I had a good feeling ever since I saw the trailer!
Episodes 1 and 2: The series is very funny, well-produced with a good, dynamic script and well-developed characters. Right away we understand the personality, desires and dreams of the characters, and how they intend to get where they want to be (That's how I like it!). Even the secondary characters are charming (Jiu is my favorite character in the series!).

In addition, the series' visuals are unique! Both Si's mansion and Klao's farm are very beautiful, different from the usual settings used in other productions.

Simply Smashing!

Self-aware and kooky as all get-out! That's what Hometown Romance is!

It's a drama with real color! And not just in the outfit choices, but with the upbeat, animated intro, the cheesy music, the landscape, and even the energy of the leads. And the comedy? It gave Me and Thee vibes meets the setting of Meet Yourself, which tells you how positive I felt about it!

Klao and Si were each their own special brand of ridiculous that melded together into a delightful romantic duo that schmoozed each other so hard they repeatedly fell again and again until they just decided to succumb and become that couple who makes heart-eyes in public and flirts like there's no tomorrow and they're still in their honeymoon phase.

Not once did I feel like it dragged or that there was anything inserted just to pad the runtime. Every character and conflict was uniquely charming.

And I loved how full of life Klao's community was. Well-meaning neighbors showing up at your door at all hours to chat, who, once they quickly grow fond of you, are all too willing to throw a legendary dance party in your honor, complete with homemade alcohol.

if you switch off your brain enjoyable

After watching all 8 episodes, honestly, the series should have only been 6 episodes long, because after episode 6, nothing particularly interesting really happens.

The series is entertaining… if you switch your brain off. Because the moment you actually start thinking about it, there are so many things that just don’t make sense.

Klao and Si seriously lack depth. Nothing about their characters was developed with strong writing; it all felt rushed to me. Even the death of the kid… I don’t even remember his name, which says a lot about how little emotional attachment the show managed to create. In my opinion, they did absolutely nothing to make viewers care about that character.

Klao and Si’s relationship works on screen mainly because Lookmhee and Sonya have great chemistry. But that’s where it stops, because underneath that, the dynamic feels very predatory, with a clear lack of boundaries.

Si’s relationship with her family was also handled really poorly, especially with her sister. One day they’re in conflict, and the next everything is suddenly fine, with no real explanation or apology. I hate when shows treat viewers like they’re stupid by resolving things that way.

And finally, the humor just wasn’t for me at all. I found it way too much, forced, and honestly pretty cringe.

Hometown Romance does exactly what it sets out to do...

It delivers a light GL romcom built on class contrast, charm, and effortless chemistry. What I especially appreciated was its rural atmosphere, which gave the series a distinct flavor and made the setting feel warm and refreshing. Klao and Si’s dynamic is not predatory, but rather a reversal of expectations, with the rural side holding the stronger position from the outset. The humor leans into intentional slapstick, which may not work for everyone, but is clearly part of the show’s tonal identity rather than a flaw in execution. And Jiu, along with the animals (the children of Klao’s world), brought a great deal of charm and humor I genuinely found myself laughing through their little adventures. It is not a show that aims for heavy psychological depth or intricate dramatic construction, and judging it by those standards misses the point. Within its own genre, however, it is thoughtfully made, carried by a soundtrack that adds warmth and lift, and by actresses who, as always, demonstrate remarkable talent and presence.

If Si’s jealousy felt abrupt, I’d read it as emotional residue rather than a tonal shift... Someone who has been betrayed and made to feel displaced will often react to small triggers as if the old wound is happening again. That makes her arc feel less like inconsistency and more like a wound being reactivated.

Balancing Chaotic Comedy and Serious Storytelling

The series succeeds because it fully embraces its identity as a romantic comedy while still knowing exactly when to become emotionally serious. What makes it stand out is how naturally it switches between absurd comedy, emotional drama, romance, and even heavier themes without completely losing its tone. Many scenes that could easily feel awkward or overly exaggerated somehow still work because the chemistry between the leads keeps the emotional core believable and charming throughout the entire series.

The relationship development between Si and Klao is especially enjoyable because it gradually evolves from pure comedic chaos into something emotionally sincere and surprisingly mature. The series also deserves credit for handling certain relationship conflicts and uncomfortable situations more openly and thoughtfully than many other GL dramas do. Combined with strong production quality, entertaining pacing, and genuinely funny comedy, the show remains consistently engaging from beginning to end.

At the same time, the series is not without flaws. Some plot developments rely on convenient or cliché storytelling, certain character developments happen too quickly, and the antagonist never becomes particularly complex or interesting. The portrayal of farm life remains very superficial despite being such an important part of the setting.

Still, despite these weaknesses, the series delivers exactly what it wants to be: a funny, emotional, warm, and highly entertaining romantic comedy with strong chemistry, memorable emotional moments, and a surprisingly good balance between humor and serious storytelling.

Light-hearted GL with just a pinch of nice character development

I think for a bubbly, cute rom-com in the backdrop of rural Thailand, Hometown Romance did exactly what it set out to do: deliver a fun, refreshing GL that is uplifting, with loveable characters and lots of comedic relief. For what it is, Hometown Romance did well. They never promised any deep drama or anything too serious; it's still supposed to be a countryside rom-com and I think the outcome fits the bill.
It's fun, it's colourful and the chemistry is great. I didn't expect anything too deep; they still gave us a lovely bit of character development.
LMSY delivered an amazing performance as always!
While there were some sequences that felt a bit too rushed or perhaps the villain arc was a bit shallow, I think that doesn't take away too much from the series overall.

So, I think this is for everyone who wants to enjoy a GL that is a bit different, refreshing and fun, or perhaps someone who is looking for a drama with beautiful countryside shots bc there's LOTS! I know all the LMSY fans don't even need convincing for this one :)

A story about accepting yourself, accepting others, and personal growth.

Hometown Romance is without a doubt one of the most refreshing Thai GL series in recent years. In a genre that is often built around heavy drama, suffering, and toxic relationships, this series goes in a completely different direction. Instead of building its story around pain and endless conflict, it chooses warmth, humor, romance, and character growth, making it feel more like a story about maturity, change, and self-discovery than a classic melodrama. The series follows Si, a spoiled heiress from a wealthy family who, after losing her chance to become company president, ends up in the countryside because of a land dispute involving Klao’s family. It is there that she meets the girl who will completely change the way she sees the world. The “rich city girl ends up in the countryside” trope is not new, but the execution gives the story its own identity and a lot of heart. The series does not use this contrast only as romantic scenery — it turns it into the foundation of the characters’ development.

The series does a very good job introducing the world, the conflict, and its characters. From the beginning, it is clear who Si is, why she behaves the way she does, and that her problems do not come only from her personality. The story immediately suggests that behind her impulsiveness, selfishness, and superficial view of people are past experiences, relationships, and the way she was treated by her family. The pilot also builds the contrast between Si’s world and Klao’s world extremely well — on one side there is Bangkok, full of pressure, responsibilities, and expectations, and on the other there is the peaceful countryside, built more around relationships and everyday life. The pacing is very well balanced. The story never drags, but it never rushes either. There is always something happening, while still leaving room for ordinary daily moments, character development, and relationship building. Those quieter scenes give the series its unique atmosphere and make the world feel alive. The dialogue also works very well. Especially in lighter scenes and moments of teasing between the leads, the conversations feel natural and memorable. The humor never feels forced, while the series still includes more emotional storylines when needed.

10/10 One of the best GLs of 2026
What can I say, it was one of the most anticipated GLs of 2026 and for me, it might be the best one too. It went beyond my expectations. The script is very well-written, Sonya is extremely talented and expressive actress and Lookmhee is very nonchalant and teasing. They're perfect for these roles. Jokes are genuinely funny, not like the cringey ones I've witnessed in other GLs. I don't think there's ever been or ever will be a bad LMSY series. They have this amazing ability to really make you see and feel for the character, they're one of the most underrated actresses in my opinion. What else is there to say, for me, it is simply perfect.
