Cang Xuan and Xiao Yao, LYF Season 2

It helps that the author was involved in the production, and it shows. I too like these characters, always lots to discuss. XY is not the typical female heroine in period C dramas and neither is CX as male lead.

Maybe that's why we love these characters so much? Because they aren't typical leads in dramas? I was thinking of C-drama tropes earlier today, and I can't think of many that LYF has. Oh, there's the piggy-back ride CX gives XY.  And that's mostly in keeping with their childhood; both piggy backs take place under the phoenix trees.  But very few tropes that I can recall, and lots of original story. So the leads are not the usual leads.  I am ever so thankful for this too.

Aiyyy it reminds me of the chapter towards the end of the novel (where she poisons them) - he was the most important person in her heart, always the first in her mind. My YaoXuan heart.

Zhuan Xu’s tears fell and Xiao Yao saw it and smiled “Gege, Zhuan Xu…….I……..I forgive you! It’s too hard to hate you…….worse than cutting my own heart to pieces……I forgive you…….”

Zhuan Xu cried “Xiao Yao, tell me! If we could do it all over again and I held you close after we reunited on Five Gods Mountain, with no chance for Jing to get close to you, would you have picked me?”

Xiao Yao was about to pass out but Zhuan Xu’s words took her back to the very beginning and it was as clear as yesterday “When I was locked up in the cage by the nine-tailed fox, all I could think of was you…..all I missed was you….when you didn’t recognize me, I still used my life to save you…….back then…….there was no Jing yet………..” Xiao Yao’s voice trailed off

My YaoXuan heart hurts a lot. Yes I remember that excerpt from the novel. In her hardest time, thinking about him was her solace.  Her heart was only for her gege from the beginning but on the road to the throne, he did allow her and Jing to get close. If only he confessed before that.

I love that XY still has Ge Ge first in her heart....why oh why can't that be enough for CX to know?  I love how he says he won't let anyone take her away..... BUT someone needs to tell him that saying, which even Grandpa has tried to tell him: "If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it is yours. If it doesn't, it never was."  Big sigh. XY always comes back to Gege, but he's so afraid she won't come back if she is with Jing. And so, the set up for the last part begins....

Aiyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa recharging the battery with love ❤️ reminds me of an excerpt in the novel (ch 43) where CX says 

Xiao Yao sat across from Zhuan Xu and picked up her bowl to eat silently. Zhuan Xu ate with a look of happiness on his face, if every day could be like this, having a meal with Xiao Yao after working hard all day, then no matter how tired he was it would dissipate.
