The Guest is a Wednesday and Thursday aired supernatural detective drama with its and bits of horror. It is directed by Kim Hong-Sun. In this drama, Kim Dong Wook plays Yoon Hwa Pyung who is a psychic, Kim Jae Wook plays as priest Choi Yoon, and Jung Wun Chae plays as detective Kang Kil Yeong. The three investigate crimes while banishing evil spirits and demons using Korean style exorcism.
5 REASONS TO WATCH
1. STRONG FEMALE LEAD
The first thing that caught my attention while watching this drama was the character Jung Wun Chae. She is smart, strong and independent, and fights for injustice. After meeting Yoon Hwa Pyung she is forced to open her mind and believe the unbelievable.
2. THE ACTING
Kim Jae Wook plays Choi Yoon
This show introduces incredible actors! Character chemistry is already felt in episode one. As mentioned before, this drama shows the exorcism of different demons and spirits which are insane and unnatural, to the point the audience is forced to put hands in front of their eyes or feel uncomfortable.
Supporting characters are great as well and don’t lose their spotlight, for example, Park Ho San playing as detective Go Bong Sang and shaman Yook Gwang played by Lee Won Jong. They show their emotions so well the audience can feel supportive towards them.
3. THE POWER
One of the reasons why this drama is unique is because it's unpredictable and fresh. Scenes where the exorcisms take place or when a demon or spirit is shown, everything sucks the audience into the scene. Completely to the point that it’s possible to forget about the surroundings.
4. THE UNKNOWN
This drama sneakily introduces more characters that leave footprints on the characters and the plot.
Also, every episode can leave the audience with questions: "why?", "what?", "who?", "why is that person involved with that person?", "what will be the consequences?". Some events that occur in the drama, even make you question "what would I do in that situation?". Would I be able to prevent something?
5. THE VISUAL REPRESENTATION
The camera work and the visuals of this drama are hands down amazing. You can see how much work has been left in every scene, how every shade, every line cast on the characters, make everything seem alive and real. It is one of the reasons why this show stands out. Cinematography definitely earns a mention.
