Jaybird17:the willpower it took for them not to grab and kiss each other esp. gutsy lusty boy Tian who injected that sexual innuendo. So satisfying to watch over and over again
Their shining eyes, their shy but hopeful glances... it was perfect! It brings back so many good memories for me of being in that same situation!
KZRocks:I agree, they were able to make that as one of the iconic scene in this show. The way P'aof we're able connect those scenes to future episodes makes it so much better.
I just hope that the series is getting the recognition in Thailand that it deserves. Everyone involved should get a boost in their careers for the work they did!

I hope so too, they totally deserve it. From what i've read and seen they're getting praises for the story, production and acting.
I really admire P'aof, he was interested in making this series way before but since he hasn't found a good actor that's perfect for Phu he didn't push for it yet. You can see he really wanted to make this right not just for the sake of rating/popularity, but because he respects the material. Everything came together perfectly and the wait was definitely worth it.

Yes, it really was a labour of love from all involved.
Thank God I could join you guys in this ep. rewatch. It is one of my fav ep. (basically, saying this about every episodes lol)
I would say this ep. MVP is Tul.
I liked how director portrayed him in series, I wasn't big fan of him in a novel, but in the series he has a whole new purpose and duty. And I love that we have a character like his.
The talk scene - ? THE? MESSAGE? . Who cares who you like. You are my friend and nothing will change that. What an amazing bond Tian and Tul has. And you can see that Tul will always be there for Tian. Always. And that is so beautiful. So comforting to know that no matter what, there will be at least one person, whom you can trust with anything, who will be there for you. Makes me look back at my own little circle of people and reminds me to cherish them more.
'We are young. We are bold.' What a great line, along all other ones Tul has said. But this one struck me the most. I'm just overthinking this line, but I can't stress enough, how important it was. It was the push Tian needed. That's how Tian was able to ask Chief on that kite date-not really date, but it was already something more. He made a move. He did what he wanted. He was brave for himself and for Phu.
As long as you believe that you, in yourself, are young, you can be bold. So what if someone says you otherwise? What matters in the moment is what you want now. What can I say more. Love this.
I'm little sad that we never got TulxDoc.Nam scene in the series, but I would like to imagine that director had some scenes planned, but we just never seen it. That's how it works for me. If I want something, but it didn't happen, I just imagine that it did. And here you have. So in my mind Tul and Dr. Nam are biggest Phutian shippers. Both of them fighting for their friends happiness.
Drunk Yod is bold and annoying Yod. As I mentioned like 100 times, I loved the talk. But I loved it on both sides. TulxTian and Phuphax3musketeers. 3 musketeers pissing Phupha is the funniest thing. Are they wrong though? Chief is not really good at hiding his feelings towards Tian.
And God damn it Chief. Let Yod to eat in peace. No wonder poor man can't stop annoying you when he's drunk, how else he can get revenge on you then?
Goodbye-staring contest scene:
Aof said to his friends that he loves when actors say nothing but their eyes are speaking. And I agree. And I have to say he achieved this on a God level in this ep.
Like, can you put your hand on your heart, and tell me that this eye to eye contact didn't make you feel all fuzzy and warm? I was blushing and it was not ME in that moment.
All kuddos to the one and only EarthMix. Like, come on, all the love that was floating from their eyes, even I felt like I was intruding their moment. Just too good. Too damn good. Chemistry is exploding.
I wanna fall in love guys...
Stare. Do not talk. Stare again. Walk away. Turn around. Stare again. Walk away. This time for real.
Are you kidding me? How is it possible to make all of this so romantic and make me wish that this was never ending.
I can look at them staring at each other for all day. It just makes me happy.
Kites. Kites. Kites. I've never played with one. Even though I grew up in a village too. Not in a big city. I'm 24 and I promised myself, that this summer, when I'll come back home from city, I'll fly a kite for a first time in my life. I always wanted to try it. Now I'm surely will do it.
That scene was just a cherry on the top.(minus the fainting part. We don't talk about this. Too scary. Don't want to remember. Bye)
Kids were smiling. Adults too. All of them absolutely into the moment. Free. Happy.
How often you, in your 'grown-up' years, the years, when you finally are an 'adult' you find yourself enjoying life and little things it gives to you like a child? When was the last time you actually did something that made you feel free, when you didn't care about your life for a moment and focused on something entirely different? Something, maybe trivial in the eyes of others, but actually so...so powerful?
This scene reminded me of that. Of course, everyone interprets scenes like this based on their own experiences.
It was another reminder for me to try focus less on big things and start, again, see small details, moments that also matters. Trying new things. Even if it may sound silly, even it might seem like a childish ones, why not?
Overall, as I said, one of my fav ep. It made me think a lot the first time I watched it and it makes me think everytime I rewatch it.
To be bolder. To fight for the life I want. To try what I want, for myself.
Episode 5 was really great.
I was watching the interactions with Tul. I like how he's a support to Tian in the series. This was definitely a good decision by P'Aof - Tul is just mostly an asshole in the book. He's someone from Tian's old world that helps bridge the two different environments Tian finds himself in. In the beginning he's the only person Tian has to talk to about being gay and possibly liking the captain.
The person who plays Sakda does a perfect job playing the oily villain. He's playing his slick hypocritical character to the tee. In the novel Sakda only interacts with Tian twice, but it is good that P'Aof has developed this main antagonist in the novel so well and given him such a complex and interesting personality.
The scene where Phupha gets drunk with his mates was just so funny. I think they all know he's gay, and they are all trying to help, in some way, to bring Tian and Phupha together. I think they all know by now Phupha has an interest in Tian and they're just making fun of him for being so shy.
Episode 5 has a lot of nice development for the relationship of Tian and Phupha. I like all their shy and awkward interactions on the cliff, and later at Tian's hut. It's funny to see how Phupha can't even smile and has no clue on how to make a move on his love interest. I thought it was also a nice romantic touch when Phupha says he just likes to hear Tian talking when they are with the children. The kite flying with the children is really a magical cinematographic moment - I can't really say why it's so good, but just the look of pure unadulterated happiness on the kids' faces, and Tian's face as well (till he collapses).
Overall a great episode, and perhaps the best one so far. I'm glad they kept out a lot of the jealousy storyline between Nam and Tian which was really unnecessary. Overall P'Aof does better than the novel in much of this, and fleshes out a lot of the missing interactions between several of the major characters.
Dainora Petrauskaite:Like, can you put your hand on your heart, and tell me that this eye to eye contact didn't make you feel all fuzzy and warm?
Nope. I can't say that. I'm with dllmzca -- this scene made me think back to my own long goodbyes. But in my case, they were frequently on the phone....neither one of us wanting to hang up. (For a reasonable approximation, see the scene in Boys Lockdown where Key and Chen are talking on the phone, and watch the looks on their faces.) Tian and Phu had the advantage of being able to look at each other.

Indeed. =)

- OK, Bye, then...
- You hang up, first.
- No, you hang up first!
- I don't want to hang up first!
- Well, I'm not doing it!
- OK. I'll do it.
- OK.
- Good night, then...
- Good night...
- Aren't you hanging up?
- Yeah, I am. Good night.
- Good night.
- OK, I'm hanging up, for real, this time.
- For real?
- Unless you want to keep talking...

As I said, everyone sees things from their own perspectives.
I don't have much experiene on this kind of stary-goodbye, so i can only imagine and try to understand what all of it could mean.
It made me feel happy because we saw Chief like this for the first time: Vulnerable, his eyes exposing his insecurities and that small hope he has. Usually Phu is hiding his emotions, even if everyone jokes how open he is, even if everyone sees his attraction for Tian, he, himself is not used to reveal his inner thoughts (as I understood from series and novel). And the fact, that it was shown in goodbye-stare scene was like a new side of him was introduced to me. It made me like his character even more. He was opening lottle by little and it means a lot. For Tian - it could be the same. He saw Chief so out of himself, not this strict man he knows and he just does what he wants for both of them.
All of this made me feel warm and happy and I just want this kind of thing for myself.
And again, I'm just overthing this scene too much lol
