Joining the ranks of Moving, Gyeongseong Creature and Arthdal Chronicles, Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin's When the Stars Gossip is now one of the most expensive K-dramas of all time.
tvN's upcoming weekend drama, When the Stars Gossip follows Eve Kim (Gong Hyo Jin), a top astronaut and perfectionist who does not tolerate even a single mistake, and Gong Ryong (Lee Min Ho), an uninvited guest on a secret mission.
The K-drama reportedly comes with a price tag of approximately 50 billion won, due to its star-studded cast, space setting, and overall production costs. When the Stars Gossip is also the first space K-drama to be ever made.
The production team revealed a poster, featuring Commander Eve Kim (Gong Hyo Jin) and Gong Ryong (Lee Min Ho), an obstetrician-gynecologist who stays at the space station for a few days as a space tourist.
The poster shows Gong Ryong, seated inside the space station with a pile of luggage and tools surrounding him, and Commander Eve Kim, looking out into the vastness of space. Gong Ryong's expression conveys curiosity and wonder at the unfamiliar surroundings as he steps into the space station.
On the other hand, Commander Eve Kim, wearing her spacesuit, exudes a sense of familiarity and ease. For her, space — a place filled with mysteries for those on Earth — is just a place where she lives.
The text on the poster reads, "Even in zero gravity, we will 'survive.'" Unlike Earth's abundance, the harsh, unfamiliar environment of space, devoid of air and gravity, becomes the backdrop of their struggle to survive. Viewers are left wondering whether Gong Ryong, Eve Kim, and their fellow astronauts will manage to survive safely in space.
The poster drama sparks curiosity about the daily lives of astronauts who, much like ordinary office workers, go to the space station and carry out their respective duties. This marks Korea's first-ever "space drama," heightening anticipation for its unique take on life beyond Earth.
When the Stars Gossip will premiere on January 4, 2025. The K-drama will be available to stream on Netflix.
