A former vampire hunting actor Chin Siu-Ho finds himself reaching the end of the line as a washed-up star who is also separated from his wife and alienated from his son. Down on his luck and with barely a dollar to his name, he checks into room 2442 in the housing estate which is allegedly a haunted flat. His aim is to end his misery by doing himself in, but instead he is interrupted by some of the other “occupants” of the building including a Taoist master-exorcist, a traumatized housewife with a tragic past, as well as a seemingly benign elderly woman who has an empty coffin conspicuously hanging in the middle of her apartment. Despite his lack of belief in superstition, the actor is soon thrust into the battle of his life as vicious vampires with a lot of unsettled business begin to rise from the dead...

The narration is rather obscure, the ending is a bit malicious. Almost like a most fantastic nightmare you've ever seen. Visually, sane and wise, it is simply inspiring.
"Rigor Mortis" makes you travel in the fanciful, extremely poetic and disturbing rather than awful, which may explain some high rankings.
The Japanese horror elements are there, but carefully blended with Chinese folklore. The story ends up making good sense in general, if you're patient enough, even if some elements remain a bit confusing. Watching this movie is like taking a picture of something that shocks most people.

First off let me say that I really liked this movie. I like the fact that we get to see a Chinese horror movie with out all of the comedy. That being said I found the marriage of Chinese myth/folklore and J-Horror ascetics to be a bit uneven. The acting was subdued with worked but the main actor lacked any real presence. I would have love to see this with less CGI and more practical effect but oh well. Pretty solid not quite but almost must see movie.
