In the book she run away from him because MurongJing  support the female General, she take the doctor the one  who they save him from the jade forest . Mei lin is very smart since she is a trained assassin to avoid detected she chooses unofficial road. MurongJing order is most elite army  golden flying horse .

I think during the hunting expedition MurongJing like the female general, mei Lin is a trained assassin so she managed to escape the execution . When she was able to escape she get caught and the female general almost killed her she fall in the cliff . Later she find him unconscious at the bottom of the cliff. She didn't want to save him but she did . After this incident they managed to escape into the forbidden jade forest where the tomb of  ancient emperor was  buried it is like a maze no one was manage to come out alive 

PS`:   This part reminded me a little of the "Lord of the Rings" movie.

"legend of Hao lan", No, I haven't watched this drama. I watched the first episode of Legend of Sheng Li, which is streaming now (it's because I don't have time to watch it), and I'm prioritizing "In Blossom".
