Chaotic and messy but intelligently written thriller!!!!

Man I honestly didn’t expect this show to get under my skin the way it did. 6 students, one teacher, messy relationships. Full of emotional damage. I mean in just 6 episodes they perfectly build up so many characters . Every character has so many layers--they showed both their loving + vulnerable parts . What I love most is that the show refuses to hand you a “good person” and a “bad person.” Every episode shifts your perspective a little more. Someone you sympathized with suddenly disappoints you. Someone you hated starts making painful sense. I mean you feel for everyone , you get sad when they get sad , you get happy when they are happy.

The writing deserves a lot of praise because the pacing could’ve easily collapsed with this many characters, but it never feels like that. The backstories are revealed at the right moments. The acting is also really really strong . Not just the emotional breakdown scenes, but the quieter moments too--the awkward pauses, the resentment, the jealousy, the tension when characters are clearly hiding things from each other. It feels natural instead of overdramatic.

And can we talk about the atmosphere? The directing and soundtrack give the series this heavy, uneasy feeling almost all the time, like something is constantly about to explode. The ost is very very enjoyyyable. When will they release the MV...i need to see it right noww lol. Girl Rules was meant to be like this. Chaotic and messy. But dont worry Shades beat it to us. This is probably one of the most emotionally messy and intelligently written Thai GL dramas I’ve watched in a long time.

Can’t wait for Part 2. I already know this show is going to ruin me emotionally.

Who's to judge who's good and who's bad?!

Six students, one teacher, one word: SNAFU. System normal, all ***ked up.... Do you guys watch SHADES? If you do, you'd understand my giddy admiration for this series. If you don't, oh my goodness, WATCH IT like it's the last show you'd ever watch!! Binge-watch episodes 1-5 & you'll get it: Every aspect of this dang show is so dang great on every dang level! Every episode gets better and better and better.... The back-stories. The character development. The direction. The acting. The whole production is a testament to intelligent storytelling! It is never easy to balance things perfectly with an ensemble cast - SHADES makes it look like a walk in a park: A park with criss-crossed meandering roads that lead to a deviously delicious hodgepodge of complications and consequences! 11 stars out of 10.

The deliciously chaotic, irresistibly wicked SHADES aired its cliffhanger of an episode 6, and apparently Season 2 would come out in 2027!🥲😅😂🤣

What an excruciatingly painful wait!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🥰😍😘💯❤️🇹🇭

Teenage girls can have real storyline in GL

After watching the 6 episodes of Shades and waiting for the rest… wow, what a series! I absolutely loved Shades and the stories about these teenage girls in this strict private school, especially the dynamics between the girls.

Amy, Sophie, Nano, Jane, Earn, and Belle all have really interesting backgrounds that make them different from one another, while still connecting them in some way.

I found the themes explored in the series really interesting: underage sex work, grooming, and the dynamics between teenage girls during adolescence, with all the emotional intensity, rivalry, power struggles, and complex relationships that come with that stage of life.

I honestly didn’t think the storyline involving Teacher Nalin would interest me that much, but now I really want to know what happens next, especially with Teacher Mink.

Even the intimate scenes are well done and feel believable, which makes the series even more immersive.

I’m really excited for the rest of the story: how will Sophie and Amy’s relationship develop, especially with Sophie’s mother involved and Amy’s own relationship situation? Will Earn and Belle finally take the next step and get together? And what about Jane and Nano—will they resolve their debt issues and maybe grow closer?

One thing I found disappointing, though, was the kiss between Jane and Nano happening while Nano was drunk, since in my opinion she wasn’t in a position to give proper consent.

Why Shades May Be the Thai GL to Beat This Year

We almost skipped Shades — and now we cannot stop thinking about it. In a crowded Thai GL landscape, the series stands out with layered storytelling, standout chemistry, emotional depth and consequences that actually matter. From breathtaking intimacy to emotionally messy drama that refuses easy resolutions, Shades delivers one of the strongest first seasons we have seen in recent Thai GL.

A masterpiece took my heart all

Shades the series

This series is a complete masterpiece, reminding me that how much i enjoyed every single episode. Honestly i had very high hope for it from the very beginning and I'm glad it didn't disappointed me at all.
I truly feel very sad abt what happened to Nalin. Her bitch gf really is a Monster, how can she even kiss her again, when She's getting married. Does she even know what does expectation from a gf mean? Nalin forever waited for her and got paid by abounded by gf. She's really a monster and a bitch.
I really hope to see Nano's story a bit more, It's still uncleared. Honestly in this point i understand why we're getting another season. I'm very glad for this. This series really took my heart all. And I'm very glad to give it my all. All these characters are my favorite. I really wish to watch sisha fall verg badly not after what She's keep doing to my kids. I'm very awaited for next episode but hear it, I'm very down for this one. After Clairebell this one already took my heart. I'm feeling very baddas to saying it.

MORE I WANT MORE!!!!

OH MY GOD, my jaw has never dropped this much before!!
First off, amazing acting debut to those who were new in the acting industry for Shades, you're all hella good!!!
Second off, THE WAIT WAS SO WORTH IT AHHAHA, I honestly thought they forgot about the project at some point but I was wrong, let them cook bro. The plot adds up, the writing is good, and the whole story is messed up in a good way which makes everyone excited. the OST gives me chills, i got it on repeat rn! I love the acting of sophies mom, its something new in a way with the exagerrated tantrum. BelleEarn, their story hasnt gone exactly too deep in terms of romance but theres so much lore that connects, so ready to see their messy relationship. JANENANO MY BABIESSSS, ENEMIES TO LOVERS!!! Janenano are so cute, i cant believe they were originally meant to be friends. JaneNano are the reason im OBSESSED with puyfaiploy rn, their chemistry is ssooooo adorable i doomscroll them everyday :sob: overall, good story, good music, good acting, also found out from this show that mook is back into acting! cant wait for s2!

Shades: A GL Drama That Dares to Feel Real

This series really surprised me... I already had expectations because of the plot and the setting "a religious-themed school " but even so, each episode took me to feelings I had missed experiencing in a drama, especially a GL one.
That genre is usually driven toward other kinds of sensations: melancholy romance, drama, and familiar tropes, but it doesn’t always reach full emotional complexity.
Shades i feel it doesn’t rely on the usual GL formula; instead, it builds empathy through realistic struggles, personal conflict, and strong performances.

Shades is a completely different color!

From the very first episode, you feel empathy for each one of the main characters, you understand their problems, and you connect with the way they are. They really manage to break through the screen.
This isn't just a GL about romance, families arranging marriages, or situations that border on fiction. Here you see reality... Anyone can identify with something these girls go through at that school and in their personal lives.
Incredible. I need a Season 2!
The camera work, performances, music... everything.

Also, thanks to Shades I discovered an extraordinary Thai band: The Darkest Romance.

Complex Characters and Difficult Themes Create an Emotionally Powerful Drama

As only the first part of a two-part series, the show does a very good job of establishing its characters, conflicts, and emotional themes while leaving enough unanswered questions to keep the audience invested in what comes next. Many character relationships and hidden motivations unfold piece by piece, gradually revealing a much larger and more interconnected story. The series is at its strongest when exploring difficult topics such as bullying, toxic family relationships, and personal identity, handling these themes with surprising maturity and emotional depth.

While the large number of storylines can occasionally make it take some time to fully familiarize yourself with everyone, many of the central characters become increasingly compelling as their backgrounds and motivations are revealed. Several relationship dynamics are handled particularly well, creating emotional investment without relying entirely on romance. Some questionable character decisions also receive additional context later on, rewarding viewers who remain patient with the story.

At the same time, the series is not without flaws. Some plot developments suffer from weak explanations or noticeable logical gaps. There are multiple moments where events seem to happen because the story requires them to, rather than because they feel completely justified within the narrative. Some antagonistic characters, particularly a few of the more openly villainous figures, lack nuance and often feel reduced to stereotypical "bad guy" roles. Additionally, several storylines ultimately move in the right direction emotionally, but the build-up leading to those moments can feel rushed or incomplete, making certain resolutions less believable than they could have been.

Since this is only the first half of the overall narrative, many unresolved questions, mysteries, and character arcs are clearly being saved for Part 2, making it difficult to fully judge certain plotlines at this stage.

Overall, Part 1 succeeds in exactly what it sets out to do: creating emotional investment in its characters and generating curiosity about what comes next. Despite some logical issues, rushed developments, and uneven character writing, the series remains engaging throughout thanks to its strong emotional themes, compelling drama, and ambitious multi-storyline approach. It may not answer every question yet, but it certainly leaves plenty of reasons to continue watching.

I need season 2 like right now, belle and earn are a couple they just don’t know it yet. Jane and nano I really like that couple a lot actually. Nano is extremely hot but she is a scammer and Jane is basically a loser which makes perfect sense for this couple, I hope they have their own series. Sophie and Amy is a really hot couple but Amy is basically a player and don’t know who she want. They broke up and “got back together” (the kissed) in episode 6 so I don’t know what to do with that information. And Sophie’s mom is genuinely on something because why is she acting like that. And belle earn, belle likes teacher nalin and I feel like it’s a normal thing, many lesbians have a crush on their teacher well at least I do. But the other way around no. Belle likes earn and teacher nalin and earn likes belle but they haven’t gotten to that part yet. I initially watched it because of Sophie and Amy’s couple but the “marketing” or whatever suggest that the teacher and belle would get together which is probably why many people didn’t like it but the story didn’t stir in that direction which I’m glad. Student teacher relationship especially with minors involved is not okay. But I feel like if this was university and belle was like 22 or something I don’t know I guess it’s okay because they are consenting adults but at the same time many people don’t like that idea.

Overall:
We have to wait till next year for season 2 which sucks but the storyline, acting, cast, music is all a 10. Probably my fav gl I ever seen even from just 6 episodes.

One of the best.....

Shades (uncut on YouTube) has to be one of the very best series out there. It is only 6 episodes, BUT there is more to come from this series.

If you are going to watch it, I would 100% truthly recommend you subscribe and join the FRT Entertainment channel on YouTube, for level 2 membership it is still pretty reasonable in cost, especially because you get to watch Shades the series Uncut version.

This version is absolutely right on the fine line of what is acceptable for youtube and tv with the simulated sex scenes. These young ladies have all been very brave and daring in shooting this series, I will say that!

The storylines are top notch, not a single bit of it felt like it dropped off or just simply vanished like what has happened with other gl series. You can truly see the heart and energy that was put into writing the scripts, deciding the storylines, choosing the actresses and other cast. Plus all the other hardwork that goes into filming a series of this size. The behind the scenes people should be very happy and proud with what they have produced with this series.

It shows quite alot of different forms of love and falling in love. Plus a whole variety of trials and tribulations that come with same sex love and the drama that often occurs same sex only schools, especially all girls schools.

I will be eagerly waiting for season 2 of this series and hoping it is just as good as this one. If the same people in front and behind the cameras are all involved I just know they will 'smash it out of the park' again.

I didnt like that I had to wait (Im in England) for this series to be released on this side of the world, but now im kind of glad because I may have missed out on the uncut version.

Thankyou for all your hard work in this series, i love it so much.

SHADES- a variety of fascinating characters

This was an amazing experience! I loved the script, storyline, characters, and acting so damn much.
Each pairing left me in awe with their profound narrative and presence. Their complex characters have built the theme and essence of the entire production. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring various pairings, and it was truly worthwhile, even if they didn't end up together.

I did NOT expect this--This is amazing.

Okay. To be honest, I watched this with no expectations. Many new companies often fail to capture what people really want and come back to. However, Mook and her co-partner for FRT ent did a great job finding pairs with great chemistry and a good storyline. Mind you, almost more than half of the cast are rookie actors. You wouldn't even be able to tell once you watch Shades! Shades is very different from other school gl romances, I can def tell you that haha. They balanced 3 storylines perfectly (although I would want more JaneNano screen time cus their chemistry is insane), the cinematography is crazy good, and so is the editing. I like that the story humanizes flawed characters instead of reducing them to perfect stories, allowing viewers to not only relate with them but also empathize with their motivations even when their actions are wrong. You don't agree with what they do, but you can't help but root for them–which is amazing, considering how many GLs are unrealistic when it comes to "real life" issues (imo). Although this show highkey causes me stress because of all the character issues 😭, there is almost comedic relief and some scenes.. (iykyk). These new CPs have a chokehold on me (PuyfaiPloy, NikyEngland, and OpalMint), I can't wait to see them grow more popular as actors, also love the entire cast! Can't wait for season 2!
