Oyamada Akiko discovers that she has cancer while she is pregnant. Should she deliver her child? Or should she put her own self first? Her mother Mitsuko opposes the birth of the child because of this. A fierce quarrel between mother and daughter ensues, but Akiko says she chooses to be a mother. She has a strong desire to be like her mother too because she loves her. Finding out her daughter’s thoughts, Mitsuko complains that Akiko is a fool even though she supports her. On the other hand, Mitsuko cannot forgive Ryota for not stopping his wife. The relationship between mother-in-law and son-in-law grows more hostile and Akiko struggles to bring the two of them together. Akiko safely delivers a baby girl, Yuria, but what awaits her is the pronouncement that she does not have much time life. And so, she decides to leave messages to her daughter with the time that she has left. By the time she realises it, she has put together words that her own mother said to her. Thinking about her mother’s feelings at the time, the letters to her daughter cause Akiko to reflect on her ties with Mitsuko that formed before she realised it. Akiko tries to publish these letters as a book, not listening to the protests of the people around her. When she cannot move her hand, she even records her voice on tape … … This is a mother’s deep heartrending love for a daughter that she has to leave behind. Edit Translation
