"The Point Men" also known as "Bargaining", emerged as a hit film in South Korea as it surpassed 1 million moviegoers in just seven days of its release. According to the Film Promotion Committee, the action flick surpassed 1,023,232 sales on January 24 and dominated theatres during the Lunar New Year holiday, thereby securing a spot on the list of 2023 box office hit movies.
The film stars South Korea's heart-throb Hyun Bin, the virtuoso of versatility Hwang Jung Min, and the veteran actor Kang Ki Young, among others.
Though the movie takes creative license for dramatic effects, "The Point Men" is based on a true incident that happened back in 2007. When a group of Christian missionaries was abducted by the Taliban in Afghanistan, a skilled Korean diplomat and a special agent had to team up to save the hostages.
Hyun Bin plays the role of Park Dae Sik - a National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent who specializes in the Middle East. He is seen in his action-hero role, and he portrays a character who overcomes his trauma of failing to save hostages in Iraq in the past.
Hwang Jung Min acts as Jung Jae Ho - a South Korean diplomat who is determined to rescue the hostages at any cost. Jung Min and Hyun Bin, who are good friends in real life, are seen entertaining the audience with their budding bromance.
Whereas, Kang Ki Young takes up the role of Kasim / Lee Bong Han - a local interpreter in Afghanistan of Korean descent. The talented actor, as usual, impresses the audience with his acting chops and the unique charm that draws us to his character. We will also get to see Ki Young speaking Pashto and Dari - the local languages of Afghanistan.
Apart from the tense plot and charismatic characters, viewers will also get to see the spectacular sceneries of Jordan where the movie is filmed.
