How much life can pass in a day-Before Sunrise meets fast paced Beijing

The number one defining characteristic of this movie is that the characters feel so real. Each character is flawed, full of complex emotions, and so much personality. This movie is about two people who meet by chance who prolong the night hour by hour. New events and characters take them to another place, another restaurant, another story-- Living in a big fast paced city can make life pass by. In the same sense that you don't have time for a movie, so you watch a 5 minute recap, only experiencing the shortened less complex version, you pass up so many moments in life. This movie is about slowing down and living rather than rushing through.

Story-
The story is quite similar to Before Sunrise in concept. Two people meet and spend a full day and night together, simply talking away each minute. But this story feels a bit gritter, with the fast paced city of Beijing as it's backdrop. The two characters with differing ideologies on love slowly open up to each other in a display of emotion intimacy that felt so raw and beautiful. The emotional intimacy, the hesitation of sharing another part of themselves, it's the core of the story.

The characters themselves mention Before Sunrise and Chungking Express, it's evident that the writer of this movie feels passionate about both of those stories and created this movie from that.

This is how you take such a simple concept and make it something wonderful. The whole story takes place in a single day, each moment turning into a small journey allowing us to learn and understand the characters as they connect to one another.

Acting-
Ma Si Chun was amazing as always. She is amazing at completely becoming a character. She feels strong, bold, and confident, but is able to convey the sadness and pessimism as well. She gives a very effective layered performance. Edward Chen is an actor that had a great performance in Lesson in Love. He has relatively few roles, but does amazing each time. He played the sweet and innocent, but mature, worried, and complex ML. Each side character felt like real people as well.

Cinematography and Lighting-
The majority of the story takes place at nighttime and the city lights are fully utilized. Even when the characters are inside, the neon lights shine through windows. The city feels like a living breathing character as well. I loved all of the colorful lighting and how it framed the tone of each scene.

For those that want romance stories that feel like love stories, full of depth and actual intimacy that doesn't just come from physical actions, this is the movie for you. By the end of the movie, you'll be wanting more of their story.
