Netflix's "Squid Game" Accused of Plagiarism, Again
The 2024 Korea Drama Festival has closed the voting for the fiercely competitive preliminary round of the Korea Drama Awards.
According to the Korea Drama Festival Organizing Committee, the host of the 2024 Korea Drama Festival (2024 KDF), the voting for the preliminary round of the popularity awards, which began at midnight on August 19 through the global K-pop fandom platform My One Pick and the celebrity fandom app Celeb Champ, closed at midnight on September 1.
In the male category for the Hot Star Award, 30 candidates were selected, including Kim Soo Hyun (Queen of Tears), Byeon Woo Seok (Lovely Runner), Cha Eun Woo (Wonderful World), and Ro Woon (The Matchmakers).
In the female category for the Hot Star Award, 32 actresses were chosen, including Kim Ji Won (Queen of Tears), Kim Hye Yoon (Lovely Runner), Kim You Jung (My Demon, Chicken Nugget), and Kim So Hyun (Serendipity's Embrace).
In the Global Star Award category, 30 actors, including Kim Soo Hyun, Kim Ji Won, Byeon Woo Seok, Kim Hye Yoon, and Cha Eun Woo, advanced to the final round of voting.
In the Best Original Soundtrack category, 20 songs were nominated for the finals, including "Was Our Meeting a Coincidence" (The Midnight Studio) by Seungmin (Stray Kids), "More Than Enough" (Queen of Tears) by Kim Tae Rae (ZEROBASEONE), "Way Home" (Queen of Tears) by Kim Soo Hyun, and "Shower" (Lovely Runner) by ECLIPSE.
In the Best Couple Award category, 15 K-drama couples made it to the final voting round, including Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won (Queen of Tears), Byeon Woo Seok and Kim Hye Yoon (Lovely Runner), Kim So Hyun and Chae Jong Hyeop (Serendipity's Embrace), and Song Kang and Kim You Jung (My Demon).
In the Hot Icon Award category, 21 nominees, including Jaechan, Kang Daniel, Cha Eun Woo, Doh Kyung Soo, and Choi Si Won have advanced to the final round of voting.
The final voting for each category will take place from 10 a.m. (KST) from September 8 until midnight of September 28 via My One Pick and Celeb Champ. Notably, this final voting will include six additional main categories: Best New Actor Award (Male/Female), Top Excellence Award (Male/Female), and Excellence Award (Male/Female), making a total of 12 categories.
Voting for the popularity awards in six categories will completely reflect the voters' choice, while for the six main award categories, the voters' choice will account for 10%, and the votes from the KDF judging panel and the organizing committee will account for 90%.
The Korea Drama Festival will be held from October 11-20 at the Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Center.
Hosted by the Korea Drama Festival Organizing Committee and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Gyeongsangnam Province, and Jinju City, the Korea Drama Festival is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year as a platform to promote the development of the broadcasting and video industry and the continuous growth of Korean dramas.
