China has gone fron censorship hell to masterpieces.! More Please!
Double Helix is just amazing on every level. The acting performances are oscar level. Really superb. The production quality is just has good has any high budget show. No flaws.
The writing and directing are masterclass level. Truly impressive.
China has changed the BL industry standards. Since 2024 Blue Canvas of Youthful Days the shows have steady improvied.
To the impressive quality of shows like: ABO Desire, Revenged Love, To My Shore, Secrets Happened on the Litchi Island
Currently Airing Double Helix and Journey with You are just adding to this amazing list of shows.
The only downside is my expectations are much higher now, which makes itvharder to watch mediocre shows with below average writiing and acting.

Ok, this is trigerring, very triggering and gets really dark....but damn good despite all that!!!!
Be prepared to be very angry, livid, in fact, fuming and cursing a lot.....but don't you dare miss this!! Great story, acting, script...and wait till episode 5-6, when things get really good. I mean bad...really BAD and gets you hooked!!As the story progressed, with each episode this just gets better and better....but if you have been through homophobia, family opposition and blatant arm-twisting by parents and family, be warned that this will trigger you...BIG TIME.....the bottom line is -these parents, they needed to have died much earlier....BEFORE they ruined everyone's life...and queer people need to find their spine and STOP ruining their own and other people's lives just so that they can be the 'good child' to their monstrous parents, and play the victim of being the martyr. Ok, rant done, this is good...damn good...don't miss it
BL-needle Score: 6. It has a lot of men loving men, but not really BL-ishq, if you know what I mean
Started out uber cute, the ML looking super handsome, doting on the MC, and bordering on obsessive-possessive.. the super red-flag-ey, won't listen to no -kind ...just when they find each other, their love story quickly veers towards a complete mess and heartbreak, with families, money, reputation and homophobia ruining everything....separating them, across oceans, and timelines...and just when you think the bish parents, and entitled, opportunistic, younger bro can't be any worse...SURPRISE....the protagonist himself sabotages everything by walking away, getting married and completely blindsiding the one person who loved him against everything, and through everything.
At Episode 8 right now when things have just started to turn good, the wronged lover is finally seeming to have his time...though I get a feeling that Lu Feng will eventually melt and succumb to this undying love for Cheng Yi...I wish he takes till the very last moment to do so though...because if I was Lu Feng, I would rub it in harder...much harder
Ep 9 DAMN!!! This has gone absolutely pitch dark now.....beyond toxic....the devil in Lu Feng is unleashed...all that anger, jealousy, repression, sense of betrayal, has made him into another person altogether :(
There was a movie on the same book in 2016, which has rave reviews. While I haven't watched that one, I am definitely glued on with this show. As I already said, Damn Good!!
What are you waiting for...Go Watch!!

? Lu Feng Wasn't the Villain Everyone Thinks He Was
Honestly, I think a lot of people watch Double Helix and immediately label Lu Feng as the most toxic or delusional character in the drama. But very few people stop to ask why he became that way in the first place. Imagine being deeply in love with someone like Cheng Yichen, who constantly struggles to stand up for your relationship and often allows his family, especially his younger brother, to influence his decisions. That already shows that he doesn't have much control over his own life or relationship. Because of that, Lu Feng is always left fighting alone, which is one of the main reasons he ends up looking obsessed or delusional to everyone around him. Yes, later in the story we learn that he develops psychological issues, but when you're constantly fighting for a love that the other person isn't strong enough to protect alongside you, it's easy to understand how someone can slowly lose themselves. That doesn't excuse all of Lu Feng's actions, but it does explain them. Overall, Double Helix is a very interesting drama that explores love, obsession, family pressure, and emotional damage in a way that keeps you invested from beginning to end. For me, it's a solid 10/10. ⭐️✨Was this review helpful to you?

Double Disaster
Trigger Warning - SA! Suicide attempt! Self-harm! I'll have to give some major spoilers to explain why I have given this drama a low rating but essentially it involves the triggers and how they were handled. It is an attack on one's sensibilities. Also, this drama uses AI for overhead city and street scenes. There is literally a car driving on the wrong side of the road in one part.Frankly the plot was interesting at first. Guy falls in love with his school mate. Being of the same gender, they face critcism not just from the school but also their parents who want them separated. Even after years pass, when they finally meet again, they again face problems due to their families. Up until this point, the plot is good. The struggle is valid.
The problems with the plot started when they first threw in non-consensual sex. This was when Lu Feng and Yi Chen become intimate for the very first time. Lu Feng refuses to stop when told no. It was disturbing but unfortunately there are too many BLs like this. Yi Chen walks out, Lu Feng apologises saying he'll never to do it again.
Years later, Lu Feng has only grown angrier as a person and his behaviour is more disturbing. He not only causes YiChen's mother to be hospitalised, his attack also injures YiChen's younger brother. He takes no responsibility for his actions. After the second separation, Lu Feng upon meeting YiChen again, drugs him, assaults him, keeps him hostage, assaults him again after YiChen attempts suicide. Again, he does nothing to make up for these and it is brushed aside by the drama.
The show tries their best to minimise everything by giving Lu Feng a psychiatric disorder. That doesn't do away with rape but we gotta have a happy ending so by drama logic, all's good!
Besides these major problems in how they dealt with the character's "short comings", there were many moments that were simply repetitive. They practically destroyed the chemistry between the two since one was abusive and the other was tolerating abuse and not even capable of speaking for himself. His masochistic tendencies made me dislike him adding to this disastrous storyline. I couldn't see them together anymore. It was torture. The last two episodes were a struggle. Also, sorry to say, Yi Chen's half open mouth expressions were meh. He has very blunted emotions most of the time as a character which make him quite boring.
The few good things about this drama besides the initial real life homophobia depictions were the healthy relationship between little YiChen (both brothers have the same name) and his green flag boyfriend, Qin Lang. To be honest, the only actor that I found attractive among these 4 leads is Fa Xuan Ge. I wish he had a longer role. Respectful, caring, giving, sensible, you name it. And frankly this second couple makes the first look even more like a train wreck. The contrast between how Lu Feng and Qin Lang handle situations are stark! The younger brother, YiChen - though his character is not very remarkable but at least his concern for his brother came through as genuine.
The BEST thing about this show though is the music. Forget the Double Headache of a drama, just listen to the OST and call it a day!

May Lu Feng kind of love never find me
Oh boy where do I even begin?I knew that boy was trouble when he walked in
Like “Fan Xiao from Ti my shore ” kind of trouble
Did I mention this story it’s 80-% similar to the manhwa full circle ?
If you are faint of heart and easily triggered don’t watch this. This show doesn’t do anything unique
It’s the same tired trope of an obsessive abuser hell bent on destroying the mc’s life all in the name of love. Lu Feng is unapologetic in his narcissism. He thinks just because he loves Xiaocheng then Xiaocheng must love him and want to be with him no matter what. Guy lacks empathy, anyone can go to hell including his own family as long as he has Xiaocheng, who clearly can’t stand his psychotic narcissistic ass.
BIG SPOILER!!!!!!!
When Xiaocheng is in coma, Lu Feng literally says”this is good, you lying down here quietly, that way you can’t go anywhere, you can’t leave me, this way it feels like you belong to me completely”
That says a lot
This man is sick
May this kind of man and lover never find me
In case I forgot to mention it , there are multiple scenes of SA. Which are never addressed btw because how else will we know how much Lu Feng loves Xiao Cheng.
I tend to rate Chinese bls slightly higher because I love Mandarin, otherwise if this was a Thai Bl best believe I would have given it 2 stars,

A story of obsessive psycho and his Stockholm syndrome lover he can't let go
The boundary between love and obsession is very thin. Nothing is good is it's too much. Since the beginning Lu feng's obsession runs too deep and Yi chen is just a hopeless mouse who will never b able to get out of his paws. Two boys met, fell in love what could go wrong right? But here everything went wrong. As much as I hate lu feng's action I also realize that it was the society that driven him to take such drastic steps. Then again you can't control what happens to you but what you do is your responsibility. Both parent family gave them no choice, either abandon the world or leave your love cause they knew even love cannot survive aloneLu feng and Yi chen were wronged by their parents, the society. Lu feng's anger management issue made him took some drastic steps that is irreversible. And Yi chen's cowardice only made it worse. Both of them are at fault. They can't be together yet can't stay without each other either. Such a paradoxical fate
Let me praise Ayden. This actor did a tremendous job. Lu feng before theirs separation, after meeting and at last two episode were totally three different person. His expression are perfected to the micro level. I enjoyed each of his scene. The more I hated lU feng the more I loved the actor. He did that hell of a job
Yichen was cute, sunshine. perfect cast for what the role needed at the beginning. That's why their chemistry shined so much. But later his acting paled compared to Ayden
The worst part of this series is probably screenwriting. There is literally no coherent storyline going on. We are jumping from one scene to another. Everyone beside main two characters are sow piece and barely has any value to the plotline. The second couple.... severed nothing though their story had so much potential. There is no logic behind what's going on. This show is only watchable if you are focusing on the main character's chemistry otherwise there's nothing really noteworthy
So my question is can a trash plotline be saved by a couple with sizzling chemistry?

2 literally crazy people in love
I think this drama was just wayy too toxic for me. I came here after "To My Shore" which also had a black flag but with a really good redemption arc. This one was just pure torture for me. There was just 1 episode where everyone was happy i.e. the trip episode and the rest of the series is filled with toxicity and homophobia.I absolutely despise Lu Feng and I still don't feel he actually truely loves Yi Cheng but is just obsessed over him. The entire series he just keeps raping him over and over again with no explanation. Ends up ragebaiting all their homophobic parents to the grave and keeps hurting Yi Cheng since ep 1. I'm not sure why people don't see that and just are like oh no Yi Cheng is the bad guy.
But 1 thing I liked was that they didn't normalize it but they showed that Lu Feng was actually mentally ill the whole time.
Coming to the acting it was just 🤌🤌🤌. Especially the scene where Yi Cheng's ex comes to save Yi Cheng from Lu Feng. The hug mixed with fear, anger and confusion and the fact that the audience could see all 3 like damn.
I absolutely loved the 2nd couple. Both He Jia Shu and Fa Xuan Ge❤️❤️❤️❤️ they're adorable. I know the brother kinda messes up in the middle but for me that wasn't exactly a big deal cz that issue was resolved n Lu feng messed up again🙄.
Overall it's good. But 1 time is all i can watch this

A double helix of love and destruction and two souls
This drama is not for fragile hearts or people who are looking for ideal character. It is way darker than what one can handle. It comes with a heavy warning of SA, Torture,Kidnap, Homophobia, Emotional Codependence,Bipolar Disorder,Societal pressure, Unsupportive parents, On and off situation.Drama starts with very romantic and a relationship that gives you nothing but butterflies in your stomach. But don't fall for it.. because as the story progresses the drama gets darker and darker. It is hard to say who is good and who is bad and what caused this. All characters in the series are flawed but you will cry with them as well.
Plot-
The story revolves around two souls Lufeng and Yichen who fell in love with each other deeply in their school days. All they wanted was to spend the lifetime with each other. Throughout the time they loved each other but like the two crossed lovers fate brings them together and then separate from each other leaving nothing but pain and longing for just be together. That seperation took the form of destruction. A destruction that brought harm to both of them and separated them even more to the point of not able to fix anything. They both were toxic to each other but at the same time the happiness of each other. Even though they bring out monstrous side of each other they chose their love and tried to fix as much as it was possible.
Though the plot sounds dreamy but there are certain parts in the plot that I wish it could be handled with care. The characters pov should be shown better in order to avoid the notion of that only one is obsessed and other is not when both lufeng and yichen were obsessed with each other.
Characters:-
Lufeng- Lufeng was nothing but a person who grown up with abusive parents. He don't know how to love someone with care and softness. So when he fell in love with yichen who was his light. He just wanted to hold onto that warmth. His love know no boundaries. But as he was brought up in rich family he can't take no. So when separation happens instead of letting go or just handling the matter in a mature way. He went into completely black flag era which i don't think I have ever watched of that toxic level. That longing and separation which made him like a walking corpse in order to show his pain and take revenge he went to the lengths of raping and inflicting the pain and harm to the person he loved most( yichen) on soul level. But he learnt to restrain his actions. Lufeng will make u cry, hate and feel pain along with him. He is a very flawed character. Sometimes u ques him if he deserve his happy ending. But this series handled the atrocities that he inflicted on yichen with care by repeatedly showing that this is not acceptable, that what he is doing is completely wrong and he don't deserve yichen. Series will ques his love for yichen. Even lufeng will ques himself. That part is something that i appreciate in the series.
Yichen- He is a person who is unable to take actions and runs away from the situation whenever little discomfort happens. He is people pleaser. But he is also the victim like lufeng. One decision of him not holding his ground and leave lufeng due to his Homophobic family and dying mother wish changed the whole relationship with lufeng. But he is also the person who time and again chose to go back to lufeng just because he is in love with him and his hope that what if this time they get their happy ending, what if there is even slightest of hope for lufeng to change. But he is also the person who never fights for his relationship. U will understand his logic and emotion behind his decisions but hate him also. But u empathize with him as well.
Yichen's brother Yichen-I don't hate him. I just never understood why drama never showed that he intentionally hid lufeng's parting msg to yichen later. This decision led yichen to believe that lufeng is gone for good and will never come back.
Yichen's mother-I get it that society was against the same sex relationship that time so she chose society pinpointing and their standards over his own son yichen's happiness and her homophobia is also the reason of whatever pain both yichen and lufeng beared for almost a decade.
Costume- Throught out the series, costume of both lufeng and yichen has been designed to reflect their state of mind and their emotional stand in relationship. Earlier in the series, both lufeng and yichen wore bright colours like warm sunshine rays in spring season. Then during lufeng's black flag era lufeng wore black depicting his obsession, death, emptiness. While yichen wore white showing peace and freedom he seeks but has been snatched away from. Then again in their last phase they wore plain and neutral colour not too bright but not too dull. Just like their relationship.
Camera and lighting- The directors has done a very good job in portraying diff colours according to their relationship. In beginning phase showing bright and warm colours of sunlight then after separation and black flag era mostly white showing depression like vibes then at the end again neutral or original lighting. Mixture of both.
Props/ Screenwriting - What amazed me is how screenwriter has used perfect props as metaphor to reflect their state of mind during black flag era. All those bird cage, chains, double pendulum, the furniture, the placement of actors in screen and their posture. The repeated reference to sunflower and sunlight. Everything was so perfectly done.
OST- The songs "My love" and "Love song that nobody cares about" are so good that now it's been in my playlist on repeat. It's memorable.
Ayden acting- I can see no one but ayden to play this role. Lufeng was such a complex character but ayden portrayed so well. His pain, sadness, yearning and love, his possessiveness and the way he used to look at yichen as lufeng as a character. It won my heart. Everything about his acting was perfect. I am definitely looking forward for his future projects.
Lu si tong acting- He did a good job in showing the resistance and the hurt. He showed what yichen is feeling and his dilemma so well. What remains memorable to me is how he portrayed that lufeng has hurted him to the core and he is seeking protection by his body posture and the way he portrayed his depressed smile when he was hurting inside.
Kisses- It was after a very long time that i have seen an actor to portray the intensity of love, possesion, obsession, anger and desire through kisses. And Ayden deserves this recognition because it's rare these days for an actor to be able to do that.
Drama handling of sensitive issues- Although i genuinely believe that some topics should be handled more sensitively but overall they did good job in repeatedly showing that this is wrong.
Drama vs Novel- This is imp. I loved drama adaptation way more. In novel the way lufeng was shown if that would have been adapted the same in drama i would never wanted lufeng to be happy. The way drama toned down him and the way their separation period was lessen with no son involvement is what I am happy. Plus in drama the portrayal of lufeng being sick and him undergoing therapy made him and his actions little bit understandable which was unlike novel and i am so grateful about that. Although that still not justify his SA towards yichen. That was crossing all humanity and there is no redemption arc for that. That SA is like a thorn in flower petals carpet.
Rewatch- I would hardly rewatch it as this drama gave me nothing but trauma and i need only their special ep with only green flag aura to heal. Only their ep1-2 and 11-12 is re-watchable for me. Other ep just gives me trauma.
Overall I loved this drama for how flawed their characters are. The way I was obsessed with this drama by sleeplessly waiting for next ep each week and thinking about the drama whole week and rewatching their sweet moments made this my toxic bl drama of the year. It was a heavy watch for me but this drama kept me engaged that I never dropped. Sometimes it's not the perfect story that remains with us but it's their pain and tears and the characters flaw with character development is what that stays in ur heart.
I would recommend it to watch only if you can handle the depth of the characters and the toxicity that it comes with it. As this drama actually can be triggering to people given the sensitive issues that it has shown.

HUGE THANK FOR THE HAPPY ENDING
This became one of the best C-dramas/Boy’s Love series of 2026 that I’ve ever watched. Watching this drama finally ended my anxiety. The storyline is full of challenges: there’s joy, sadness, hatred, and that’s just the nature of life. There’s always sweetness and bitterness that we have to endure. Thank you so much, Ayden, Lusi, Faxuan, Hejia, and all the actors involved. You all gave your best, and it really showed to everyone who watched this drama. And another huge thank you for giving us a happy ending. One more thing: Jiage Li’s cover of the OST A Love Song Nobody Cares About (没人在乎的情歌) for this drama never disappoints... just like his song "Degenerate" (沦陷), the OST from A Round Trip to Love (双程), the earlier version of this drama. I love it so much!

a mix of cuteness, toxicity and a lot of emotions
first id like to talk about the cast, they did such a great job esp ayden's performance its so great, a great actor indeed, he portrayed lu feng so well, and Lu Si Tong is such a cutie he is so adorablethe ost is great, an intriguing story which switch from cute to toxic and dark to cute again and give us all type of feelings from giddiness, to sadness, to frustration and anger, to more giddiness from cute scenes
i highly recommend it for people who can handle toxic and dark stories, its better to check the tags and the trailer before watching tho as it can be very triggering

The story follows Lu Feng and Cheng Yichen, two young men who fall in love during their school years only to be torn apart by family expectations, social pressure, and a series of painful misunderstandings. Years later, they meet again, but neither of them is the same person they once were. What follows is a complicated journey filled with unresolved feelings, resentment, longing, and the question of whether love can survive after so much damage has been done. The early episodes capture the excitement and innocence of first love surprisingly well. There is a sense of vulnerability and discovery that makes it easy to become attached to the characters before everything begins to fall apart. This emotional foundation is essential because it allows the later episodes to hit much harder.
Let's talk about the toxic nature of this relationship. Lu Feng is far from being a green flag, and many of his actions throughout the story are possessive, controlling, and difficult to justify. At the same time, Cheng Yichen is not a perfect victim either. His fear, passivity, and inability to communicate often contribute to the cycle of pain between them.
Despite all the toxicity, I found myself completely invested in their story. A large part of that comes down to the chemistry between Ayden Sng and Lyu Sitong. Their performances carry much of the emotional weight of the series. Whether the characters are in love, angry, heartbroken, or unable to let each other go, the connection between the actors always feels believable.
What impressed me most was how addictive the story became. Even when I disagreed with the characters' decisions, I always wanted to know what would happen next. The drama constantly balances hope and heartbreak, making it difficult to stop watching. There were moments when I wanted to shake both protagonists and tell them to communicate properly, yet those same frustrations made their journey feel more human and emotionally authentic.
The relationship is messy, emotionally damaging, and often uncomfortable to watch. However, for those who enjoy intense romances, morally flawed characters, and stories that are willing to explore the darker side of love, there is a lot to appreciate here.
