  • The Door into Summer

    1. The Door into Summer

    Japanese Movie - 2021

    7.5

Hearing about a time travel movie with Yamaken as the lead role made me really excited. I waited for subs for a long time and finally it appeared on Netflix :)

I always like Yamaken's work. This movie, as well, was good. I like time travel movies and dramas, but I'm not that into robotics and futuristic things etc. The movie felt a bit cluttered with not everything being properly cleaned up. I did not feel attached to the romantic relationship that he and his (spoiler) "stepsister" had, nor was I particularly moved by the few interactions he had with the PETE robot.

I did however feel emotionally attached to the cat Pete. Earlier today I came back home after having been gone for almost two weeks. During the time I was gone, my cat have been alone in our house. When I came back home today, she didn't show up. I looked for her but I couldn't find her for what felt like 20 minutes or so. I was running around the house crying looking for her despite obvious evidence that she was fine (she had eaten her food well). Finally I found her and I cried so much. I love her so much.

  • The Dude in Me

    2. The Dude in Me

    Korean Movie - 2019

    8.0

Rewatched January 9th, lowered score from 9,5 to 8/10. List: Movies I've Rewatched.

This used to be one of my favourite movies, I watched it 3 times in 2019. But rewatching it 3 years later, having seen more amazing dramas and movies, I decided to lower my score quite a bit. An 8 is no longer a bad score from me. The Dude in Me closely resembles my currently favourite Korean drama: 18 Again. I love to see people get wowed by someone's change in personality, skills and/or appearance. In 18 Again, our male lead (played by my favourite Korean actor: Lee Dohyun ^^) simply becomes young again, but his years of life experience have followed him, causing him to stick out from the rest of the teens. The Dude in Me, on another hand, is a body swap movie. So our male lead's personality has completely changed. I like the body swap trope, both in this movie and just in general too. But that's the only thing that I found interesting when rewatching it, whilst 18 Again have a lot more to offer.

  • Our 30 Minute Sessions

    3. Our 30 Minute Sessions

    Japanese Movie - 2020

    8.5

I liked this movie a lot. I liked how different their personalities were so you could really see a change in his character. The music is amazing and both of their singing voices are so great. I think that Kitamura Takumi's (Sota) voice is especially beautiful. I found out that he's in a band called DISH// so I'll check them out. I've seen Kitamura Takumi in other movies before. I especially liked his performance in You Shine in the Moonlight.

I felt really sad for Mackenyu's character, Aki. I was worried that he would become another Takauji (his character in Todome no Kiss), but luckily Sota is a kinder soul compared to Otaro, so Aki could understand him and accept him.

The ending made me cry, even though the outcome was obvious. I like how abruptly it ended. I like endings like those most of the time because then there is no unnecessary after story. E.g. Flower of Evil's last episode felt unnecessary, or Healer. Both of which are two of my favourite dramas. As for this movie; something that could've made me give it an even higher score would be if they added some comedy into the mix. I would be curious to see how this story would turn out if it became a drama.

  • Reincarnation Love

    4. Reincarnation Love

    Korean Special - 2022, 1 episode

    7.5

Lol what a mess! It's so fast paced that it's difficult to take anything seriously. I love that his name, 상태 is the same as the drink (and that it also means "condition/state"). Lee Dohyun was so funny and Go Minsi's head flip when she got that lid on her forehead... xD and he took the taxi lol. It was a sweet message tho with her sending the do–over drink to him because she wants to spend every day with him. She must've liked his silliness from the first time they met lol ^^

Wish this was more than an ad. Hope to see more of Lee Dohyun soon :)

  • Dew the Movie

    5. Dew the Movie

    Thai Movie - 2019

    9.5

What a beautiful movie. As someone who believes in reincarnation, this movie touched me deeply. Only focusing on the surface of this movie will fail to show you its beauty, whilst only focusing on the message and beauty of the movie will make you seem ignorant, even though it is not your intent. I understand both sides of the argument, but I choose to see the movie as it is.

I haven't seen the Korean version of this movie; I picked up this movie because of Ohm. His performance in this movie was really good, as always.

  • The Pirates 2: The Last Royal Treasure
    7.0

I liked it. It was a nice watch with good acting and visuals. The story is a bit cliche; not very original for a pirate movie. I don't think it's that special, but if you're a fan of pirate movies then this one is worth a try. It was definitely worth watching.

  • His

    7. His

    Japanese Movie - 2020

    8.0

A calm sweet movie. I've had this on my ptw list for over a year now I think, but now I finally decided to watch it. It reminds me of Restart After Come Back Home. Sora was so cute. It was a really nice watch; I liked the vibe this movie went for, it felt calming and removed my anxiety.

Also, the actor who plays Shun is the same guy that plays Hotei, Takauji's unhealthily loyal friend in Todome no Kiss lol.

  • Today's Kira-kun

    8. Today's Kira-kun

    Japanese Movie - 2017

    9.0

Rewatched March 27th. List: Movies I've Rewatched.

Today's Kira–kun is one of the best shojo manga adaptations out there. I really love this movie.

  • Wolf Girl and Black Prince

    9. Wolf Girl and Black Prince

    Japanese Movie - 2016

    8.5

Rewatched March 31st. List: Movies I've Rewatched.

    This is one of my guilty pleasure movies because the male lead is so mean, yet I just like the movie regardless... I watched the anime Wolf Girl and Black Prince before I watched this movie for the first time, and I wasn't a big fan of the anime. It's funny that I like the movie then lol, right? ^^;

Yamaken has a few mean roles: Suki na Hito ga Iru Koto, Todome no Kiss and this movie. But I really like Yamazaki Kento. His acting is really good, of course (heard that Alice in Borderland s2 is confirmed to air towards the end of this year), but the main reason as to why I like him is because he is so familiar. I've seen him in so many shows that it's unavoidable to like him. In this movie as well; I don't like his character, but I like him lol.

  • Orange

    10. Orange

    Japanese Movie - 2015

    9.0

Rewatched April 2nd. List: Movies I've Rewatched.

Having just finished rewatching Todome no kiss a couple of hours earlier, I already missed Yamaken, so I decided to rewatch this movie.

  • The Handmaiden

    11. The Handmaiden

    Korean Movie - 2016

    4.0

I felt very uncomfortable. I remember that I tried to watch this movie a few years ago. Innocent teenage Silje checked the top ranked movies here on MDL and decided to give The Handmaiden a go. But oh, she didn't read the tags beforehand and got shocked when she saw a naked woman in a bath lol. She clicked off and tried to erase it from her memory.

Now I am a 20 year old adult. But I felt very uncomfortable. The story was good, the visuals were pretty and the acting was great. It's the sexual content that makes me feel uncomfortable. I had to fast forward the two most intimate scenes because it was way too much for me. But I feel like if the sexual content was missing from this movie then it would not have this high of a rating on MDL (and elsewhere). The story is good but it's nothing that special without THAT shock value. I think that this movie is made for people who enjoy watching sexual content or see it as artistic.

I managed to complete it but I don't think I will ever rewatch it.

  • Fabricated City

    12. Fabricated City

    Korean Movie - 2017

    9.0

Rewatched May 15th. List: Movies I've Rewatched.

This movie came to mind and I felt like rewatching it. I recently completed 안나라수마나라 so Ji Changwook has been on my mind lately. I really like this movie. It's full of action and emotion and it never dies out throughout the whole movie. Ji Changwook looks so cool in action movies and dramas. I heard there is a new action project going on that Ji Changwook will be a part of; looking forward to it! ^^ Ji Changwook is currently in the top 3 of my favourite actors (after Lee Dohyun and Yamazaki Kento). Fabricated City is a very cool and entertaining movie with lots of action and stunning visuals (both objectively and *uhum* of course our male lead actor). I hope to rewatch this movie again sometime in the future :)

  • Forgotten

    13. Forgotten

    Korean Movie - 2017

    10

Rewatched May 23rd. List: Movies I've Rewatched.

(Spoilers) A masterpiece movie where the villain is our hero. Forgotten is my most rewatched movie on MDL, and it's for good reason. The plot is so creative and genius; I get awed every time, no matter how many times I rewatch it. There are no fillers; everything carries importance to the plot and characters, no matter how small something may seem. I got mind-blown the first time I watched this movie because there were so many plot twists I could never guess what would happen next; my favourite types of stories. The story is shown from our villain's perspective, thus the true "heroes" in this story are presented as villains to us. I think it's so fxxxing creative and cool.

The visuals and the acting are of course spectacular as well. Haneul is so talented, I have a soft spot for him lol ^^

Ahh... this movie is so good! ㅠㅠ

  • She's Dating the Gangster

    14. She's Dating the Gangster

    Filipino Movie - 2014

    7.5

Rewatched June 3rd. List: Movies I've Rewatched.

I watched this movie for the first time in 2019, so I didn't remember anything about it when I rewatched it. It has been floating around my Netflix homepage for over a year now I think, so I finally decided to rewatch it, as yet another attempt to get over Heartstopper.

I did not remember it being sad. I went into this expecting and hoping for a cute cliché romcom but no. It's still an ok movie, but I was not in the mood to cry today. I just painted my nails black and they almost got ruined when I had to blow my nose with a tissue. But it's cute, it is. The acting is ok, but the spark between the leads are on the weaker side (although not 2gether weak). Most likely won't rewatch it again.

  • My Little Monster

    15. My Little Monster

    Japanese Movie - 2018

    8.0

Rewatched September 17th. List: Movies I've Rewatched.

I still stand behind that this is one of the best based on a manga/anime live action movies. It's really well made with great acting. Masaki Suda is perfect as Haru, and Tsuchiya Tao makes a really good Shizuku as well. I've seen the anime before and maybe I read some of the manga as well (I don't really remember), but I think that I like the live action the most.

My 2019 Movies list covers my thoughts on My Little Monster from the first time I completed it.

  • Princess Jellyfish

    16. Princess Jellyfish

    Japanese Movie - 2014

    7.0

Meh. It was pretty bland with the only thing standing out being Masaki Suda wearing feminine clothing (and his acting). (Spoiler) It would've been nice to see some romance between him and the female lead but instead she fell for his brother, but there was barely any romance between them either.

  • Better Days

    17. Better Days

    Chinese Movie - 2019

    10

Rewatched October 24th. List: Movies I've Rewatched.

Still one of my favourite movies of all time. I can't decide between this one and Koe no Katachi. It's such an awful beautiful movie. It was past midnight and I just felt like rewatching it again. Now it's almost 5am.

  • 20th Century Girl

    18. 20th Century Girl

    Korean Movie - 2022

    8.5

Wow... didn't expect that. I picked this movie on a whim thinking it'd be nice to watch some fluffy romance, which I did get! But then... sigh... But honestly, the ending is what made me give this movie an 8,5/10. Just the fluff was cute, but only enough for an 8/10. The ending made it more emotional to say the least... which made me raise my score a tiny bit. (Spoiler) That was so sad! Oww!!! </3 Why must you hurt me like this??! ㅠㅠ It's freaking Halloween today and I'm not celebrating it this year because I don't have a social life (ㅜ.ㅜ) so I just– I just... put on this movie~ ㅠㅠ But it was good. It was cute, engaging and heartwarming. A perfect recipe for heartbre– wait, what?? No! I just... ㅠㅠ I wasn't feeling for a sad ending today... But I don't regret watching the movie. It really was good and I might rewatch it someday in the future.

  • The Lost Lotteries

    19. The Lost Lotteries

    Thai Movie - 2022

    4.5

Eeeeehh... Is it because I just finished watching a good series or because First was barely in the movie, or was the movie just meh? Probably all of the above is why I didn't enjoy this movie as much as I had hoped. Putting aside that I watched this only because of First (he looked great btw), the story wasn't gripping and I didn't feel attached to the characters as all. Rather than bland, it just wasn't... enough (?) story/character wise for me personally. The comedy missed me as well; I didn't find it funny.

I feel kinda bad for being so harsh on this movie... :/ But what can I do? I didn't like it. It is the first movie that First is starring in so I was really looking forward to seeing him play this bad guy role. But he was on screen for like 1 minute (if even that). The outfit and the tattoo looked good on him tho. Hoping to see him take on more diverse roles like this one in the future~

  • L♥DK: Two Loves Under One Roof

    20. L♥DK: Two Loves Under One Roof

    Japanese Movie - 2019

    7.5

Hmm... I like that it's like a continuation of the original movie. But I'm reeeeeaaally tired of the "lovers separated" conflict in stories... I've never liked that trope no matter the outcome, and the fact that it's being used so often in media makes me wonder how many people actually enjoy watching that... To me it's cheap storytelling... And if he wanted to protect her couldn't he just do it from Japan?? (because it didn't sound like it HAD to be America, and that America was just the only option he thought of and was just like "alright, lets do America then!"... –_–;) Which he (spoiler) eventually decided to do once he thought twice about it...

But at least it was a cute movie.

  • Character

    21. Character

    Japanese Movie - 2021

    9.0

Wow, this is a very good movie! Although it sounds weird, I could relate to Yamashiro Keigo (Masaki Suda's character) a bit, especially in the beginning of the movie. I'm also working on a graphic novel (not a manga tho) and it's a murder mystery with some other stuff as well. I don't have any other job and my progress is slow. I can give you reasons and blame it on my mental health, but I ultimately don't have any excuses for my lack of discipline. Of course, Yamashiro Keigo is a lot better than me at drawing, but when it comes to character creation we struggle the same. I'm still trying to better my characters and my story, but it's hard. I'm not very experienced in the world so most stuff is just straight out of my imagination. I try my best to put myself in my character's shoes, but I never even thought about doing that with my antagonists. It's not that they're underdeveloped compared to other characters, it's just that I can't imagine myself ever doing what they are supposed to do in my story. But maybe I should try, although in a more sane way that is lol.

I made a recommendation for it to Strangers From Hell: It wasn't until the end of the movie Character that it hit me how similar it is to the drama series Strangers From Hell. In both the movie and the drama our main leads are a crime writers. Both of them gets gaslighted by the killer/s, convincing them that they are the same as the killer which gives them more and more mental destress as the story progresses. The movie and the drama both have this scenario that the two (the lead and the killer) become one, which causes the lead character to go insane. In both shows the story ends with a shot of the lead character in a hospital bed after the gruesome finale.
