Lee Byung Hun and his company BH Entertainment shared their official statement regarding the reports about their tax evasion allegations.
On February 28, it was officially confirmed that Lee Byung Hun and his founded agency BH Entertainment the center of a tax investigation by the National Tax Service in 2022 and got fined 100 million won (approximately $75,500) in taxes.
It was previously reported that the National Tax Service had an irregular (special) tax audit on Lee Byung Hun and his founded agency BH Entertainment in September 2022. Through this, the actor and the company got fined hundreds of millions of additional taxes.
Because of this, many speculated that the additional fine was because of the real estate investments of the actor while using individuals and corporations.
With this, BH Entertainment finally gave its official statement regarding the allegations.
BH Entertainment stated, "It is true that the National Tax Service collected additional taxes from us but it is not for the reason of tax evasion." They also firmly denied that actor Lee Byung Hun has been involved in any problem regarding taxes throughout his career.
The agency also gave out detailed information about the collection process that happened. According to them, "Our employees were paid bonuses with personal money but it became a problem in the accounting part after it was processed as company expenses. Lee Byung Hun's modeling fee got a difference in the deposit date that's why we were fined with additional taxes."
Lee Byung Hun is set to star in the upcoming K-dramas Here and Squid Game Season 2, and the upcoming movies The Match, I Believe In a Thing Called Love, and Concrete Utopia. The upcoming Netflix film The Match is currently facing an issue after Lee Byung Hun's co-star Yoo Ah In tested positive for propofol and marijuana.
