MV's - Dramas
I take the risk to consider that the majority of the people here enjoy listening to Korean music apart from dramas/movies. I for a start really love some kpop bands and singers. One thing that I've always appreciated regarding the Korean music industry is the way they deal with music, especially their music videos. Many of them are stunning, with bright colors and fancy dance routines, but the ones I love the most are the ones that tell a story. I found many MV's that could really become the "pilot" episode of a drama, or even a summary of it.
So without further delay, here is my list of favorite MV's in no ranking order. Please feel free to share your opinions.
1. San E & Raina(After School) - A Midsummer's Night Sweetness
I really enjoy listening to this song. I find Raina's vocals really sweet and refreshing, and I've been a fan of San E for some time now. What I like about the MV is the way the characters were put in different "windows" for most of the time only to have them meet each other towards the end. Also, I can't help but praise the colors they used. I don't know why, but it really fits the whole story.
Story: So I was thinking about a sweet rom-com with both characters in their 30s. Maybe both of them working at some design company and meeting for a project. The guy being cheerful and a bit clumsy, falling in love first. And for the woman, I was thinking that maybe she could be a little shy and work-driven. Some ups and downs in the middle but nothing overly dramatic.
Same feel as: Protect the Boss, A Gentleman's Dignity, Very Ordinary Couple (movie)
Cast: Lee Chun Hee and Lee Shi Young
2. Davichi - Don't Say Goodbye
This happens to be the first song I've listened from Davichi. I fell in love within a second of hearing their voice. I really consider Davichi to be the best duo when it comes to ballads. The MV is by itself a drama, let's say the first 2 or 3 episodes. The only thing that I would change would be the age of the characters, I consider them too young.
Story: Without a second thought this would be a melodrama. I think the boyfriend and first lover should be in their mid-30s with the second lover being in her late 20s. I would like to develop the story on how Girlfriend 1 was abducted and why, but also mainly the relationships between the 3 characters. Also, what happens to Girlfriend 2 after being taken and the struggles he has to cope through after giving her up. I think he should be a cold character that rarely takes his mask off. For the first lover, I would like her to be intelligent and serious not the lovely-dovey kind. For the second girlfriend, I really wish they would show her angry and vengeful side.
Same feel as: Secret Love, Innocent Man
Cast: Lee Dong Wook (the boyfriend), Hong Soo Hyun (1st lover) and Moon Chae Won (2nd lover)
3. ZIA & Lee Hae Ri (Davichi) - If You Loved Me
Again, one of the singers from Davichi, but I couldn't restrain myself. Also, ZIA is another singer that I love, so I guess you understand my enthusiasm. This is another MV that is like the first episode of a drama. Hoya is one of the idols that I consider good at acting, so it is always a pleasure seeing him in action. The story is easy to understand, and I think it would make a great drama.
Story: I was thinking about a college couple in their early 20s: a melodrama where they're already a couple at the beginning of the drama. I think that would be refreshing, in addition to other dramas, where someone becomes blind in the middle of the drama and gets dumped by their lover only to find a person that truly understands them. The boy should be charming and possessive but also very afraid of losing his girlfriend after going blind. I would like for her to be realistic also maybe selfish to a point, even if she loves him dearly.
Same feel as: That Winter, The Wind Blows, Missing You, Always (movie)
Cast: Yoo Seung Ho and Park Eun Bin
4. Gain (Brown Eyed Girls) & Bumkey - Fxxk U
Please don't jump on me for this one. I really love the sound of this song, sounds weird right? It has this slow jazzy touch to it, but also fast beat... I found it really strange. Also, I am a big fan of Gain, and I love her voice and the idea of this song was interesting. I think that a drama based on it would be interesting. It wasn't done before, at least from what I know, and in my case I would watch it.
Story: Well, maybe I would take out the idea of physical abuse and keep the mental abuse. I would imagine the guy to be in his early 30s with a successful career and kind of a playboy. For the girl, I would consider her in her mid-20s: a daddy's girl with money and a carefree attitude and who changes boys like socks. I think it would be a refreshing idea to get two people with similar personalities to meet and become a couple: both jealous and obsessive of each other.
Same feel as: I Need Romance, Secret Love Affair, Alone in Love
Cast: Joo Ji Hoon and Im Soo Hyang
5. SKULL & Eugene (THE SEEYA) - I'm Getting Married
This was my favorite song for 2 months when I listened to it. SKULL is one of the few known people in Korea that sing reggae, so I was excited for his new piece and of course loved it. I really love the MV and the way it seems to tell a story. The video is really dark and fast-paced so I guess it could involve some action as well if made into a drama.
Story: Ok, so in this case I think that the characters should be younger, let's say in their 20s. Maybe the boy could be involved in a gang doing "bad things" in town and have debt collectors on his toes. It goes without saying that he is a good fighter with no love experience. The girl should lead a normal life, maybe going to college until she meets him and falls in love. "Good girl gone bad" kind of context. I think it would be interesting how they break up and she nearly marries but he gets her back.
Same feel as: Triangle, Two Weeks
Cast: Seo In Guk and Jung So Min
6. K.Will - Day 1
I love K.Will! It was very hard to pick one of his songs because each of them has stunning MVs, but I ended up choosing this one. This one is in my TOP 3 from his list, and I just love it to death. It's so cute and romantic, and I see it as a summary for a drama... The perfect soundtrack with an MV maybe?
Story: Really simple. A sweet love story, happening in college, where the guy falls in love first and tries to get the girl. I know, different from what we've seen right?! No spoiled brat who thinks the world is under his feet, but actually a guy who may be seen as a second lead at first glance. The girl shouldn't be stuck up, but lovable with some trust issues maybe. All in all a sweet rom-com that could have been dragged from a manga!
Same feel as: Playful Kiss, Heartstrings, Kimi ni Todoke (movie)
Cast: Park Min Woo and Eunji (A Pink)
7. Taeyang (Big Bang) - 1 AM
Who doesn't like Big Bang? I listen to every new song they put out, and follow their singles as well. Taeyang has many good MVs, but I really like this one the most. I think it's mature, and it shows that he has developed over the years. Also, it really makes me want to see a drama with an age gap based on the MV.
Story: As I said I think this drama would really suit a "noona romance". A troublesome boy in his 20s who doesn't take anything seriously meets a woman in her 30s. Now I would really hate it if they make her inexperienced and shy about holding hands. Showing how their relationship changes both of them and how he gets "tamed" by her would really make a good drama don't you think? Also, I think she should be an accomplished woman with high self-esteem.
Same feel as: Can We Love? (noona couple), I Need Romance, My P.S. Partner (movie)
Cast: Kim Jae Wook (long hair) and Song Ji Hyo
Well, this is it. I hope you enjoyed my list and maybe heard some new songs as well. I'm thinking of doing more in the future because it was a really fun ride. Let me know what you think and your own opinions an well^^
