I'm really surprised at how good this version is. I believe it's the 3rd Chinese version (if you count the Taiwanese as Chinese). I've seen every version I could of Hana Yori and this ranks high. While I don't think Wang He Di is attractive as Jerry Yan, I think he's a better actor. Overall, this cast is better than the original. Mainland China's first attempt (MG 2) was regrettable and mostly forgettable. I won't be forgetting this cast any time soon. They're really enjoyable.
Another thing I like is that they didn't start them in HS. This cast is pretty young and probably could have pulled it off, but the story works better with them being adults.
The only thing I can't get over is seeing their breath. That was an issue with MG 1. Turn the damn heat on! How cheap can a production be when you don't even heat the room your actors are in?
I've always had a love hate relationship with the mom, but not this time. They've done an excellent job in making her unlikable.
