SBS Drama Awards 2013
SBS and KBS held their awards’ ceremony on New Year’s Eve; one day after MBC or else many actors will be torn between the channels. I was quite disappointed with the nominations for SBS awards so I was already angry at the PDnims even before the winners were announced. I mean how on earth can they not nominate Empire of Gold’s full cast for the best acting? Hello! Go Soo and Son Hyun Joo had every right to get hold of awards this year and I can’t seem to forgive the fact that they weren’t even nominated. What kind of a bad joke is this? I wish that Korean broadcasting channels would give up the rule of: best rating dramas get all the awards; that’s lame.
Perhaps I am overreacting but I am pretty sure you know that ratings don’t reflect on how great the drama or the acting is. It doesn’t hurt to be a little objective. Well, I am sure the system won’t change anytime soon but it’s not a crime to try. Without any further delay, here are the winners of SBS this year:
Grand Prize and PD Award (chosen by PDs from KBS, SBS & MBC):
Lee Bo Young is on my black actors’ list and the main reason I did not watch I Hear Your Voice but she won the Daesang so she must be that good for everyone else but me. You can leave your comments about her or her acting if you like. As for me, I will retreat in silence; just a word for her record though: she does look pretty.
Special Award:
So he won an award for that drama; I know that everyone liked him in TWTWB but I found him overreacting in many scenes. I did love him too by the way; I just didn’t find him that extraordinary.
Top Excellence Actor (Mini-Series):
And just for fun:
Top Excellence Actress (Mini-Series):
Song Hye Kyo was pretty good in that drama but she didn’t show up for the ceremony since she was busy with shooting an upcoming film. (Did they really believe/invent that excuse? What kind of actor would be filming on New Year’s Eve?)
Top Excellence Actor (Mid-Length Drama), Popularity Award and Best Dressed:
Alright, hands down! Min Ho Won an award. Oh lord, I still can’t over the fact that Go Soo and Son Hyun Joo weren’t even nominated while he won an excellence awards. What’s wrong with the world? I can understand the popularity award though; he’s famous and eye-candy so it’s a given that he would get all the fans’ votes.
Just for the record, I didn’t see The Heirs so if any of you watched both Heirs and Empire of Gold, be my guest and convince me that he was better than Go Soo and So Hyun Joo then I will bite my own words. But I insist that you must have seen both!
It’s true that I didn’t watch Heirs but I saw the outfits he wore and heck no, that isn’t fashion!
Top Excellence Actress (Mid-Length Drama):
One of the fewest SBS awards that actually made sense. Yes! That’s how acting is supposed to be like. While I am still not okay with discarding her co-stars Go Soo and Son Hyun Joo, I am so happy that Lee Yo Won got her share of the cake this year. She was outstanding in Empire of Gold.
Top Excellence Actor (Long Drama):
More love for veteran actors!
Top Excellence Actress (Long Drama):
Excellence Actor (Mini-Series):
I didn’t see the drama but Ummm; my friend what’s that outfit and hair? Are you trying to knock out Ji Sub from the top weirdest look?
Excellence Actress (Mini-Series):
Excellence Actor (Mid-Length Drama):
I wonder why didn’t KBS give him an award for Jeon Woo Chi; he really deserves it.
Excellence Actress (Mid-Length Drama):
I will leave the comments about Heirs to you guys. But let me just say this, Park Shin Hye will never be a good actress in my book. She's only a hyped up figure and that is all. There's a huge difference between being a good actor and being a popular idol; our friend here strictly belongs to the second category.

This video is a highlight of SBS dramas this year:
I must admit that I am not happy with SBS nominations and half of the awards it gave. It’s not only about Empire of Gold’s cast but many things didn’t work out. For instance, Heirs that knocked out many other dramas is only an idol drama and it was broadcasted in late 2013 so it’s not fair. And hello SBS! Where’s “The best screenwriter award”? I haven’t seen Park Kyung Soo anywhere.
All in all, we can only congratulate the winners for their awards and hard work.
Stay tuned for KBS awards.
