Our female lead just keeps impressing me. Even though she is thrown into a very unfamiliar environment—without luxuries and forced to live very humbly—she still strives... and, to be honest, the results are pretty good. 😉👍
However, her backstory is quite sad and disturbing at some level. The way she was bullied was quite hard to watch. No wonder she had to grow thick skin and her villainous, ruthless character—it was all to survive so that no one would bully her anymore. 🫢😔
Another interesting point is that she apparently fell in love with her saviour, the guy who looks exactly like Cha Se-Gye, and to make things even more interesting, his cousin Choi Mun-Do is an exact copy of the King. Does this mean those two guys are reincarnated souls of the Joseon royalty? And I wonder why Kang Dan-Sim didn't recognize Cha Se-Gye as the guy from Joseon? Which one is the "Royal Nemesis" the title refers to now? Or could it be all three of them to one another? 🤔
And please, give us more scenes with our leads hugging under the rain of petals or other nice, romantic droplets! ❤️

I think this drama is more of a call back to the classic 2000s/2010s era of romcom kdramas, so if you enjoyed those shows back then, then you'd probably enjoy this one. I like how the story and characters stand strong despite the lack of the glossy budget and high-profile names. It may not be as beautifully shot as the currently airing Perfect Crown, but it's entertaining and straightforward. The stakes are established from the start and the characters are interesting by themselves and when they're put together.
I'm curious as to how far they'll lean into the fantasy element of the show, like the whole past lives bit for Se-gye and possibly Mun-do? But it is refreshing to have a time-displaced character who isn't trying to return to her original timeline, unlike the other more recent time travel shows like Yoona's Bon Appetit. Seo-ri/Dan-shim takes her circumstances head-on in her new life, and I feel like the audience can relate to her struggles in a capitalist society and also feel charmed by her awe at how easy modern life can be. It doesn't feel like the show is pushing an agenda down your throat about the ~charms of the modern age~ and instead lets us look at the world through Seo-ri's eyes.
