How To Survive: A Drama Dry Spell
So you've entered the rabbit hole, the wasteland, limbo even.
It happens to the best and most avid drama fans out there and could last for a day/week/month/...year (shiver)
So what do you do?
Do you try to wait it out or like writer's block try and seek an inspiration to get you going?
Well I have compiled a list of things I do to hopefully help either, keep your drama addiction at bay while you try and find your next crack drama, or hopefully jump start you out of it.
1. Watch an old favourite.
We all have those dramas that we have watched countless times and love to our heart's content. Maybe you should try to re-watch a few to get you back into that feeling of loving dramas again, or just to keep you busy whilst waiting for a new drama to debut.
2. Watch or even create MV’s of dramas
You know the dramas that have flown under your radar or have been sitting on your plan to watch list. How about you hop onto YouTube or any other video portal and watch a few MV’s to tingle your taste buds? By watching the scenes in short bursts rather than the promos, it may give you more info on the flavour of the drama. Many times I have watched MV’s for previously viewed or waiting list dramas and gone ‘Gah I need to watch it right now! Too many feels!’
3. Listen to OSTs
Sometimes just listening to an OST or the opening/closing credits from a drama can take you straight back again. I know every time I hear ‘Tell me something I don’t know,' the opening of My Lucky Star, I get sent straight back to the fangirl inside me. Music plays a very important part in dramas; who can forget ‘Almost Paradise’ blaring out every time Jan Di and Jun Pyo just even looked at each other!
4. Stalking
No, not that kind of stalking, I mean the kind where you stalk out every NG reel, behind the scenes clip, interviews, reviews, news, etc. about a recently watched/loved or up-coming drama. Anything to keep you in the loop. This could be on MDL forums, tumblr, or other drama sites. I like to find gifs or funny images of my favorite dramas just to keep me from falling out of the drama universe.
5. Quick Movie Fix
To tide yourself over why not try a movie? If you have a few hours you want to fill but you are up-to-date with all of your airing episodes, a movie can be a good solution. They aren't a permanent replacement but for a couple of hours you can indulge yourself in a situation similar to watching dramas but in a ¼ of the time.
6. Become an explorer
This website has a massive collection of dramas. If you are really struggling to find something to watch or you just don’t fancy what’s out now, why not try a blast from the past? You can select based on year, genre, or popularity. So why not check out the Top 50+ or random dramas from a certain genre/year/country and see if any take your fancy. Alternatively, you could try the forums to see if anyone mentions a drama that you haven't think about.
7. Try searching outside of your preferred genre
I hope that this helped and you now look like this:
If you have anything different with how you keep yourself sane during this difficult time, post it below! Help a fellow drama lover out :)
