it's not a short clip. it's literally just an ending credit where the actors' name is next to the character they play. it's in chinese characters so non chinese speakers like us only focuse on the pretty purple background ?

You mean when Miao Miao Lin Yu died for the first time?

no. it's the actual ending credits the one with the purple background at the end of the episodes. it shows the actors' names and the characters that they play. it's in chinese so chinese fans of the show pointed it out since day 1 that ding yuxi also plays Fu Zhou.

Apparently its just the list of actors and the character they play. Because its listed in Mandarin, those who can't read mandarin miss out on it.

It's a happy ending everyone!

No matter how I look at it, it's a happy ending to me. Book Ziqi already confessed to Miaomiao that he has liked her pretty much his whole life (in the real world) and all his books were actually written for her. Book Ziqi is also real life Ziqi as rl Ziqi pretty much wrote the story with him and his circumstances in it. Who MM fell in love with is the same book Ziqi and rl Ziqi. And in the real world, MM already likes rl Ziqi (as Fu Zhou the author). When they finally meet, it is so easy to see how things would play out. They would catch up (they already knew each other before, get to know each other more, and they'd spend all the time recounting about MM's experience in the book and what Ziqi/Fu Zhou actually wrote. Of course they end up together. It's a happy ending everyone. Not an open ending.

it feels OE to me because, how did the book end? all they hinted was he gave every character a happy ending. what happened to mu yao and fuyi? they showed cuicui and granpa bamboo in modern world but no mu yao? she was in MM's childhood too. also, the thought that mu sheng can be fu zhou but fu zhou cannot be the mu-sheng in the game. why? he wrote the book. he knows what happened even if he did not transmigrate to the game himself. so he can tell the story on mu sheng's pov but we cannot say that fu zhou transmigrated when he was undergoing the surgery. they did not elaborate on that because they did not even let us see him look modern miaomiao in the eye to confess his feelings! ?

You pretty much said it. Mu Yao and Fuyi also got their happy ending, regardless of whether we were shown it or not.

Fu Zhou not being Ziqi in the game is not relevant. Fu Zhou or Ziqi (his real name by the way, Fu Zhou is his pen name) has loved Miaomiao his whole life in the real world. All the books he has written (which Miaomiao loves) is for Miaomiao. In the real world, Ziqi is already in love with Miaomiao.

Ziqi, realizing he was Fu Zhou all along, is important as this is the key to their happy ending in the real world. This is the bridge between the virtual world and the real world. Although the virtual world is not "real", everything Miaomiao experienced is real to her and her feelings are real. That's why she took great pains to save everyone because even if they are "just" book characters, to her they are real people and she holds them all dearly. The key is Ziqi confessing he is Fu Zhou all along and Miaomiao had been his inspiration since the beginning. He has liked her long before and that is really only what he wants her to know.

We are told Miaomiao only has a vague recollection of the dream, but she paused when she saw Cui Cui and his grandfather. She will recall when she and Ziqi finally meets and talks. Real-world Ziqi doesn't know that Miaomiao also likes him back (because like you said he hasn't transmigrated tot he book - but he doesn't need to, he's already in love with Miaomiao) and Miaomiao does like him back (through her experience in the book as book Ziqi is pretty much real-world Ziqi with him and his real life circumstances written in the book). The person Miaomiao fell in love with is the same. And now because book Ziqi has already confessed to her, she also knows he is in love with her in the real world.

We aren't shown anything else, but given everything above, it's really easy to see how their happy ending is secure. With two people who likes each other so much, Miaomiao (even disregarding her real world memories to save Ziqi) and Ziqi (bravely deciding to finally do the surgery in order to be well and healthy and finally meet Miaomiao), there is no scenario or ending where they will not make it work. :)

Lol point is, we would have like to see it because thats why we watch.  There was no need to get us to interpret their ending on our own. Just show it. This trope is getting tiring. I stopped watching kdramas because of unnecessary storytelling and awful endings. It's lazy writing and a cop out ending to appear creative.  Short dramas give better and complete endings. Why is it so hard in this case? Someone in the comments pointed out that the ending and lack of skinship is to get people to watch the variety shows and I'm starting to believe it.

The variety show hadn't even been planned in the beginning. It was part of the reward for reaching 30k heat index, and it's literally 3 episodes and should be taken as it is. Just some bonus materials for fans of the show.

Anyway, I cannot force anyone to agree with me. Sorry that you didn't enjoy the end (the same as others). Everyone will interpret the ending differently.

To me, it was a happy ending as I've already written above.
