A favorite, but the slap-in-the-face, cheap-shot ending is an abomination. Thus, in order to keep this otherwise wonderful series on the list, I hit the STOP button immediately after the first group photo at the wedding in the final episode and pretend the rest of the show was never filmed.

The unspeakable tragedy near the end at first struck me as a cheap-shot, and the subsequent weirdness with a doppelganger turned me off, but then the show regained its stride and the tremendous acting of the surviving lead, along with that of his supporting cast, brought me back around. Helped a lot that I found reason for hope in some important dialogue in the final episode.

  • Love Sick

    21. Love Sick

    Thai Drama - 2014, 12 episodes

Specifically, the BL-Cut of this series, including its sequel.

This is the first BL series I watched after stumbling across the BL universe on YT, and even though my tastes have grown and changed since, it will forever remain a charming favorite in my heart.

  • Together with Me: The Next Chapter

    22. Together with Me: The Next Chapter

    Thai Drama - 2018, 13 episodes

A case of a sequel being even better than its very worthy predecessor, this show raised a bar already set high by the first season when it came to portrayals of passionate, physical love-making in a BL by its totally committed lead actors. No "mannequin" or "dead-fish" kisses here, enacted by lame actors/directors too self-consciously homophobic to honestly tell the story they selected to present. Full-on, but not at all explicit, sex between lovers is unabashedly represented, just as in those millions of straight romances.

Also, this series bravely dared to go where most BLs are petrified to tread, into the land of cheating (gasp!) by half of the main couple. The subsequent, intense angst, pain, hurt and eventual reconciliation made for an engrossing watch.

Exceptional chemistry between the actors playing the now-iconic MC. Very strong supporting cast, especially the sexy/funny female lead who damn near stole the show.

  • More than Words

    23. More than Words

    Japanese Drama - 2022, 10 episodes

    8.0

    This is a tough one.

I loathe and despise the FL, like with the fiery heat of a thousand suns. I also loathe, to a lesser degree, half of the MC. But I COULD NOT stop thinking about this show during its run, and when it crosses my mind from time to time, I get upset all over again. lol So, seeing as I admire and love me some severe angst, bad behavior, intense drama, treachery, suspense, cheating, reconciliation, good people who do bad things, gray-area story-telling, mature themes, sex, etc. I had to admit this show really got under my skin.

The acting is very good, as is the direction, plus it has a gray, depressing, overall vibe, which I love. :D

So here it is on my list. But sweet Jesus, do I ever want to strangle the FL. This needs a sequel.
