Episode 8 Recap
Kang Chi is saved from execution by the Admiral who claims Kang Chi as his subordinate. Gwan Woong argues that Kang Chi is a murderer to which the Admiral asks why a retired Deputy Minister is interrogating a criminal (oh snap, apply ointment to burned area). Gwan Woong claims that he is a witness and that Kang Chi is a murderer. The Admiral states that Kang Chi killed someone that was guilty of treason, therefore he actually did nothing wrong. The Admiral says that that they should release Kang Chi or clear Lord Park of treason.

Kang Chi is acquitted, but he is not pleased. The Admiral tells him that Lord Park asked him to take care of Kang Chi and this course was the only way to save him. Kang Chi says that he doesn’t want to be known as the murderer of his father and Savior. He wants to kill everyone that wronged him and then take his own life. Kang Chi admits that since he is not human, life means very little to him. The Admiral gives him 3 coins and tells him that he has one day to give one to someone he wants to say goodbye to. Kang Chi must then return to see the Admiral at the Naval facility.

Kang Chi leaves as Gwan Woong, the sheriff and the Admiral watch. The Sheriff asks Satan if it’s okay for Kang Chi to leave and he replies that everything is fine because of the Letter of Commitment. Earlier, Gwan Woong and the Admiral had met and Gwan Woong had the Amiral sign the letter to take responsibility for Kang Chi’s actions after his release. Gwan Woong warns that if Kang Chi causes any problems that he will be executed immediately and the Admiral will have to resign.

He then asks if the hypnosis was successful. Tae Seo is sleeping uneasy and we get a flashback of him after he was tortured and still strapped to the chair. Gwan Woong’s head minion walks up and hypnotizes him to believe that Kang Chi killed his father. Tae Seo then stumbles out of his room remembering his sister and mother crying out for him-he then begins angrily screaming Kang Chi’s name.

She replies that she keeping track of him in case he decides to act recklessly. He questions what she would do if he did go after Gwan Woong and she replies that she would stop him. He keeps walking and she asks him about the promise he made with the Admiral. He asks if promises are made between people to which Yeo Wool replies yes and Kang Chi answers that he is not longer human.

A group of angry townspeople have gathered around and begin yelling at Kang Chi. They want him to leave the village and began throwing things at him. Yeo Wool stands in front of Kang Chi and tells the people that it was all a misunderstanding. They accuse her of being on his side and being a bad person and continue throwing food. Kang Chi grabs her arm and pulls her away from the crowd. She says it’s all a misunderstanding and it will eventually be cleared. Kang Chi is skeptical and says that he may have to live the rest of his life like this, known as Lord Park’s murderer. He tells her to go but she says put and tells him that Cheong Jo is at the Gisaeng house-the person he wants to see the most.

Cheong Jo is at the Gisaeng house and is being taught proper liquor etiquette. The gisaengs-in-training are instructed to pour the liquor but Cheong Jo doesn’t move. Wol Sun orders her to pour the alcohol and Cheong Jo finally does. The gisaengs-in-training are then told to drink the liquor. Wol Sun tells them that she set time aside to teach them how to drink alcohol properly, something that is not usually taught.  She tells them to drink the whole bowl in one shot without missing a single drop and to not make facial expressions after finishing. The other girls drink but Cheong Jo just sits and stares at the bowl.

The gisaengs laugh but Wol Sun stops when she notices Cheong Jo. Wol Sun orders her to drink it but Cheong Jo refuses saying that she does not find this kind of joke amusing. Wol Sun states that she is afraid that the liquor is too strong so she asks the other gisaengs to help. The gisaengs then take turns spitting into Cheong Jo’s bowl. Wol Sun then places the bowl in front of Cheong Jo and tells her that it should be milder now. Wol Sun tells her that as long as she wears a gisaeng skirt she should be prepared to learn to sell her body and alcohol. She asks Cheong Jo if she wants to learn how to remove her undergarment in front of a man and Cheong Jo throws the bowl of liquor in her face. Wol Sun yells at her and then all the other gisaengs come over and begin beating her.

Cheong Jo and the other gisaengs are in the Soo Ryun’s room and she asks who started it. The other gisaengs place the blame on Cheong Jo. Sun Wol says that they were just taking a break and she wanted the girl to drink to relieve their chapped lips. Soo Ryun asks Cheong Jo is that is true but she stays silent. Soo Ryun asks for a tree branch and then tells Cheong Jo to reveal her calves. She then uses the tree branch to repeatedly hit Cheong Jo’s calves.

Kang Chi forcibly walks into the gisaeng house and goes into Soo Ryun’s room. He ignores Soo Ryun’s questions and takes Cheoung Jo’s hand. Soo Ryun yells at him to stop and let go of her hand. Kang Chi says she’s not someone who is supposed to be here and takes Cheong Jo out of the room. They make it to the courtyard when they are stopped by the guards and servants of the gisaeng house.

Soo Run and the other gisaengs walk out and she warns him that if he takes Cheong Jo away from here that neither one of them will be safe. Kang Chi assures her that he will keep her safe. Soo Ryun also says that they will have to live on the run forever and struggle to survive. She  again tells Kang Chi to let go of her hand and leave quietly. Kang Chi holds her hand tighter and says he won’t let her go. Kang Chi tells her again that he will keep her safe and to believe in him-she then pulls her hand out of his (Aaaahhh, why Jo? Why? My ship has sprung a leak). She tells him to go and clear her father’s name and then come back and get her.

Kang Chi goes into Gwan Woong’s room and asks him if he remembers asking Kang Chi to be one of his people and that he has come to give his answer. Kang Chi takes the broken broom and stabs it into the table in front of Gwan Woong and breaks it. Kang Chi says he will take back the 100 Year Inn and take his life as well and that is his answer. The servants are outside waiting for Kang Chi, he tells them that he will return with Tae Seo and Cheong Jo and asks them to take good care of the 100 Year Inn.

The Admiral hears of Kang Chi breaking into the 100 Year Inn and goes to investigate the matter. Gwan Woong shows him the broken broom still implanted in the desk and tells him that only Kang Chi could have committed this type of atrocity. The Admiral asks if he is sure Kang Chi is the culprit to which Gwan Woong replies that no one else could have done this. Gwan Woong gather all the servants to testify that Kang Chi was there but they all answer that they haven’t seen him. Of course this bravery does not come without a price and three of the servants are harshly punished.

The Admiral asks if he had given away all the coins to those he wanted to say farewell to. Kang Chi responds that he wants to put his goodbyes off for the time being to clear Lord Park’s name, to take back the 100 Year Inn and become human. The Admiral says that he has seen countless people born as human but acted even worse than beasts and your origins don’t give you the right to call yourself human but your heart.

The Admiral asks if there is a way for him to become human and Kang Chi answers that the Gu Family Book contains the answer. It flashes back to So Jung telling Kang Chi about the Gu Family Book and how it is impossible for Kang Chi to become human because his father failed to. So Jung tells him that he will help him find it if he is able to become strong enough to control his emotions and stay in human form. The Admiral asks Pyeong Joon to let Kang Chi join the martial arts academy. Kang Chi asks Pyeong Joon to take care of him and teach him how to not lose himself when not wearing the bracelet.

Kang Chi asks the Admiral what would have happened if he hadn’t brought the coins back and had taken Gwan Woong’s life.  The Admiral answers that without hesitation he would have slit his throat. He goes on to say that a person who doesn’t value his own life does not know how to value anything else.  Cheong Jo receives some ointment that Kang Chi left for her and she looks longingly at the bottle. Yeo Wool and Kang Chi argue and joke around on the way to the martial arts academy while So Jung watches with a worried expression.

COMMENTS:
Goliath1357:
My ship has officially sunk-I was really annoyed by Cheung Jo and her complete lack of faith and trust in Kang Chi. I knew that there was build-up to making her less likable so that Kang Chi falls for Yeo Wool but I fear that is one ship that I can never board. The only thing keeping me going is Lee Seung Gi, I am not really liking any of the other characters that much. I really hate doppelganger and hypnosis storylines so I’m not really thrilled with the Tae Seo’s current storyline.  Kang Chi has got to take that bracelet off and transform or he will die-there’s no way he could survive that wound otherwise. And another thing that I would just like to point out is that this is not a gender bender-Yeo Wool is not pretending to be male although she tries to hide the fact that she’s female while on missions. A lot of people know that she is female and when they think otherwise she has corrected them except for Kang Chi. He’s just dumb and thinks she’s a boy and for some reason she hasn’t told him.

Largarza:
I cant believe everyone just ignored Tae Seo stumbling around with a sword. Doesn't that look suspicious? Poor Kang Chi. As for Cheung Jo what is she thinking? I think the innocent girl Kang Chi thinks he loves is disappearing. Self sacrificing? Maybe, but not sure what she is planning. Perhaps she will turn into someone like the head gisaeng. At least the relationship between Kang Chi and Yeo Wool is finally starting to grow here even if it looks like it will still take awhile before he sees her as a WOman. I like more romance in a plot so disappointed none really happening yet. Hopefully now that they will spend more time together things change.  They can lead the show to more awesomeness.
