2024 Post-Drama Slump Era
-
1. Asunaro Hakusho
Japanese Drama - 1993, 11 episodes
- Completed: Jan 7
I'd have liked the drama more if the lead couple didn't end up together, because I don't think their relationship was very healthy.
-
2. Goong
Korean Drama - 2006, 24 episodes
- Completed: Jan 8
Don't ask me why I liked this, the acting was painful, the storyline was insufferable, the drama was way too long (16 episodes or less would have been much better), the male lead was the typical asshole that was popular in the 2000s-2010s, BUT it had such a charm to it, I couldn't help but root for the couple.
-
3. Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni
Japanese Drama - 2018, 9 episodes
- Completed: Jan 11
One of my favorite dramas of the year, I actually loved it more than the manga, it handled the story with more maturity.
-
4. Mama wa Idol
Japanese Drama - 1987, 10 episodes
- Completed: Jan 15
- Started in 2024
It was like watching a sitcom like Full House or The Brady Bunch, but Japanese, it was lovely. The age-gap is definitely an issue, but thankfully no level of touching happened between the leads.
-
5. Goblin
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
- Completed: Jan 18
The only issue this drama has is the loooooooooong episodes, usually full of filler scenes, but I loved the lead couple, since it was a magical/supernatural setting, the teenager and 100-year-old man thing didn't bother me as much, it's like Twilight or The Vampire Diaries, such a ridiculous age-gap that it doesn't compute in my brain.
-
6. Welcome to Samdal-ri
Korean Drama - 2023, 16 episodes
- Completed: Jan 21
- Watched while airing
(Wrote about it in my drama club list)
-
7. Aishiteiru to Ittekure
Japanese Drama - 1995, 12 episodes
- Completed: Feb 7
- Started in 2024
(Wrote a review)
-
8. Tell Me That You Love Me
Korean Drama - 2023, 16 episodes
- Completed: Feb 7
- Started in 2024
(Wrote about it in my drama club list)
-
9. Watashitachi wa Douka Shiteiru
Japanese Drama - 2020, 8 episodes
- Completed: Feb 11
Nothing about this drama caught my attention, except for the cinematography.
-
10. Houkago
Japanese Drama - 1992, 5 episodes
- Completed: Feb 12
- Started in 2024
Such a cute drama, I wish more old dramas of Mizuki Alisa were subbed.
-
11. Soundtrack #2
Korean Drama - 2023, 6 episodes
- Completed: Feb 19
- Started in 2024
Cute, but it suffers from the amount of episodes.
-
12. Long Vacation
Japanese Drama - 1996, 11 episodes
- Completed: Feb 22
The lead couple was low-key annoying.
-
13. Koisenu Futari
Japanese Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
- Completed: Feb 22
I wish it was less PBS special, a couple scenes/episodes felt like I was being taught how Asexual and Aromantic people feel, and there's value to that, but as an Asexual/Aromantic person I just want stories like any other, I don't want a classromm.
-
14. Moon Embracing the Sun
Korean Drama - 2012, 20 episodes
- Completed: Feb 23
- Started in 2024
The challenge is to get past the child portion of the drama, once you're over that the story becomes very interesting to follow.
-
15. Proposal Daisakusen
Japanese Drama - 2007, 11 episodes
- Completed: Feb 23
Could not get over the fact that the male lead and the second male lead were losers, for different reasons. The second male lead for dating a girl who was his high school student, the male lead for having a billion opportunities to express himself yet always falling short.
-
16. Soredemo, Ikite Yuku
Japanese Drama - 2011, 11 episodes
- Completed: Mar 12
Slow beginning, amazing ending.
-
17. Kira Kira Hikaru
Japanese Drama - 1998, 10 episodes
- Completed: Mar 14
- Started in 2024
One of my favorite dramas of the year, I usually don't like procedurals, but I can only count one story of the 10 episodes that I didn't like.
-
18. Tokyo Elevator Girl
Japanese Drama - 1992, 11 episodes
- Completed: Mar 14
- Started in 2024
I need every male character from this drama dead immediately!
-
19. Kono yo no Hate
Japanese Drama - 1994, 12 episodes
- Completed: Mar 17
- Started in 2024
GOD! Those situations where you hate everything, from the characters, to the storyline.
-
20. Run On
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
- Completed: Mar 17
I think Shin Sae Kyeong is just not my kind of actor, every scene that asked for emotion from her fell flat.
-
21. Queen Seon Deok
Korean Drama - 2009, 62 episodes
- Completed: Mar 18
In my mind I know this drama is incredible, but personally I'm not a fan of stories that are heavy on politics, and so there were a couple of times where I lost interest. Just not my kind of stuff.
-
22. Flower of Evil
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
- Completed: Mar 18
Maybe the hype ruined this for me, I expected a lot and didn't get much.
-
23. Pyramid Game
Korean Drama - 2024, 10 episodes
- Completed: Mar 22
The game aspect adds a Hunger Games fun to it, but I'm not a big fan of bullying storylines. I watched this exclusively to see Jang Da A's acting debut, and I look forward to her career, I think she has potential.
-
24. Ossan no Pants ga Nandatte Ii Janai ka!
Japanese Drama - 2024, 11 episodes
- Completed: Apr 4
- Started in 2024 / Watched while airing
A lovely drama, but it suffers from the same issue Koisenu Futari had: it becomes a teaching drama sometimes.
-
25. Eye Love You
Japanese Drama - 2024, 10 episodes
- Completed: Apr 14
- Started in 2024 / Watched while airing
Hands down, the best romcom of the year so far.
-
26. The Love You Give Me
Chinese Drama - 2023, 28 episodes
- Completed: Apr 21
- Started in 2024
Not much to say about this one, overall a cute drama with a cute leading family, but the plots were sometimes a bit too ridiculous. I also think the drama would have benefited from having fewer episodes.
-
27. Shogun
Japanese Drama - 2024, 10 episodes
- Completed: Apr 23
- Started in 2024 / Watched while airing
I had peaks of interest and disinterest, but overall a very solid story.
-
28. Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake
Japanese Drama - 1998, 12 episodes
- Completed: Apr 27
- Started in 2024
(Wrote a review)
-
29. Something in the Rain
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
- Completed: Apr 27
- Started in 2024
Holy shit, what an annoying and immature set of characters. And honestly, by the time I reached the finale, I didn't even care for the lead characters.
I also hated the jazz-y soundtrack, I guess I'm old-fashioned because English songs shouldn't be in dramas. I hated the sort of serial killer background music they'd play at such random moments: a situation of workplace harassment would happen? serial killer music, the mother would behave like a child? serial killer music. It threw me off and made me a bit uncomfortable for some reason.
