Crash Course in Romance was a hit, not only among the domestic audience but also among international viewers. The rom-com had us hooked from the first episode itself and the 16 episodes went by like the wind. So, to stay with the drama for some more time before we push it to the back shelf of our memories, let's recall some of the most iconic moments from the show the whole world loved.
1. Nam Heang Son Trying to Be a Real Mom
When Hae Yi (Roh Yoon Seo) opens up to her aunt/mother about her desire to join a hagwon, Haeng Seon (Jeon Do Yeon) realizes how ignorant she has been of her daughter/niece's wishes and aspirations. She gets down and blames herself for not doing the best for her family. But her best friend Kim Young Joo (Lee Bong Ryun) assures her that Haeng Seon is truly admirable considering how she looks after her disabled brother and even quit the national handball team to earn a livelihood for her family. She tells that the only thing she did not do for Hae Yi is give birth to her. A little pep talk from her best friend cheers her up and she decides to give the academy a visit and consult on the best course of action for Hae Yi. Seeing our female lead striving to give her niece-turned-daughter the best makes her fans swoon over her.
2. Choi Chi Yeol in Disguise
When Choi Chi Yeol (Jung Kyung Ho) realises that the same woman who chased him for the phone is the owner of Nation's Best Banchan he decides to never step foot in the shop again nor eat its food. But his eating disorder worsens and he craves Nam Haeng Seon's handmade delicacies. So, to avoid getting caught, he decides to go undercover and successfully dupes the former national athlete making her believe that he is just another customer. But Jae Woo (Oh Eui Shik) catches him and recognizes him to be the phone thief and the star teacher. Chi Yeol's attempt to escape is hilarious but he is caught by Nam Haeng Seon, which gives way to a bickering relationship between the two.
3. Haeng Seon and Chi Yeol Bickering
It's no doubt that bickering scenes between the leads were some of the most hilarious moments in the K-drama. Haeng Seon mistakes Chi Yeol for a thief who ran away with her brother's phone. And that laid the foundation for the bitter relationship between the duo which leads to hilarious moments. One such moment is when Haeng Seon and Chi Yeol are in the police station reporting the incident of someone breaking a glass and the officer wants to confirm their relationship. No sooner than later they start bickering and Haeng Seon even called Chi Yeol a young man and he called her ahjumma (lady). It is the little spats between the duo that keeps the viewers anticipating more from them.
4. Cho Chi Yeol Not Getting the Star Treatment
It is no doubt that Choi Chi Yeol is no less than a celebrity in the hagwon world. But expecting every Seoul citizen to know him is a bit far-fetched. In episode 3, Chi Yeol tries to explain to the police officer that he is a celebrity who has a lot of rivals. The clueless officer fails to recognize him and asks him who he is. The star teacher narrates his incidents where people stalk him and tells him that he runs into the pitfalls for being famous. But that too doesn't ring a bell in the officer's mind. Then he says, "I'm Choi Chi Yeol, the star teacher". To make the scene funny the officer asks, "Choi Chi what?". The expression on Chi Yeol's face was to die for. He thought he is a celebrity but being hit with the fact that there is someone who doesn't know him is hilarious.
And this isn't the first time the star teacher's pride is hurt. In episode 1, when Nam Haeng Seon's brother Jae Woo takes a picture of the tiger on Chi Yeol's shirt, the star teacher mistakes him for a scandal maker who will spread false news about him. But turns out he was just admiring his cool tiger jacket.
5. Nam Heang Seon's Accidental Splash
In episode 3, Haeng Seon is cleaning windows while complaining about the air pollution saying that she will treasure them for life because they cost her a fortune. And just then she turns and accidentally splashes the wastewater on Chi Yeol as he just happened to be in front of the shop.
The star teacher is soaked and Haeng Seon insists he changes into Jae Woo's shirt and lets her dry his clothes. But Chi Yeol refuses and tries to get back home. While they are in the middle of the scuffle, Hae Yi enters and asks her teacher Chi Yeol what he is doing there. Haeng Seon is confused and Hae Yi makes it clear to her that Chi Yeol is the star teacher who teaches her at the academy. Haeng Seon is dumbstruck at this discovery and Chi Yeol's expression was also worth looking at. This marks the end of their bitter relationship and the two reconcile.
6. Cho Chi Yeol Trying to Cover His Crime
In order to eat Haeng Seon's food Chi Yeol cracks a deal with her in return to teach Hae Yi maths. Haeng Seon couldn't have been more delighted. But the job was definitely challenging for the star teacher. To help Hae Yi with the subject, Chi Yeol takes a print of the academy material secretly. But the blame goes to one of the staff Hyo Won. Ji Dong Hee (Shin Jae Ha) discovers that the materials have been leaked and blames it on Hyo Won. And just when he is about to check the CCTV footage, Chi Yeol quickly deletes it from the computer. He gives an iconic excuse saying that there are things more important than security like teamwork, trust, and family. He tries to defend Hyo Won when actually he was covering for his crime. Seeing the arrogant star teacher talking about teamwork and trust to prevent the truth from coming out was one of the most iconic Choi Chi Yeol scenes from the drama.
7. Nam Haeng Seon Getting the Words Wrong
It happens numerous times in the drama that Nam Haeng Seon misuses words in her sentences such as "my heart drops a beat" instead of "my heart skips a beat"; "bodyguards of the society" instead of "guardians of the society"; and mistaking lego (a toy) for nego (short for negotiation). It not only makes scenes hilarious and gives comic relief, but also makes Haeng Seon a charming character who will never be forgotten by Jeon Do Yeon's fans.
8. Nam Hae Yi Receives a Warm Welcome at School Post Her Viral Online Confession
After revealing to the world that Nam Haeng Seon is actually her aunt who adopted her when her mother dropped her on her sister's doorstep, Hae Yi was expecting to face bullying in school. But to her surprise, she received applause for bringing her true relationship with Heang Seon to light, and her friends even called her cool and brave for doing so. Not only Hae Yi's braveness but also the support from her friends for speaking the truth made the whole scene one of the most heart-warming moments in the K-drama.
