Hello,

I can't seem to see a Sort feature on the calendar page? It was a pretty useful feature imo, do we have any idea why was it removed, or any community poll which was taken before this decision?

What is the sort feature?

apologies for not being clear enough! What I meant was sort by popularity, ratings, top ranked, etc. I can only see 'Filters' now

Do you mean the search feature? The calendar only had all or my list with no filters in the past. The sort by is for the search p, not the airing calendar. Search still has em. Maybe you were searching on the right for airing only and confused em?

Not really, I used to go to the 'Calendar' page, go to a quarter, and used to sort by Popularity. I vividly remember doing this, that's why I was surprised when I saw it removed

Oh, I never found any use for the quarterly page, largely because so many upcoming dramas don’t have their proper upcoming dates until very close to airing (I don’t watch a lot of Cdramas, though).

It might just have been ultimately replaced by the search that they made more robust than most other parts:

All upcoming titles for 2026 sorted by popularity

https://mydramalist.com/search?adv=titles&st=2&so=popular

Only dramas (largely the same)

https://mydramalist.com/search?adv=titles&ty=68&st=2&so=popular

Only movies:

https://mydramalist.com/search?adv=titles&ty=77&st=2&so=popular

Only Kdramas: https://mydramalist.com/search?adv=titles&ty=68&co=3&st=2&so=popular

and so on... I basically distrust the release dates/quarter most of the time, anyway, given how incredibly unreliable they are/how often the date originally published in this or that source flies past along with another year.

@Ji-N3 (or the community manager) will have to clarify why it was removed and whether it’s temporary or was even intentional or some code got garbled. Hopefully the search (just tap the magnifying glass 🔍 on any page then go to the lower right to customize it) will help enough til you get more clarity. It’s the main thing I use besides the “my list” and now, finally, being able to only look at dramas, not having the calendar full of Tv shows and films I rarely watch in the first case and that are usually not available immediately in the latter…

That said, popularity is a little unreliable (results have always been mixed, too), and shows flip up and down a whole lot (to a point of people posting conspiracy theories about their most anticipated titles dropping down too far to be reasonable when other shows get traffic😂). Bots make it infinitely worse since something can be most popular simply from networks unleashing their “army” to overtake the “top” spots pre-release. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Elbee Thank you! No, the search feature does not really help me in this case. What I used to do was go a few quarters back, example Q4 - 2025, and then sort by popularity/ratings, and check if I find anything interesting to watch. I don't think we can do something similar with Search feature? I understand this could be a niche use case, but still a use case nonetheless, feels weird to have it removed without community consensus 😄

You can narrow it down to a specific year or range of years (including this one or last year or both) in the search and filter it with any mix of genres and tags (including clicking twice to exclude a genre or tag if not in a mood for it/not a fan of a certain kind of snow), ratings if you happen to rate things in line with the quite young and mostly female demographic here (though that very youthful prevalence here means a whole lot of ratings make no sense if considering performance skill/delivery, storyline, direction/production (all elements and how they come together)… I mean, Baeksang and other top “judged by other directors, writers, professors, and top critics” competitions’ winners are falling far behind, well, quite dorky and shallow romances that just happen to have a very popular pair of cast members… and often!

The closest search can get is narrowing by year, the other factors all options in the sort by box.

This search is 2025 South Korean dramas rated 8+ and sorted by popularity (though so many non-romance dramas get blasted to levels that really make no sense objectively, so if you aren’t looking for heart-tugging content/want to have it tickle your brain instead of rustling up your hormones, the rating is really going to do a disservice much of the time, cast popularity sadly a huge factor in scores, popularity, and rank even with really awful scripts and overacting or otherwise unnatural acting, not that my scores are at all consistent with my experience OR objectivity, me throwing each out the window enough to recognize it though I will more quickly give a show a rating I think it earned (esp. if it is “not really my type but well made” and I had a different level of satisfaction from it, so who am I to fuss over rookie actors who happen to be crushed on by people a third, sometimes fourth if my age? 😂)

I play with genres/tags when I go exploring! Even just typing a few letters and seeing what tags are there is useful in getting my brain to think of what I do or definitely don’t want to see—if a happy ending is a must or you can’t deal with something draining, you can x out tearjerker and tragedy. If you WANT tragedy or just something really toxic with psychopaths and gaslighting and so on, it can bring you titles you never heard of. I sometimes type “female lead” or male lead and look at the traits or professions and see what dramas have that kind of lead. Handy, too, if a trope is one you can’t enjoy whether just for now or almost never (love triangle, amnesia, childhood connection in a romance, etc). My single favorite tag is black comedy… shows are already ahead if they do that well for me.

Before I was on here, Baeksang Awards were the top way I grabbed titles I felt would have really high chances of being appreciated/enjoyed by me! Briefly blacking this out to mention… Asianwiki (regular Wikipedia, too, though with too much clutter) has a tidy master list of the ##th Baeksang awards you can just tap through and basically pick your year to see the top nominations for both films and TV dramas, storytelling my favorite category but they do have quite a spread since they can’t nominate the top 10-15 in every single category so I explore top actors including best new and all else, not just screenwriter and director awards. :) It is handy to have it easy to click through year by year and search out lost treasures.

If you find people with either really similar taste to yours, polar opposites, or just interesting reviews that are insightful, stalking them and sorting their list by ratings and year is handy, too. If I want to see their highly rated recent SK dramas, I’ll do rating-year-nation so it will have all of SK together (and other countries-you can obviously filter it too) then show all the titles from 2026 in order of rating then 2025ks by rating and so on. Some people have really detailed custom lists, too, with mini reviews (I am not one of them-I barely keep everything marked watched).

If you aren’t on feeds, that is my favorite way to gamble! I just ask with a couple of criteria (how long it can be and any wishes, usually in my case something to detox after a stressful drama so I go to sleep all goofy and cheerful and don’t dream of my psycho leads chasing me through a forest with weaponry)! Others will usually sincerely give you shows they are happy about that fit your criteria, even just “I wasn’t here much the last few months… what’d I miss?”

Hopefully the genie our Ji-N3 will figure out what happened to those details on the calendar and report back after some time in the bottle, I mean bubble, of the coding team and server gibberish. :)

Sorry that got so long! Probably time for me to sleep! :)

Will have to look into it. I actually don't remember that feature at all.

Thank you ElBee!!

Ji-N, any updates from the team?

I saw in his update and on the calendar page that it was restored and you can filter out countries/type and sort by start date, rank, popularity, and title though it is this year’s four quarters… I never saw, on here, the ability to go to past years… to see a list of titles, unsorted, from several months ago Asianwiki is the only site I recall having that option though it is by month.

Edit: go to here to see update announcements: https://mydramalist.com/feeds/mdl-updates :)

Ah if you don’t see “join” somewhere on that page, go here first? https://mydramalist.com/g/mdl-updates

As with the MyDramaList group, WesternFlix, Anime, J-Drama, Books, etc, you have to “join” it to see the feed posts within it. Dunno why you have to join to see anything since they’re available for anyone to join, just that it is how they set it up! 😂
