OST SUPER PEAK the other songs they used in the series like Hype boy, Spring day are also VERYYYY good. Genuinely jumped when they mentioned BTS and spring day and as an army I love how they added the joke about RM not being able to drive and not having a license (he got one this year!). I fucking love how they also mentioned Proxie a lot as a Proxie fan. Intro I would NOT skip, because the song and colours are sooo good. Not surprised since Thai people are very proud of Lisa from Blackpink but Blackpink is also mentioned!!! Love how the normal version of เลิกกั๊กแล้วรักก่อน is used with some feelings in episode 3. To break it down there's also a sped version.

I fucking love how they're fanboys and have like pins and photo card holders of their faves and Bua and Baabin got their situationship due to them fanboying over Blackpink. I also love how they finally don't whitewash any characters since I see that a lot in Thai series. I recently saw Est supha in naughty babe and his skin was LIT so much different than in his latest roles. No hate to him btw!

About the whole gel boy thing, I love their nails sooo much. I'm not sure if any of ya'll noticed but background characters are wearing makeup. I think representation is sooo good when it comes to this series. I hate how I'm often perceived as a girl but I'm genuinely thinking of getting my nails done inspired by theirs. Love how their nails become a trend in the friend group and how everyone is slowly getting more comfortable with themselves (to a certain point).

About the characters itself, FUCK AND I MEAN FUCK Chian. Chian is like soo problematic. TF u mean you're hitting on someone else purely to make Bua jealous and to get over him? This is sooo unfair for Fou4mod. To be honest I've seen people also calling Fou4mod problematic but to be very honest I'm not sure what to think of him. Yes, he is a cause of a relationship but I also get him. I saw someone on reddit calling him 'unintentionally problematic'. Because he caused sooo much pain for Baabin. Baabin is such a sweetheart and I wished him the best but Bua and Fou4mod still KINDA treated him like trash. Look, Bua was crushing on Chian back while Chian was trying to get over him. They KEPT ignoring Baabin bro he deserves soooo much better.

Something that made me laugh was covid in begin 2025? I'm not sure when it was filmed but It's actually quite nice to see them making people aware that covid still exists. And then they try to clear it up in a call?? LMAOOO

Alsooo while watching the last ep I accidentally punched myself a swollen eye. ITS SO FUNNY HELP BUT ITS SO SWOLLEN AND A PINK EYE NOW ASWELL. Also love how Leon Zech is literately me. Like I'm also like 1/4 of many countries AND German!!

My honest thoughts on GELBOY'S the series!!

Highlights:

✔ Chemistry between the leads – The romantic development feels natural and is filled with sweet moments.
✔ Humor and lightheartedness – The series has many funny scenes that create a relaxed atmosphere.
✔ Visual aesthetics – Beautiful cinematography and appealing settings enhance the overall experience.
✔ Soundtrack – The music perfectly complements the mood and enhances emotional scenes.
✔ Strong start – The first half of the series is engaging and well-paced.

Strengths & Weaknesses:

At the beginning, I was really invested in the story, but around episode six, something changed. I started feeling more annoyed because the timeline was never really clear. Sometimes only a couple of days passed, and then out of nowhere, it had been weeks, and at some point, even months. It was very hard to keep track of where we were in the story. I wish they had added some timeline stamps to make it easier to follow along.

While I enjoyed the first few episodes, the later part of the series became pure chaos, with too much drama unfolding all at once. From one scene to the next, suddenly one character liked this person, and then out of nowhere, they liked someone else—it was too much. The pacing felt rushed, and some plot points could have been developed more smoothly.

That being said, GelBoys is still a really well-made show, and I do recommend watching it. It is definitely worth it, but I wish the ending had felt less rushed and more satisfying. A bit more time to wrap up the storylines would have made a big difference.

Characters & Acting:

I was pleasantly surprised by the series—I really liked the acting; it was so good! The lead actors deliver convincing performances. The main leads portray their roles authentically and have great chemistry. The supporting characters also add vibrancy to the story and provide entertaining moments.

Verdict:

GelBoys is an entertaining BL series with a well-balanced mix of romance, comedy, and drama. If you're looking for a series with lovable characters and a heartwarming story, this one is definitely worth watching!

Boi are you Gelly?

Wow this was MESSY. We've got the core 4 friends in this and the teen angst is strong with this one. It reminded me so much of 'Gameboys' and 'ITSAY' (which duh makes sense same director of ITSAY) in how it puts more emphasis on the cinematography and editing/use of colour. Seriously the editing style in this was awesome, one of the best I've seen in queer Thai media. The Y2K styling too in the outfits, nails, etc made me so happy. The gel manicures from these boys were giving me LIFE!
I’m also glad all these “high schoolers” are played by mid to late 20year olds lol. Because when they were making out I was like uhhhhhhhh...oh yeah! These are actually adults!

So with the plot. I think the aesthetics of the show out shadows the plot quite a bit, it can get kind of slow and cumbersome but nothing that held me back from wanting to see more. Like in ITSAY, these are meant to be teens so take some of the antics with that in mind. You're going to be stupid as a teen, and possibly hurt others feelings in the process! But each character is a good person at their core and ultimately figuring themselves out. So Chian stringing along Mod for a hot minute was pretty much the same thing Bua was doing, just in a different font! Same with what Fou was doing to Baabin. You like who you like romantically and it can be heartbreaking. I wanted to hug each of them so badly when they cried! But its part of life and you navigate.

Super excited for a season 2!

not for you if you can't see things for what they truly are

shot entirely on an iPhone, the visual storytelling is outstanding. what particularly intrigued me was the  use of long takes and prolonged silences which isn’t just stylistic, it’s emotionally resonant. these lingering moments, compelled me to sit in the discomfort and watch the characters’ inner emotional shifts unfold in real time. absolutely captivating.
Set against the vibrant Siam Square and graffiti-laced alleys, the show thrives in spaces that scream youth, rebellion, and unfiltered self-expression. And that makes me wonder that these settings aren’t just aesthetic choices, they reflect the internal landscapes of the characters, the rawness of adolescence and the turbulence of finding oneself.
ITSAY was lovely but i daresay this might just be kuno’s finest work yet.

Great Direction, Frustrating Characters

What a messy story. I’m honestly glad I didn’t watch this while it was airing. We have:

1. A desperate, hopeless romantic who is also a complete idiot: Fou4Mod
2. A straight-up asshole: Chian
3. A genius, caring, and sincere friend: Baabin (the only character I truly liked in the entire series)
4. An egocentric narcissist: Bua

I watched this mainly because of Director Boss Kuno, since I Told Sunset About You is one of my favorite shows. But I guess I’m just too old for this kind of story. Even though I usually enjoy coming-of-age narratives, this one was more frustrating than moving.

That said, the direction is spectacular. Boss Kuno did an excellent job visually and technically. In my opinion, this show does not need a season 2. It should end exactly where it is.

I’d really like to see Boss Kuno direct a more mature BL series next, something focused on working adults. Fou4Mod’s character reminded me a lot of Teh (Billkin) in ITSAY, so I guess he has a thing for portraying this type of painfully pathetic character.

I’d give Gelboys an 8.5/10, mostly because of the cinematography.

Worth giving a try

You'll like this drama and relate with it on personal level if you are a college/highschool student with a fucked up and messy love life (which everyone has had at some point atleast). I loved how they integrated the impact of instagram, tiktok and spotify on the lives of the characters cuz its infact true that this shit impacts a lot of us. If you have watched ITSAY and IPYTM, then you can easily tell that they are directed by the same person (the use of different versions of ost's, the crying scenes, complex relationships, characters who need therapy, mixed emotions and the relatableness ofc).

About fou4mod's character it feels like everything in this bl is collateral damage created by him and the funny part is he did all this unintentionally lol. okay i get him, we all have been there, in his shoes, and we may or may not have acted like him so its ok but what he should've done was learn from mistakes, like not go back to chian again even if he begged to him like his life depends on it (that's how you should do it!!!).

About chian (sighs deeply) i tried to understand him and i could but only to some extent so i wont say much 🙄

Bua and baabin were really the victims, i like how they got together at the end, they can truly fix each other ( i hope) and i dont think chian and fou4mod's relationship gonna last until and unless they get some help!

you can watch this drama if you want to relate to your life (make it a bit extra messier version), it might get hard to watch at some point but the ending is okayish (i truly wanted none of them to end together and find their happiness with some body else and move on from this incestuous-love squarish-friendship)

What i liked about the drama:
- the vibe and aesthetics (those were 10/10 for me, very new and fresh)
- the ost (also 10/10 one of the reasons why i watched this drama lol)
- i liked how they used different versions of red flag (the ost) to depict different emotions, it shows the depth of the scenes and gives it more value so ye
- the acting (the actors did a great job and some scenes very really top notch)
- relatable (lol)
- those pretty pretty nails ( it makes me wanna get my nails done aswelllll)

What i didnt like:
- the drama really felt flat in midway and it was hard to keep watching at some points
-they could've handled it better (but they are teenagers so its okay)
-no real growth (all the characters had their messy conclusion which seems like wont last for long and they'll get tangled in some mess like this sooner than we think)
-teenagers self destructing again and again (like fr)
- ending was lowkey rushed, they could've balanced the episode more nicely

It gets a 8.5/10 from me

Sorry for the long reviewwww!!! 😅

Almost a documentary about Bangkok youth

PLOT: The daily lives, friendships, hobbies, and romances of (ordinary) Bangkok high school students, following the journey of Fou4mod (a high school student, musician, who has a crush on Chian, a high school student who loves nail art, and Bua, a TikToker).

+++ The actors are very young, but talented.

*** The unique aspect of this series is its very contemporary style. The pace is intense, the settings are mainly the streets of Bangkok and the Siam Square, and we spend a lot of time on the subway, the BTS, and in tuk-tuks. The passersby are "normal," looking more at their smartphones than at their neighbors, etc. The houses are incredibly cluttered, even messy, like real homes!

*** The story focuses on youth, teenagers, first loves, intensive smartphone use (shopping, social media, videos & posts, playlists, ChatGPT, etc.), the importance of appearance, youth's trial and error, and sometimes, experiences more or less difficult to navigate.

+++ The OSTs are fantastic.

=> An unusual, refreshing, and relevant series.
**************************************************

+++ Les OSTs sont géniales.

=> Une série inhabituelle, rafraichissante, actuelle.

I'm pleasantly surprised and now I need to get my naild done lol

Wha...?! I actually ate this up lol nothing mindblowing but that was so much better than I expected. In all categories! Acting, characters, script, visuals and all. These kids are messy alright lmao but I was just so entertained. The way it was shot was definitely indie vibes, but it didn't feel "in your face," it just looks really good to me. The shots from the scenes when they're outside are my favorites. I'm not from Thailand but from a southeast asian neighbor lol a lot of it feels ~familiar~ I guess because it seemed like they didn't staged these external locations. Obviously, the show had a vision with the aesthetics of it all, the kids' rooms, outfits, their bags are just sticker galore which I loved. The use of technology and social media to tell the story was fun too even though it also made me feel really old.m, the tiktoks and all. Boy, were these kids recording and filming everything lmao makes me feel like I don't have a phone addiction. The kids just simply like getting their nails done aspect of it all is so refreshing and fun too. The nails are so cute too, I mean I don't know how they function with that but love!! 😂

Anyway, these characters! Messy messy messy but also, I was just rooting for them lmao I feel like if you're gonna do a love square like this, it has to have compelling actors, characters and script and I don't know why, but I just bought it for the most part. It's funny to me how at the end of all that, Fourmod had the least cleaning up to do because my guy was just down bad with one person lol. The theme of "leading someone on (intentional or unintentional)" being one of the driving force of the story was frustrating to me at first but it made it more compelling as well. See, all these four had problems with communicating and expressing their emotions, they're young and immature, right? But let's be real, being vulnerable and confessing your feelings is hard even in adulthood, all the awkwardness and embarrassment and fear are there and I think the way they captured that here is why this worked for me. Let me tell you I feel all these four's heartbreak. Whenever anyone of them hears something that hurts them and they pretend they're fine?? The acting shines! I really felt for all of them whenever they're trying not to cry and the way these scenes were shot everytime, I'm just impressed. I gotta say, the actor playing Fourmod, New, got me choked up multiple times. I feel like a 16 year old getting broken up by her first love lmao pls but he's just really good at emotional scenes.

I was sure at one point, it's either no one ends up with one another OR it's a Baabin/Fourmod endgame. Honestly, I was rooting for them because I just personally liked that trope with Baabin, ya know. That friend who has always been there, it's "your loml is in front of you all along, idiot" vibes. But in the end, this ending isn't crazy to me either, I'm not mad about it. Maybe the Baabin/Bua needs more to convince me that they actually fell for each other but, it's fine. I really thought they'd just be Blinks bffs that would also make fun of the other two lol. But Bua's individual journey and growth has been my favorite. Also, was shocked that this whole story spans two years which I didn't realize til it was said? I love that so much. I think all of them did grow in the end.

I guess something I didn't like was the Faifa little storyline there but then again, I wouldn't get that scene of Fourmod posting that picture knowing Faifa would hate it. I love that scene because it showed again how terrible they are at communicating. He'd rather do that than just broke up with her. I mean that's so immature and wrong but that shit happens in real life.

Yeah, I just really enjoyed this lol

a rollercoaster of emotions

as much as this made me angry it also made me happy.

i liked that at the end they finally TALKED and COMMUNICATED their feelings and worries. they understood each other and grew up as people. i'm honestly very excited about season 2 i hope things won't take a bad turn and they will keep talking to each other

things were so easy when they finally decided to talk, to let each other know how they truly felt

Frustrating Choices but a Perfect Ending

As a vital part of the interconnected Fourever You franchise, Gelboys delivers an incredibly addictive, high-energy, and emotional youth romance that keeps you glued to the screen. Following the complex social and romantic lives of its main characters, the drama easily earns a strong 8.5/10 for its fantastic character chemistry and vibrant storytelling. However, while the show is an absolute blast to watch, it is also a massive test of patience, featuring a love triangle dynamic that will make you want to scream at your screen out of pure frustrationThe most infuriating part of Gelboys centers around Chian’s complete blindness when it comes to his priorities. For a large portion of the series, it is incredibly painful to watch Fourthmod give his absolute all, loving Chian unconditionally and wearing his heart on his sleeve. Instead of reciprocating that pure affection, Chian constantly brushes Fourthmod aside, repeatedly choosing his friend, Bua, over the guy who clearly loves him. This constant rejection and mixed signals create moments of intense frustration where you just want to shake Chian and tell him to wake up. Watching Fourthmod get sidelined for a friend dynamic was exhausting and heartbreakingThankfully, the drama manages to save itself from being a tragedy. The writing pulls through in the final stretch, allowing Chian to finally sort out his feelings, realize what is truly important, and make the right choice. The story ends on a wonderfully positive, heartwarming note that cures all the built-up anger from the previous episodes. The conclusion feels well-deserved, but because the main couple’s actual happy era felt so short after all the drama, there is an immediate craving for more of their story.Ultimately, Gelboys is a fantastic 8.5/10 series that successfully blends heavy relationship drama with great comedic beats. It will make you furious at Chian’s dense decisions, but the beautiful endgame makes the emotional rollercoaster completely worth it. The chemistry between the leads is too good to leave behind, and fans are collectively crossing their fingers for a Season 2 where we can finally witness Chian and Fourthmod navigate their relationship without any third-party distractions.

SHINY NAILS WITH MISERABLE LIVES

actually, i tried watching the series when it first finished, but it was too cringeworthy. watching it again now, it feels like a much, much better series. they conveyed the things they wanted to say and the feelings they wanted to evoke very well. the acting was excellent. i thought this series would ruin the fixed partnership theme, but i guess that won't happen. :(

the beginning of the series felt a bit too much and a little boring, to be honest. it got better when the emotions involved were revealed. also, watching the series from everyone's perspective was really nice. even though there were some gaps and i was left wondering "what exactly happened?" but i liked this narrative style.

for4mod was clear from the beginning, but he lacked self-confidence. falling in love with someone like chian really wore him down. chian was full of uncertainties, not knowing what he wanted. and when chian finally realized what he wanted, it was always too late. still, they managed to be together somehow, congratulations to them.

baabin was my favorite from the beginning of the series, but in the end, he turned out to be a xenophobic bitch. although i initially thought bua was a bit of a cunty, he was the most thoughtfulof them all. he was extremely lonely, and every time he wanted someone around him, things only got more complicated. it broke my heart that he tried to change himself after what baabin said to him. but in the end, it was only baabin who could finally say, "please be my partner."

it was a cycle of teenagers completely unsure of themselves, stuck in a vicious cycle. i'm happy they broke the cycle and didn't leave each other. i hope the second season will be even better.

Beautifully made but emotionally distant

Visually stunning with thoughtful production and a unique vibe. GELBOYS had strong acting and an artistic style that made it easy to stay focused while watching. However, I didn’t feel emotionally invested in the story or the characters. It’s beautiful but lacks impact.

I respect the quality and what it tried to do, but there wasn’t much pull for me to keep watching or to rewatch it after finishing. I’m rating this 8/10, not because it’s perfect, but because it’s well-crafted and still gave me a good experience despite the emotional distance.

Personal rating: 8/10
Technical strength: 9/10
Emotional resonance: 7/10
