"Hellbound Season 2": Director Yeon on the K-Drama's Message

Hellbound Season 2 teases a more intricate worldview. 

Hellbound Season 2 picks up from where the story left off in Season 1. Netflix's synopsis reads, "In a chaotic world exacerbated by the continuous hellbound decrees, lawyer Min Hye Jin of Sodo, The New Truth Society, and the Arrowheads get entangled anew amidst the sudden resurrections of The New Truth's Chairman Jung Jin Su and Park Jung Ja."  

Director Yeon Sang Ho described the work by saying, "While Season 1 depicted the confusion caused by sudden, incomprehensible events, Season 2 is about various groups of people trying to establish their principles in the midst of that chaos and fighting with their will." 

In Hellbound Season 2, Sodo, the New Truth Society, Arrowhead, and even the government constantly clash. Writer Choi Gyu Seok explained that Season 2 depicts how a massive phenomenon becomes part of everyday life, with the government losing power, the New Truth Society becoming bureaucratized, and Arrowhead, once just a subordinate group of the New Truth Society, now exerting real influence.  

Director Yeon Sang Ho stated that in Season 2, he aims to show the current state of our society through a world where the decrees and demonstrations of damnation have become a part of daily life.

In Season 2, the resurrection of Jung Jin Su (Kim Sung Cheol) and Park Jung Ja (Kim Shin Rok), both of who died after getting their decrees, leads to even more unpredictable developments. Director Yeon commented, "Through the element of resurrection, the true nature of 'hell' is revealed. For those left behind, resurrection is a phenomenon that can carry a significance that surpasses hell." 

Additionally, writer Choi shared his intent behind writing the script, stating, "Every character has their own 'hell.' I wanted to depict the destruction that ensues when existing organizations lose their meaning." 

Hellbound Season 2 will premiere on October 25, only on Netflix.
