unbeliebubble:I totally understand your point. I also felt the teenage drama vibe. The couple's chemistry is not growing like in a slow burn romance. At episode 6 ( I think) Ju Won falls into Sah Na's arms, like a big cliché . Almost out of nowhere, we understood that the romance was beginning. That's unfortunate, but it felt rushed to me.
I think it feels rushed because they took almost half of the drama in the teenage years "cooking" the romance and now they don't have much air time. The pacing is off and doesn't help the story.
To me it's not only the cliche in the romantic scenes. Even the father-son dialogue between Haejun and his dad feels a bit fake and unnatural.
NGL, I really don't get the vibes from the dads as in Go ahead. And I absolutely loved Choi Moo Sung as Taek's father in Reply 1988, he killed it there. Choi Won Young was good in Sky castle as well. But every time I watch the emotional scenes in FBC it makes my eyes roll because the dialogue is so bad.
unbeliebubble:A shorter format doesn't deprive a drama from emotion.
Yeah i thought so too. I don't really remember how many episodes in Go Ahead covered pre adult timeline, i guess 10? If it 10, it's almost the same as FbC 10 episodes of 1hour each, while Go Ahead is 45 minutes each episodes.
As for the separation, it's the obvious way to compare, they're both covered in 2 episodes (1 episode plus some transisition story) but FbC didn't deliver the same emotion as Go Ahead.
I just randomly watched C-Drama title Hidden Love, the main couple also have similar plot. Female lead is 14yo and have crush on male lead, but male lead always sees her as a kid, as his bestfriend's sister, or almost as sister. But years passed and female lead become young adult, and after some moment together male lead didn't see her as a kid nor sister anymore, he begin attracted to her.
If Go Ahead take more time, and natural way to develop main couple's romantical feeling like in Hidden Love, i probably give Go Ahead's rating higher.
Those 20 episodes of adult timeline can be well spent if focus more on Ling Xiao and JianJian rather than expanded to the story of JianJian' best friend. Especially Tang Can's romance story, it's unnecessary.
I know those 3 bestfriends involved in love triangle to shake their friendship, but i just think it's unnecessary because there are still other issues.

Love O2O - 45 mn 30 episodes.

2 formats but the same cuteness and emotion . The script is almost the same, and that's the key.
Agree on this. I prefer the movie, but the drama is still very good in the plot.
Go Ahead is perfect in Chinese original, while this remake is a waste of brain and resources for me. It's not only the script, they chose idols and not actors starting from the adults. There is no emotion in their portrayal, i am only laughing because it's really cringe even if they cry, they cry but their eyes are laughing hard.

Agreed. I think the middle 1/3 of Go Ahead is pretty pointless and drags because of the romance, which I think overall is not written well for the leads or side characters (this could've been fixed in FBC...). I also think the FL's roommates screen time should've been given to Jian Jian's dad and He Zi's mom as they were much better characters and largely absent until the end.

Wait what lolol. "They cry but their eyes are laughing" ? That's a shame frankly. I also don't really like when producers cast eye candy actors who are not experienced enough to deliver a good performance. Of course I like handsome man like everyone, but not at the cost of emotion in the drama. I prefer those old show when they used to cast people who could really act. even if they don't look like top models.
This is why, after this drama ends, I will watch "Go Ahead"
I also prefere the movie "one smile is very alluring" because the actress is more like in the novel. ( more quirky and less skinny)

I understood that right away. Apart from the first 2 episodes with the children. I did not empathize a lot with the characters. If the story was more about what a family is, and not how can you go out with you adoptive sister. The show would be more interesting and touching. Because a family concept it universal and speaks to every one. But this stereotypical romance drama doesn't cut it. Hmmm that's a pity.

Dialogues are very important. If they mess it, the mess the entire drama. I recently watch an ancient kdrama with superb dialogues. It makes all the difference. I don't know why nowadays writers lack substance. Yes "reply 1988" is a must watch.
I never said the shorter version is deprived of emotion. I said longer version has more depth, and by that i mean have more story to it. Korean version almost end but hae jun never met her mother (maybe in ep 13 later), so in the rest 3 eps i doubt there will be any longer story about hae jun and his mother other than hae jun learn why his mother left. But in go ahead, zi qiu (hae jun counterpart) met her mother for few times, got some unpleasant meeting where ziqiu went to meet her mom in rage, etc etc before finally learning the truth. That just it. And thats one of the reason why kdrama change hae jun, where hae jun is rich while zi qiu still struggling with money (which also the reason for his rage at his mother). So there's no way kdrama with 16 eps can follow every little detail in cdrama that have 40 eps, the amount of the eps already limit it. But again, doesnt mean kdrama version lack the emotion or any other stuff, just that they only focus on the main plot and cant deliver the side story

Apologies, I misunderstood you on this point. The depth depends on how the script is written. To me it is not about the story but how the characters psychological journey is written.
But I understand your point by saying that indeed if a character has the time to be developed. It will be deeper.
I am more about the psychological aspect of the character. When you speak about the character development ( If I understood you well).
unbeliebubble:That's a shame frankly.
Yes, there is no emotion in their portrayal. I am up to date with the drama while rewatching Go ahead and the remake can't be moved.

FL in the drama is my favorite Chinese actress and they both represent well the character, but the movie was better in portraying ML rather than the drama

I also like her acting in the drama. It is just that I could not stand how skinny she was. ( almost anorexic in my views) So this is why I preferred Angelababy in One Smile Is Very Alluring. Who looked more healthy to me. Those 40 kilos women. ugh I am afraid for them.

yes she has always been very skinny but i really liked her in the drama even being that skinny lol. I liked Angelababy a lot too though.

I understand you. I am just afraid for the very skinny actress. They usually weight 40 kilos whereas, if I am not mistaken, anorexia begins around 32 kilos depending on the height o_O

she was exactly 40kg at that time if i remember it correctly, and she is 167cm tall. I remember it because she usually weights 43 or 45kg, but she lost some kilos for the drama.
Her being skinny was something that caused her to be blacklisted, unfortunately, because she was afraid of pregnancy.
