At least he can sing beautifully...
Another chinese BL, another more or less 08/15 story. The tropé from childhood best friend, the felt betrayal of his best friend to lover... And of course a love-triangle where the now best friend has to accept that he isn't the choosen one.The only outstanding feature is the singing voice... omg it's so so so so nice. But just singing is not bringing this series to life. While the chemistry was good, the performance was just ok and depending on the scene sometimes good. But not really good or stellar. The plot was quite cliché in a bad way, with the typical bad boys bully a innocent orphan boy who suffers from it tremendously.
Production quality was very well done, even the kissing was nice, but I did not really feel involved. It's good that we had not to wait for a week per episode. On the other hand the theme song was repeated all over the place were another song or just another arrangement of the song would have been so much better. Subtitles struggled with him/her, so it seems it was not corrected by someone who can speak english well.
This was an "ok" show. It's not bad, it's not good, bonus points for his singing voice. If you have nothing to do or not know what to watch it's not the worst choice you could have.

From Childhood Friends to Lovers in Adulthood
I'd rate Blazing Him a solid 8.5/10. It is one of those underrated Chinese BL dramas that quietly captures your heart without relying on unnecessary drama. I stumbled across it on YouTube, where it is available to watch for free, and the first four episodes immediately drew me in.The story follows music producer Jing An, who unexpectedly reunites with XingYao, a gifted yet withdrawn singer who has spent years hiding behind a mask. What Jing An does not realize at first is that the mysterious voice he has been searching for all these years belongs to his own childhood friend. As old misunderstandings fade, they slowly reconnect through music, giving each other a second chance that neither of them expected.
XingYao is such a heartbreaking character. After losing his parents and enduring years of bullying, he carries deep emotional scars that have left him fearful and isolated. He even hides his face whenever he sings, as if protecting the only part of himself he still believes is worth keeping. His voice is absolutely beautiful. I do not understand Chinese, yet every song is filled with so much emotion that the language never becomes a barrier. You can truly feel every note he sings.
I also liked the roommate who looked after XingYao and eventually fell in love with him. Although his feelings were not returned because Xing Yao only saw him as family, it created an emotional love triangle without feeling overly dramatic or forced.
What touched me the most is how Jing An becomes the light that slowly reaches Xing Yao's darkest moments. Xing Yao had almost given up on his dream of singing because of the pain he carried, but Jing An never stopped believing in him. Their relationship is not rushed. It grows through patience, understanding, and healing, making every moment between them feel genuine.
The romantic moments between them are beautifully done. Their kiss scenes are soft, gentle, and full of emotion rather than feeling forced. Even the intimate scenes are filmed with warmth and tenderness, perfectly matching the tone of the story. More than anything, the chemistry between the two leads feels natural and effortless, making it easy to believe in their journey from childhood friends to lovers.
It is a beautiful, gentle BL with a simple story that focuses on healing, music, and finding hope again. Not every romance needs a complicated plot to leave an impact. Sometimes a quiet story told with sincerity is more than enough. Blazing Him deserves far more attention. If you enjoy childhood friends reunited years later, healing romance, and music that speaks straight to the heart, this is definitely worth watching. You will not regret it.

Where is the pulse?
There is nothing here that is a must see.Same formula. Turning the best friend into an enemy to make the new guy favorable.
Normal acting bordering on lackluster. ML actor lifeless even when he is happy.
Serene plot. Predictable. Best friend who knew him for years doesn't reach / know / help him as the one who the ml has always loved.
I won’t hold the budget against it but it showed and the acting didn't make it any better.
The best part is that it was only 8 ep at 20 min. It is not horrible it was just boring. There was no dimension to the XXY and it made the story suffer. He didn't have romantic feelings for his best friend, which is fine, but was content to live off of him for years due to his trauma. Meets Jing An again and decides to finally do what his best friend has been trying to get him to do for years. Throw in the bullies and that's the script.
Recently China has shown what it can accomplish, this should not be held against them. It just needed a pulse.

Finally!!! CBL with a non-toxic green flag ML!!!
I think Gao from RL is the only green flag ML I have seen in CBLs. This is my 1st time seeing a green flag top as the ML. I watching this drama expecting him to be a red flag but bro turned out to be the chinese version of Prapai from LITA. I absolutely loved Jing An. His acting and his character was perfect. The story was also pretty good with some minor flaws. For me the major issue was with Xing Yao's acting. He nailed the sections where he had to seem numb and expressionless but then failed when it came to expressing his trauma and many other scenes. So both actors were going on 2 absolutely different wavelengths. For instance, XY's past is revealed JAs eyes are filled with fear and tears. He's hugging XY like he doesn't wanna lose him and he's helpless n hurting for him which was done well. But then XY is crying and shivering but then it didn't give trauma it gave faking cold. So yeah, that happened in multiple places.JA is my fav character. I usually don't mind weak characters but XY and his friend weren't my fav. Ngl i kinda felt XY used his friend and later left him once he had JA to back him up. He didn't try to make up or anything. Especially when the person on the other side is you're bff who protected u and took care of u all your life. The friend wasn't a saint either. I totally get why XY didn't choose him. He did care for him but then he also kept looking down on him instead of helping him cope he kept asking him to give up on music n find a real job... n yeah how the hell can he tell the bullies where he was and what he was doing🙄
Overall it's good not the best but binge watchable

Execution failed a bit.
This wasn't a bad drama, but it wasn't great either. It had a good story, but it was brought a bit messy, the story didn't flow. The music and visuals were good.
Though the acting wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. The actors felt inexperienced and the acting felt flat and rehearsed at moments.
The mains had a bit of chemistry and the kisses were ok.
This isn't a bad watch, bit don't expect too much of it.

Against the Grain in China
It's been an interesting time watching China emerge like a phoenix to become one of the power houses in BL production. Equally, its been a concern to see how the majority of the stories told have had toxic plots, toxic characters or both. Specifically, stories coming out of China. Why is that okay as a reputation? This is why I was moved by this series which features broken human beings trying to live day by day. People with traumatic backgrounds, with anxiety and unmentionable amounts of pain.
The story hasnt reached its conclusion by the time this is written, but the series needed a small celebration from its audience for going against the grain for once. None of the leads are trying to outwit and outsmart each other. Instead, they're trying to reach out to each other without knowing how that could trigger a reaction, but because they're driven by love and affection, they keep trying anyway.
Highly recommend this series if you're into soft, gentle love stories talking about overcoming life's difficult challenges ✨️👌💛

Devoted Boy and Traumatized Boy
Overall: it was okay, wish they had changed a few aspects, I gave this an indie bump. 8 episodes about 22 minutes each. Aired on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGhgHW5zMDP9SFi2t7RbI-ItEK57Q5-o2Content Warnings: past death, past bullying, past rape (skip episode 7 5m45s to 14min), past & present mental health struggles, sexual assault, punch
What I Liked
- a character cleared up the miscommunication in episode 3
- caring moments
- singing voice
- a trash character received consequences
Room For Improvement
- the timeline didn't make sense, characters looked like they were 10 in the past but a character lost touch right away for events that happened 4 years later???
- the CEO dude was hot and cold
- terrible that he didn't stop (especially when he knew his past) when a singer said he didn't want to
- the 'love heals all trauma' trope
