I have read the novel.(I would say skimmed through it) .
Although I have not started watching the drama properly yet but I have watched some clips and noticed they have made huge changes (positive changes).
Because I couldn't control my anger reading the novel but I can tolerate the drama and its interesting as well.
The novel basically starts with MJH forcing himself upon ML (mei lin).
And the start itself made me sick (not joking).
It was dreadful and sickening.
Thankfully the drama didn't start like that(as far as I remember)
In the novel MJH always despises ML ,calls her 'slave' and other disgusting names ,not only that to please luomei always hurts her.
Besides ,he always questions himself that how could he love ML ,he should love luomei as she had saved him once.(Irony-ML(mei lin) saves him countless times).
That's clearly not the case with the drama(that I liked the most).
Marries her off to his subordinate(no idea how they are gonna do this in the drama but I don't think that's gonna happen here)
Even slaps her a couple of times(once just because he was angry and once to show luomei).
In a nutshell,the novel depicted ML on a weaker side while In the drama Mei lin is really strong.
I just want the end to be like the novel(he becomes the emperor,marries her when she wakes up).

  I don't like the deplorable attitudes of the male protagonist in the book, nor do I like some of the female protagonist's. But I like the general meaning of the story, I think I understand the true meaning that the female writer wanted to convey with her novel. In the book, Mei Lin really likes flowers, there are many passages throughout the book where she mentions flowers. In the book, the male protagonist was written to, despite all his deplorable attitudes, learn from his own humiliation and total dependence on her (his own life in her hands), to learn to respect her, to stop calling her a slave, to admire her, to see the beauty in her that he has not seen in any woman. And when he thinks that she is dead, all that hardness of his completely falls away, and he chooses her above all else. And the significant moment with the flowers at the end, he appreciates them together with her (this has a very strong meaning). It's as if he really had his past, or had done it, gone away, and now he would be that man that Mei Lin deserved and that he wanted to be, to live together with her, with no concubines, having her as his legitimate empress.

This drama is too much.

Let me tell you, when MJH came in on that horse. I was screaming, rewound that back. Didn't he look good? Dropped that mask. Saw that smirk and those dimples! Hell yeah. You would have thought someone smacked CP. He probably thought he was seeing a ghost. And it surely wasn't Casper. What an epic moment! But was he done, no, shout out to his girl, Mei Lin told her to come on up on his horse. Rode out like the duo they were. Deuces!

Ok, now I'm not believing LM. Not feeling that, "you were always in my heart moment." Girl is playing him, HARD! She still loves our boy MJH. That kind of burning love she has for that man is not changing overnight. Girlfriend's eyes lit up like the 4th of July fireworks when she saw him. You know, I definitely would have jetted after MJH. Screaming his name when I saw that fine ass riding in. Yeah, hand would have dropped with a quickness. See ya CP. My real man is back. But I have to say, I do believe CP loves LM. He is just so twisted.

Stop messing with Daddy Emperor! He is the best emperor ever. Loves both sons but he knows how they both can be. He is all chilled out with ZG. And speaking of ZG, she is working my nerves. I know she is going to work them more because she is going to interfere with MJH and ML. Stay in your lane girlfriend. You know she is trying to get her to stay at her crib. But now that YQ spurn the tale of all tales about the moon god, Daddy Emperor is going to give up our girl ML. Which we know isn't going to go down.

Previews are stressing me. I forgot that she is supposed to die in a year, right? Get the damn cure. Hell call up my girl XYZ from "Snowy Night Timeless Love" and have her heal her. She healed everything in that drama. My girl cannot, I repeat cannot die. I am over these sad endings.

  In the book there is a cure for both of them (it's in the jade flower), a red flower that appears on Murong Jing's hat in some photos, and on Mei Lin's hat in another photo. (but in the drama he called it a dragon flower?).

  I'm going to mildly push back on what you said about the FL. I think you've misunderstood her core character/personality. And who she is as a person. I will come back to that later.
  
  Firstly, we know Mei Lin is an assassin. But she's an assassin with one goal and one goal only: Assassinate MRJ and avenge her people. She trained for 10 years just for this. We never hear about her assassinating anyone else. She only had one goal. Kill MRJ.
  
  Secondly: She came to fulfill her goal and get revenge. But on this journey, she found proof that MRJ is not the killer of her people. As an assassin, her goal changed: join hands with MRJ, find the real killer and avenge her people. She is doing that currently.
  
  Thirdly: She is currently on her mission for revenge. Yes, she fell in love on the way, but that doesn't mean she gave up revenge. Every steps her and MRJ are taking is for their ultimate revenge.
  
  Back to why I think you've misunderstood her core character: yes, Mei Lin is an assassin. But from episode one, we've also been shown that she's a soft soul. When not being an assassin (or protecting people), she's a very simple person who dreams of a good simple life for herself. Even in her interactions with others, you can see how easy going, straightforward and simple she is. She smiles easily, and enjoys friendships. She cherish those close to her.
  
  Her goal has always been revenge and living a simple life afterwards. Her character has not strayed from her core personality introduced since episode 1. Her character has been consistent. So her falling in love does not mean she's not a "bad azz assassin" anymore.
  
  The Mei Lin you are seeing right now is the Mei Lin she's always been. It's just that, that side of hers was sometimes hidden because she had to shoulder everything herself. Now she doesn't have to because she has someone else to help her with her revenge. So we are seeing her true self (soft soul) more and more. She is a well rounded character.
  
  As for MRJ... lol l agree with you... let's just hope he has a better plan than what we are seeing??

I actually am fine with both Yue Qin and Zigu. I think they will end up doing the right thing and help the main CP when the rubber meets the road. In their shoes, they need allies anywhere they can find them. And while Yue Qin's affection is misplaced, until she is married, the FL is fair game. I like to see a worthy rival for the girl and not just some simple farm boy. May the best man win. The real issue at this point is the Jinghe has been less than honest with her on one big thing and (drum roll) he actually freaking poisoned her!!! I am still in his camp but I am A-ok with him sweating it out a little bit over the fact that the FL actually has a real choice. And it raises the stakes for him to make her his queen bc that is also what Yue Qin is prepared to offer.
