Jeon Do-yeon as Lee Shin-ae goes through an enormous amount of pain. We are introduced to someone that misses her deceased husband but has passed the stage of agony, only for it to come back when another death comes her way, in a truly tragic way. And we bear witness to the process. Grief. Raw, ugly grief that comes in all different ways. Mostly ways in which were uncomfortable to watch, physically harmful for those involved and, occasionally, amusing in its own sort of way (specifically due to the irony of the situation). Alongside her is the cheerful and helpful Kim Jong-chan (Song Kang-ho), acting as the good samaritan. He, too, goes through some changes of his own. His intentions are very self centred but he too finds peace in God, more so than Shin-ae could, despite her best attempts and in the end chooses to be the good guy and not take advantage of a deeply depressed, grieving mother. There isn’t a lot of joy in Secret Sunshine. There is an endless wave of hurt and visceral emotion, the kind that gets stuck in your throat and you’re in pain at the mere thought of. But there is some solace in the ending. Because despite everything, there is light at the end of the tunnel. No matter how you interpret something as simple as the rays of sunshine.

.

A movie about a tragedy. About a mother who lost her child. About healing and forgiveness. And about how a person can hold on with all his might, but as a result, break down thoroughly.

This is the strongest mental pain that a mother can experience. A mother who has lost her child will never be healed, no matter how. Nevertheless, this movie shows how in the church she poured out all the pain and despair that lurked in her heart and hurt and pressed so much. She was healed. I found faith in the Lord and received the Holy Spirit. I didn't shed a single tear at the funeral, but everything came out in the church. It just shows how much it hurt.

The film also shows that faith in the Lord cannot heal cleanly. The pain will become easier to bear, but it won't go away. And it can even become much stronger and break you completely.

This is clearly visible in the scene of the meeting with the prisoner, when she saw that he had found peace and tranquility. I'm almost sure that she sincerely wanted him to suffer from the offense he had committed. And it is also shown in the scene when she came to the church and began to take out her anger and despair. And in the scene, when she expresses her pain and strong despair to the believers at home. In the scene when she came to the meeting of believers and turned on the music, she essentially gave up her faith.

Against the background of all this, she developed PTSD and began hallucinations - both visual and auditory. Became mentally and emotionally unstable.

The man who helped the main character in everything is a good man, worthy of respect. It's good to have such a person around.

At the end of the movie, she cuts her hair - it's like a symbol that she started a new life.

Incredibly deep and heavy movie.
