Logic Optional, Feelings Mandatory
Chinese BLs have quietly become one of my favorite corners of the genre, and Lost to You is a good example of why. There's almost always something heavy underneath the surface. Sometimes that's the last thing I need. But when I actually want to feel something, this is exactly where I go.Visually, the series looks like it was filmed in a different decade entirely. Low budget, slightly faded, somewhere between a school drama and an old TV melodrama. Whether that's intentional or not, it ends up being part of its charm.
The premise is dramatic from the start: a teenager with terminal brain cancer returns to the village where he was once happy, meets the local "jinx," and what starts as a hostile first encounter becomes one of the more believable enemies-to-lovers arcs I've seen in a while. The feelings develop slowly and naturally on both sides, and it shows.
The second couple is more complicated. I understood the chemistry, but a former school doctor and a student is a dynamic I can never quite get comfortable with — and the series doesn't really try to address it. What I did appreciate was the older brother's backstory: beaten deaf by his own father after being outed, then losing his partner in an accident. The emotional shutdown makes complete sense. My issue is that even with someone new, he barely lets the wall crack. At some point, a little warmth would've gone a long way.
Then comes the father reveal. He was secretly gay all along, and the years of abuse were apparently internalized homophobia. I didn't buy it. Not every abusive parent needs an explanation. Some people are just cruel, and forcing a redemption arc onto that felt like the writers trying to tidy up something that didn't need to be tidy. Also — this man spent decades hiding his sexuality while keeping a framed photo of himself and his ex casually displayed in the house. Bold move.
The ending is... certainly something. Two boys standing on a cliff watching fragments of a comet fall from the sky, somehow choosing to stay there together.
My interpretation is that when Xu Yuan writes the infinity symbol and follows the monk's instructions, the comet becomes the beginning of an endless loop. That's why we see them together again afterwards, riding their scooter as if everything is starting over. Instead of a conventional happy ending, it felt more like two souls destined to keep finding each other.
Lost to You is full of clichés, plot holes and more than a few questionable writing decisions. Yet despite all of that, it still managed to touch me. Maybe because beneath all the melodrama is a sincere story about loneliness, grief, first love and trying to find happiness when you already know your time is running out. Sometimes that's enough.

a dissapointment that couldve been good
it sucks because it started off great, but i dont even know when the plot started to become terrible.i think the moment when i knew it was truly over for this show was when we FINALLY got the cancer reveal and the acting from everybody was so ridiculous.
first of all, they basically dropped the cancer thing for most of the show. then when it was finally coming back this big reveal we've been waiting for... god.
the acting was terrible, the writing was terrible, all of it was terrible. what happened??? we started pretty strong.
the female couple was basically useless. no screen time at all no chemistry no nothing. the actresses were together in the show candy and they're actually pretty good so i think the creators of the show just fumbled unbelievably. and the secondary couple just seemed predatory.
i wish they cut all the side character romances out and just focussed on the main couple tbh. if they focussed in on them i think they could've made something good. its a shame it all became so messy.

Armageddon???
It was okay. Just okay. Meh.I mean, there's nothing new about the story. A dying bad boy falls in love with the introverted nerd in class. He'll do anything for the one he loves. Then we have the older brother, who was cast out by his homophobic father because he's gay... only for the father to turn out to be gay too. And of course, we get the dramatic sacrifice at the end where one chooses to stay away just to save the other.
See? It's fine, but nothing new. Nothing that made me go, "Wow."
Now, the ending... what exactly were they trying to give us? An open ending? Honestly, I'd rather they both died because of that comet. 😂
Speaking of which... what was the point of the comet? One moment we're dealing with terminal cancer. Then we're dealing with a homophobic father, which is already a familiar plot. Then suddenly... a comet? Are we in Armageddon now? 😭
And lastly... I have to ask.
What was the thought process behind that opening sequence? You know, the one where they're standing against a black background while it's raining, dramatically reciting quotes? I was so confused. 😂

Illogical Plot Convenience over Realism... What a disappointment after a few great early episodes
Subjective Gut Rating: 6.75I was hesitant at first to watch a teenager drama, but the first couple episodes are pretty good. Unfortunately, it went downhill mid-drama until the very last episode.
But let’s talk about the good. The best part of the drama is the romance between the main leads, Zang Wang and Xu Yuan. Zang Wang is a child missing his grandmother, and lacking parental love and attention. After a deadly medical diagnosis and continued lack of attention from his father, he went back to the small town he used to live with his grandmother. Those were the happy times, but his grandmother had passed away and he didn’t get to see her at all after he left 7 years ago. Xu Yuan is the typical poor student where he needs to take care of his mother and younger sister, working multiple jobs yet still a top student. What separates him from the cliche poor ML, is the cursed identity he has. He is the Prince of Misfortune, a jinx, where everyone despises and is wary of him. He’s lonely, tragic and has low self-esteem.
The development of their relationship from ‘enemies’ to lovers, started with Zang Wang sticking up for Xu Yuan whenever someone calls him a jinx and blames him for everything, is heartwarming to see. Them supporting, healing each other of their traumas is the best part of the drama. The acting is decent (though not great) but the emotions are conveyed well. It makes me believe in them slowly getting close to each other. It was not rushed and was developed organically throughout the whole drama.
Having said that, the execution of this romance can be better. The writing of different events happening in their lives are out of convenience instead of grounded in reality. In fact, the rest of the drama is full of plot holes, unrealistic subplots that I wonder if the screenwriters know what they want to do. Is this a healing teen love? Is this a sci-fi drama? A mafia drama with kids getting beat up and slashed by creditors? Is this a lakorn or family secrets and fighting with each other? It seems like it’s all of the above, and that’s the problem.
The older brother, Zhan Xu, is my least favorite character of the whole drama. First of all, the acting from Yu Qi is not good. He has this blank stare for most of the drama. Additionally, a dentist with his own practice is a part-time school doctor/nurse? Who in the right mind would hire someone like that? The secondary romance is also not my favorite. It’s unprofessional from the start, even before Bian Ye has feelings for Zhan Yu. The adult here is manipulative and a little predatory, even if Bian Ye is 19 years old and not 17, he’s still a student.
It seems like there’s no law enforcement, firefighters, or any government officials living on that island. They don’t show up when kids are getting beat up, or even when a meteorite is about to destroy the island. Not only are our teen MLs street fighters, they also act as surgeons/doctors who can stitch up a major slash to the stomach at home with a fish hook and thread, AND then go ahead and get sexy in bed right after. They are also tattoo artists as well when they are having some intimate time. We have so many multi-talented people in this drama!
And the last episode? Well…… I guess viewers will need to interpret that yourself. It doesn’t make sense at all. How does sacrificing oneself in the event of a major disaster help with someone suffering medically? I will just remember the final montage of their Zang Wang and Xu Yuan’s relationship and hold that close to my heart. It was a lovely montage of everything happens between them, and that’s the strength of the drama.
I am not sure if I would recommend this drama. There isn’t enough good to offset the bad. The acting is ok, the production is low budget, the plot is not well-written or executed. I would have liked to see the drama focuses more on the main leads' healing and relationship + ML's family and disapproval of his father, his father's cowardice, and forget about the half-baked possible GL and secondary romance (or at least write the romance better). I only like the main romance and a couple songs.

Lost Potential
I waited every week for this show with great anticipation. Then came the finale. What even was that?!? The twist about the dad made complete sense but the way he did a complete 180 so quickly made absolutely NO sense. It was at this moment that I KNEW the rest of the plot was going to seem rushed. Unfortunatelu, I was wrong because nothing was rushed, because nothing was wrapped up. None of the major plot points were completed and honestly I feel no type of satisfaction from the finale at all. I actually thought I accidentally skipped back to a previous episode they way the scene changed up and then the episode just ended. It didn’t even leave me anticipating a second season if I’m being honest, which is hard to do because I pretty much want a second season of every BL I ever watch. Maybe my opinion will change later after I’ve had more time to digest it all but the more I continue to write now, the more disappointed I become. Was this review helpful to you?
Abrupt story flow but still 10/10 because of Main couple
Loved it so much personally because I love “Slice of Life” type soft and calm, puppy love type of innocence rather than toxic, over the top plotline. This series ticked all the right parts for me. I didn’t quite like some parts but if we focus on main couple then everything is just 10/10. The ending could’ve been better but if they planning for Season 2 then I’m happy with the current ending.YiCheng99!!

could have been amazing (watch suggestions)
Overall: the two leads had chemistry, too bad cliche writing got in the way (what on earth was that finale??!!!) 12 episodes about 33 minutes each. Aired on GagaOOLala https://www.gagaoolala.com/en/videos/7275/lost-to-you-2026-e01 (not in Korea or Japan)Watch Suggestions (takes out most content warnings, love rivals and poor communication)
- episode 1 watch 15:30-21 and 21:30-end
- episode 2 watch 14:45-end
- stop episode 6 at 23:50
- episode 7 watch 19:50-22:20
- skip episode 8
- watch episode 9
- episode 10 watch 18:30-22:10
- skip episodes 11 & 12
Content Warnings: coercion, punch, past (child abuse, violence, blood, homophobia, death), bullying, unwanted public outing, homophobia, fight, blood, maybe death at the end (what was that???)
What I Liked
- chemistry
- intimacy
- visuals
- character growth from the 1 ML
- supportive sister
- I was okay with the student/school doctor romance, they said he was 19 and I liked how the younger guy stood up for their relationship
Room For Improvement
- not a fan of bullying from the ML, though it didn't last too long
- cliche evil woman (but then she suddenly wasn't and they were maybe trying to do some GL???)
- another love rival
- near drowning in water he could have stood up in
- bad communication trope
- sudden dad redemption arc
- bizarre finale that left it up to the audience to decide what happened and then had an extended scene from an earlier episode at the end

This Drama Broke Me Before It Even Ended… Hats Off to the Madness of Chinese BL!
I’m honestly scared… I feel genuinely depressed just thinking about the ending of this ICONIC drama. I’m completely obsessed with it right now—like, I can’t get enough. The plot, for the most part, is solid if you overlook a few minor flaws, and overall, it was absolutely worth watching. But at this point, I don’t think I can handle a sad ending… not after everything it has already put me through.
From the very beginning, this drama has been emotionally overwhelming. It made me cry in so many scenes that I lost count. Watching two pure souls suffer because of such a judgmental world was just heartbreaking. And yet, somehow, the bond they built through all those hardships feels even deeper, even more real.
Relationships forged through pain just hit differently…
Overall, I truly loved it. It was an unforgettable experience—such a GREAT watch, honestly. ✨💔

Meh
China is making a lot of bls lately too bad I already moved on from watching bls, I prefer reading manhwas. I find bl dramas too boring too fluffy for my liking. This one seems ok just not my cup of tea I guess. I found it hard to root for the main pair.
One thing that annoys is every mc somehow has to be poor and struggling wth 🤦 why can’t we ever have an mc that filthy rich and doesn’t need to be a charity case for the ml?
Also who the hell works their ass off to afford to pay for expensive acting classes for their younger sister? 😂 I’m sorry you can call me mean but I couldn’t feel sorry for the mc. All that hard work at the dork just to pay for acting classes 😅
I wish it was toxic at least maybe then I could continue hate watching it

A série é bem envolvente. Com drama e muito amor envolvido. Essa é aquela série no qual precisamos prestar bem atenção para entender o final dela. Uma pena que acabou, queria muito mais. Aliás, teve só uma coisa no qual achei desnecessário. O pai do Zhan aparecer. Foi um personagem no qual alterou nada na história. Simplesmente, só mostrou o quanto Zhan e Xu Yuan se ama muito e estava preparados para enfrentar tudo que o que viessem pela frente. O amor deles só fortalecia desde início. Was this review helpful to you?
