Jin Uk is serving a life sentence and has long since stopped regretting the choices that led him there. However, his outlook begins to change when he meets Yeon Su, a woman volunteering in a prison rehabilitation program. Gradually, he opens his heart to her kindness. Not long after, Jin Uk learns that he is terminally ill and is granted an early release. Hoping to reconnect with Yeon Su, he seeks her out, only to discover that her life is far from what he imagined. Trapped in an abusive marriage, Yeon Su hides her difficult circumstances and avoids Jin Uk out of shame. But despite her efforts to push him away, he continues to return to her side. This drama special was heartbreaking and yet hopeful. I find it beautiful when two very damaged and broken people find each other and slowly help one another heal. This reminded me a bit of the manga Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan in which a woman visits a prison and meets an inmate and they have a long discussion that helps them both confront their emotional scars. The acting from both leads was great and the story was good.
