Anime That Should Be Made into Drama: Pt. 2
Ok before I begin part 2 I’d like to thank you all for the comments on the last article Smile such a nice bunch of people XD
And little warning that this will be a long article again.
Ok so starting off the list is...
Naruto:
Ok now I’ll be honest here I haven’t actually watched much of Naruto I only watched a few eps from the first season when it was on TV when I was younger BUT! I still think it would be an interesting adaption if made into a drama, although it could also be one of those dramas than can go drastically wrong too. I mean it is ninjas kicking butt and defeating evil so it’s not a very original it has been done in similar ways in dramaland before. Personally I think it would be better as a film but then going on how long the anime is I don’t think they could fit it into one film so may be 3-4 films? I have seen a sort of live action adaption of this anime but it was a fanmade one which actually wasn’t too bad it was enjoyable to watch but you could really tell it was a fanmade one and that they had a low budget but it worked . As for what country makes this into a drama/film I’d say japan seeing as ninjas are their thing and also there are many ninja films out there by them that are great but overall I don’t mind. Also if it was made into a live action I cant begin to imagine how many episodes it would be :/
Next is...
Kuroshitsuji aka Black Butler:
Now once again I never got around to finishing this anime but I watched most of it and loved it. Thankfully this anime has been made into a film but sadly it doesn’t really follow the anime (it’s set 100 years later) but it still has a butler and the hot Mizuhima as the butler *fan girl screams* so glad to see him back on screen. But what I really hope is that after the film is released that they think about making it into a drama and actually following the anime storyline. For which country that makes it I’m thinking japan but don't mind really who does. For cast I’m thinking...
Hiro Mizushima as Sebastian. He's a great actor and after watching trailers for the film (in which he takes on the same role), he seems to play the role well. Plus, in another of his dramas, he played a butler and I loved it!
Yuya Matsushita as Ciel. I have seen clips of him playing this role in the Black Butler musical and he did great. This is why I wish to see what he would be like playing the role in a drama version. Plus looking at him, I’m curious as to how he’d look and play the role when Ciel dresses up lolita style (pedo alert XD)
Kamisama Hajimemashita
This anime is a more recent one and I came across it by accident. Right from the start, I loved it and found myself waiting each week for the subs to come out. I found it to be cute short and sweet but I do wish for more of a romance between the main characters, although it is clear that something is there but hidden away ~sigh~ its always the same, sometimes I just wish people would just say how they feel honestly it would save a lot of time and faffing about..... ok rant over. Now if this is made into a drama what would interest me is how they’d go about making the demons, but then again they managed to make xxxholic into a live action so why not this one now I’d prefer if japan made this into a live action. As for cast...
Nishiuchi Mariya as Nanami. I loved her acting in Switch Girl and Switch Girl 2. I also love her in her most recent drama. I chose her because I think she looks like the character and I’d like to see her play a sort of different character that what she normally does. On the other hand, Nanami does have similarities to her other roles (the random moments of panic etc)
Yamapi as Tomoe. I love this guy I chose him because I feel like he could play the role well in that Tomoe is a seemingly cold character but also has his random moments (like when he gets protective of Nanami) so I feel after seeing Yamapi in Kurosagi and then Nobuta wo Produce I believe he pull of this character plus I’d love to see him with cat ears.
Samurai Champloo
Now I watched this drama a while back and loved it but if made into a drama it would definitely be one for a more mature audience in that the language and also sometimes sexual mentions throughout. But it would probably be alright with a 15 rating. For those who don’t know this drama is about a young girl (Fuu) who tries to find the samurai who smells like sunflowers which is her father so she enlists the help of two samurai (Jin and Mugen) who happen to become involved with her after a series of incidents and so they embark on an adventure together getting into lots of fights and trouble as they go along. As for who the cast would be I’m clueless but who ever acts as the Fuu will need to act tough and stubborn well as well as slightly dim witted and whoever acts as Mugen will also need to be quite stubborn and rebel like but whoever plays Jin will need to be able to act calm and collected with intellect. As for what country I don’t mind.
Howl's Moving Castle
Now bear with me here, I know most of you are probably thinking that this would be a mistake and to be honest I agree with you, part of me thinks that if this was made into a live action it would become Disneyfied or just a complete mess I mean it probably wouldn’t be as magical but I just loved this film. Hayao Miyazaki is a genius! All his films are masterpieces. Still, the other part of me thinks this would be a wonderful live action film just because of how magical it is and the general storyline. As to how this would go as a live action and how they would pull it off I don’t know I mean with all the magic and fantasy stuff you would need a pretty big budget which is why this on my list is sadly one of those anime that will never be adapted but it’s worth thinking about it.
Blood+
Now this anime to me was great, it was certainly different to what I usually watch but I loved it and well fell in love with Haji. There is a film called blood the last vampire which does have a similar storyline to this anime in that a young girl saya who is a vampire is hired by the government to hunt demons but the anime goes in a different direction and has more romance and family to it. If this was made into a drama I don’t think it would be too bad the only thing I’m struggling to think about is how they would go about animated/acting out the demons, I’m thinking you could either CGI it but then you could also have costumes too, maybe even combine the two to make it more realistic. As for which country makes this I’m unsure but I’m thinking Korean? and casting...
Park Shin Hye as Saya, the young girl who suddenly finds out that she is a vampire. She is also the only one who can defeat the demons by using her blood. I really want to see Shin Hye play this role as I feel she can pull off the ‘human’ side to Saya which is innocent and sweet but I’m unsure about her playing out the tougher demon ass kicking side to her but id really like to see her play out this kind of role as I’m yet to see her play a character that is ‘tough’.
Kim Jae Wook as Haji, the forever loyal servant and lover to Saya. As I stated before, I love haji XD and I feel that Kim Jae Wook not only looks like this character, but I feel he could portray Haji well, in that Haji is a seemingly distant and calm character. Though, when it comes to protecting Saya he is willing to do anything and I feel that Jae Wook's character from Mary Stayed Out All Night is similar.
Card Captor Sakura
Now this anime brings back so many memories of getting up early before school to watch it and running home to watch it XD I loved it when I was like 8 years old. Now I know some of you are thinking why make this into a drama and really I agree with you, it may not be a drama as such for us but I’m thinking if this was made into a live action it would be for kids audience and something like the power rangers but the funny thing is if it was made into that id still watch it XD I have no idea who would be in the cast for this (my knowledge of young Japanese actors in 0 ) but I think this would be better of as a Japanese children's show like power rangers.
Clannad
If I’m honest I never watched all of this anime, probably because it was hard to find English subs for it when I wanted to watch it, but I have seen many many fanmade MV’s from the anime and I love them plus other people tell me this anime is the bomb XD plus the after story too is just so cute. Plus I admit I have put off watching this anime now because I know its sad at the ending I don’t want to it and cry about it for ages. But anyways this SHOULD! be made into a drama it would be one of those amazing ones if done correctly plus the after story could be made into a spinoff series or a drama special. Now I’m clueless who would be cast in this drama and as to which country were to make it ...hmm hard to say i think Japan Taiwan or Korea would all do a pretty good job.
Shugo Chara
Hmm now this one I had to ponder over for a while and I’m still unsure how this could be made into a drama, I mean with the effects and CGI needed for the eggs and fairies it would be difficult to pull it off but other than that it is fairly do-able. Personally I just want to see what a live action Ikuto would look like *fan girl squeal* who doesn’t love him. For me though in the anime version I couldn’t get over the fact that Amu was only like 13 and Ikuto was 18..? but I loved their moments together and in terms of drama land the chemistry would work well. The manga itself did great being the 4th best seller and the anime being one of the 10 most watched on TV when it aired, which surely gives reason for it to be made into a live action? As to which country I’m unsure again.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya
Now this as a drama would certainly be a random but great one. I think this would be a great drama as well just because of how different the character's personalities are. But then its hard thinking how they would go about doing the effects although there aren’t too many, plus one scene I’d love to see live action is when they sing on stage. I feel that this would be better off if made into a Japanese drama in terms of the school setting and all, casting once again I’m clueless?
Tsubasa Chronicles
Now this is like the more grown up version of card captor Sakura, well it actually features the same characters but grown up several years later. But this time they embark on a different adventure, which is to find Sakura's feathers to recover her memories and to do this they must travel between different worlds and universes (featured in the anime is xxxholic witch and several other scenes from anime) This anime has the adventure romance and action as well as the comical moments between Fai and Kurogane. Personally I feel like this would be better off as a Japanese adaptation but once again I’m unsure about the special effects needed, although its no so detailed as other anime from above. Now for casting I’m unsure the only person i can think of is...
Yamamoto Yusuke as Fai, the wizard. Fai’s character is a happy go lucky guy who seems to be carefree but deep down has some dark secrets but most of the time he is seen to be smiling no matter the situation and just loves to tease Kurogane. The reason I think Yusuke can pull this off is because Fai’s character reminds me so much of Tamaki in Ouran High School Host Club and also Yusuke plays the role of happy go lucky guy who’s smiling so well (in other dramas too).
Kyo Kara Maoh
Now this anime was hilarious for some reason it reminded me of Hetalia. This anime is about a boy from the human world ( out world) who is one day transported to another world where he is the demon king who rules the land. In this anime I don’t think there was one character I didn’t love, they all have something that you can’t help but love about them and yes this anime was a bit of a bishounen so if made into a live action it would need pretty boys XD also the anime itself is a long one so in terms of drama it would probably be one of those ones that is at least 30 episodes if not more. Which country makes this anime I’m unsure but I’m feeling perhaps Korea?
Fushigi Yuugi
OMGG!!! I love this anime so much I’ve watched it sooo many times now over and over again but it truly is a classic masterpiece by Yuu Watase. Even though the anime was released when I was only a year old so it’s kind of an old anime but definitely one worth watching, I seriously recommend it to anyone. It has romance suspense mystery action adventure betrayal etc. It has all things really needed for a drama, if it was made into a live action you would not run out of material to make this interesting. Plus in this anime I have never loved and shipped a couple so much Miaka and Tamahome if a real life couple in a drama would be most loved I’m certain of it, they would be like secret garden couple...come to think of it to begin with the relationship is kinda' similar accept the other way round XD but this is no. 1 on my list for a live adaptation. Now if it was made it would be a looong drama like 40-50 eps maybe plus they can also do spinoffs or drama specials or a film for the other side stories/after stories. I’m thinking perhaps a Korean drama? if not Japanese? But one thing about this drama is once again the effects needed, although thinking about it they are fairly doable.
Hakushaku To Yousei
This anime was a cute one with a traditional old England setting and fantasy with a hint of romance. If this was to be a drama it would definitely be short one seeing as in Dramaland there is only so much material to keep you interested, so I hope if made into a live action they would not drag the story out. Once again seeing as this is a fantasy anime there are fairies and all sorts of magical creatures so I’m unsure how they would go about creating them, but the anime focuses more on the Lydia and Edgar unlocking the mystery to finding a legendary sword and of course the feelings between them slowly developing.
Full Moon Wo Sagashite
This was a cute anime about a young girl who is unwell but wishes so hard to be a singer, sadly she is visited by shinigami who tell her she only has one year left to live (kind hard when you are only 12) and so she asks for their help to let her live her dream of being a singer before she dies and so they do. With their help she transforms into a healthy 16 year old and signs a contract. This was one of those heartwarming and inspiring anime and so it would be good for a drama too also there aren’t many effects, I mean the shinigami look like normal people (minus the outfits) and her transforming into a 16 year old wouldn’t be too difficult either. I feel that this would be a good drama no matter what country makes it.
Escaflowne
Now this was also one of my first anime and I loved it, the whole idea of being taken to another world. This if made into a drama also faces the problem of effects I mean it has angels explosions giant mecha robots and a cat girl? but like before Japan made power rangers so how can they not pull off this, either that or transformers. I feel that cat girl would be hard to pull off. Also if made into a drama I feel they could change the ending and make it better, although I didn’t hate the anime ending I’d rather it be different. Personally I feel that Japan could do a good job with this anime.
Samurai 7
Once again this anime was different to what I usually watched, but after ep 1 I was hooked. I am aware there is an old film which also features 7 samurai who join together to fight bad which I haven’t seen but people have said its good. Now this anime is different in that its more futuristic with giant war machinery but it does follow the idea of 7 samurai working together to help defeat the enemy and restore peace. Personally I’d rather see this made into a film than a drama as it doesn’t have much material to go on long enough for a drama. I feel that this would be better made into a Japanese film.
Kare Kano
I’m actually surprised this hasn’t been made into a drama as its quite a popular theme in drama land. The theme being its set in a high school and the most popular girl and guy in school are both hiding their real selves and some dark secrets but surprise surprise they both find out that each other are fake and so to begin with tease each other about it but then slowly come to help each other out and tada~~ they fall in love. It’s a typical story and not too original going by today's standards but nevertheless it’s still a loveable and popular theme. For this drama I don’t mind which country makes it as all countries seem to do high school romance dramas well.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Now this has already been made into a film which I found great but it wasn’t the same as the anime, I think the film followed the original book/story more whereas the anime used the idea. I liked the anime more than the already live action film because of the romance and I dunno just did, although in both versions I hated the endings, more so the live action sad face but I would like to see the anime version made into a live action, although it would be probably a short film and more for younger audience. I think Japan should make this if not Korea for a change, they seem to like the time travel theme this year XD.
5cm Per Second
Now this was a great anime film I just loved how you saw the relationship between the characters throughout the years plus in terms of animation its just EPIC I mean the details and scenery in half the film just amazed me, I mean usually in anime it’s just plain but the artist went all out here this would if made into a live action would be better off as a film if not a series of episodes like 4 episodes where you saw the stages in their life i.e. ep 1 their relationship as 8 year olds etc once again I don’t mind which country makes this one but if they do I’d hope that as the scenery on the anime was amazing that they would use that in the live action version.
Peach Girl
Now this is also a favourite anime from when I was younger. It is your typical high school love story with love triangles here and there and the tensions and dramas too. Although I still never understand in dramas and anime like this how dramatic being in love at high school can be, anyone else think that? But anyway this anime definitely has a character that we will all come to hate, the typical bff that stabs her best friend in the back and betrays her in every way possible, stealing her best friends guy. i was aware that this was made into a live action drama by Taiwan and I was so excited about it, but then I watched it and its just so..soo well it made me cringe mainly because of the fashion sense and looks, but then again it was made like 10 years ago, sadly I gave up on watching it because of that. But now I hope that they do a modern version and I’m sure it would be great.
~Thanks for reading part 2 please let me know what you think whether its about the article cast or just which country should make the live action~
~On another note my new favourite word seems to be ‘now’ seeing how many times i used it to start a sentence in this article XD~
~Part 3 coming in the possible near future~
