Multilingual romance!

For romances where characters communicate with different languages - whether spoken, signed, or both! As long as there's romance between both characters, it can go here! I initially asked some friends in a BL space for help, but this isn't just for BLs XD

The ones with more detailed notes/names mentioned are ones I've seen and feel confident commenting on. Other ones are from friends I asked to help with this list!

Lead couple: FL knows Korean Sign Language (AND BSL) and can speak Korean, but also writes/types to most people bc of her selective mutism. ML speaks Korean, and is now learning sign as of episode 5! <3
2. First Note of Love

Taiwanese Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

Side couple: Reese speaks Mandarin and Orca speaks Thai. Both also speak English, but they often speak at each other in their own languages, as it seems they both have a decent level of listening comprehension.
They do end up speaking in each others' languages, and Reese mentions he's been learning Thai for so long yet feels like he's not proficient.

Quite a warm story.

Lead couple: Both speak Mandarin but Shu Yi is half Japanese so also throws out a good bit of Japanese. Shi De also uses Japanese at some point, maybe to confess to him, but I barely remember.

Lead couple: one speaks Thai and the other speaks Korean.
6. Blue Canvas of Youthful Days

Chinese Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

Side couple: A character is deaf and uses a hearing aid, and knows sign language.
7. I Told Sunset about You

Thai Drama - 2020, 5 episodes

Lead couple: Both speak Thai, but Teh speaks Mandarin fluently and Oh is learning - the language comes up quite a bit including in a song iirc.

Japanese Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

Lead couple: both speak Japanese, but Kohei apparently uses sign language for important moments later in the show - might need to finish this one and see.

Lead couple: one has hearing loss and also uses sign language.
11. Love Is Like a Cat

Korean Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

Leads: One speaks Thai, other Korean
5.8 rating, and it was apparently a whole mess.
12. Love in Translation

Thai Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

Lead couple: one is of Chinese descent, other Thai.
