Lee Sun Kyun posthumously won the Special Award from the Austin Film Critics Association (AFCA) in the United States. The AFCA is one of the major critics' associations in the United States.
On January 11, AFCA announced the winners of its awards categories for the best films of 2023. In the list of awardees, the late actor Lee Sun Kyun is mentioned as the recipient of the Special Award.
The association wrote, "In memoriam of Lee Sun Kyun," and mentioned his movies Parasite, Sleep, and his posthumous work Project Silence in tribute to his life and career.
Actor Lee Sun Kyun passed away on December 27, 2023. On January 12, the Cultural and Artistic Professionals Conference (CAPC) issued a statement at a press conference at the Seoul Press Center, demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deceased's death and calling for the disclosure of the truth in the investigation process.
