I started watching this movie since I had it on my laptop for a long time but never got around to watching it until a boring Saturday where I had nothing better to do. The story is rather unique and I surprisingly felt emphatic towards both the antagonist and the protagonist. The acting was superb, the music was alright. Overall it's a decent movie for a boring Saturday.
I hoped for Detective Dee to hit the foreign movie theatres where I live, but it didn't so I had to wait. It was worth it. I will admit I do enjoy Andy Lau. Rarely has he had a performance in a movie that I didn't find fantastic even if the movie was so-so. Detective Dee was like an ancient Chinese Sherlock Holmes surrounded by magic and the supernatural. The story was fairly original and anime like. I can easily see a movie series for the character. In fact I look forward to it. overall: 8.5
