Resolute Drama Ladies

These ladies are somethin' special, and I love them. They know what they want, and will do what is in their power to get it, and while doing so, these girls remain poised and true to themselves. These are woman who don't necessarily need the man, and are strong on their own... of course this just makes their duo even stronger (because this is a drama, and lets face it, there's a duo involved).

If people think I'm missing someone then please do leave a message and I'll try to check out the show if I haven't already, but please also remember that this is just my own opinion, so if the person isn't on this list after the suggestion, please don't take it personally. (However this doesn't mean that you can't try to convince me still, I'm up for a fun discussion ^.^)

I feel like I should put some disclaimers on these 2 lists... I don't necessarily find something wrong with the others not on this list, but your basic characters in drama's tend to hold back one's capabilities or put unrealistic pressure on people, this list is made to celebrate those characters that break out of those molds made for them, and instead do their own thing, they may not be perfect at it, but they are a site for sore eyes. >.< Also, I'm not perfect at finding these all the time. These are just characters that I've found.

  • Saimdang, Light’s Diary

    1. Saimdang, Light’s Diary

    Korean Drama - 2017, 28 episodes

    9.5

Shin Saim Dang played by Lee Young Ae

I am considering also adding Young Ae's present day character Seo Ji Yoon, as the characters are somewhat similar though, I decided to pick Saim Dang.

We watch Saim Dang's character grow from a teen to a woman with 4 children to take care of. Having made a decision in her youth to save her love and marry someone else, Saimdang stands by it, wishing to not involve her children in a scandal and to stand by her husband. Now things happen (as they always do in dramas >.<), however Saimdang remains poised and takes care of her family using every resource at her disposal in order to support her family and do her best to make their, and other's in need, lives better. Saimdang never resorts to violence or petty tricks to win over her opponents, only forgives them and remains honest in her own work. While this does make Saimdang almost seem inhuman in her abilities to cope with things, we also see later how much these things hurt and sadden her when she is away from it for a moment. Saimdang is living in Joseon and is aware that, as a woman, she doesn't have a lot of choices in what she can do, however, still pushes the boundaries in order to make a better world for her children, and her children's children, and so on. Honestly Saimdang is so strong, it was beautiful to watch.

Aaaaannnnnnd a bonus; of course while there is a lot of dramaziation, Saimdang is based off of a real person, and this made me want to learn more about her. ^,^

Jo So Ji played by Lee Shi Young

So Ji is a woman who has lost her daughter in a murder, and instead of getting justice for her daughter, she ends up loosing her job, and is on the run. While So Ji does end up going crazy about it (somewhat understandable after loosing her child like that I believe), she ends up being invited to a group set up to bring justice to people who have been wronged. This allows her to channel her energy elsewhere, leading her to start to question who exactly is leading them and what their plan may be. She does not let herself just be blindly controlled and remains true to her own moral code.

Dam Yeo Wool played by Bae Suzy

Dam Yeo Wool is the daughter of a martial arts master. Thus as a child, she learned how to fight and defend herself. She dresses in boys clothing, not to hide herself and pretend to be a man, but, as far as I can tell, because she just feels more comfortable in it. Her character isn't pushed as masculine or feminine... just... her, and I really appreciate that.

    9.0

Bae Ta Min played by Im Soo Jung  and Cha Hyun played by Lee Da Hee

This drama is filled with resolute ladies who are unapologetically themselves. Bae Ta Min is very analytical, which helps her with her job, but not as good with people. She knows what she's good at, and she knows what she wants in life and will not budge. While this can be annoying... I kinda feel bad for her love interest... I also like she didn't just turn to mush because of love.
Cha Hyun is the type to do anything in her capability in order to protect her friends. She will always have your back, and you can count on that, and I love her for that. Ta Min and her clash in the beginning, but once they start to understand each other, this power duo is unstoppable.

  • Seirei no Moribito

    5. Seirei no Moribito

    Japanese Drama - 2016, 4 episodes

    8.5

    Balsa played by Ayase Haruka

Balsa is great. She's a body-guard-for-hire, and she's good. She uses a spear she's learned since childhood, and can win against nearly everyone. She's not afraid to get help from those around her, but it's because she helped them that their willing to extend help to her and the people she guards. However she doesn't necessarily need their help for more than lodgings and familiar ties, otherwise she can handle herself no problem, and the fight scenes are great to watch. <3

Moribito is a 3 season drama, the first season being 4 episodes long(and mostly like a prologue and finishes it's plot) and the other two being 9 episodes each that continue the story and should be watched more together (think more like 18 episodes). It is also an anime, but from what I've heard it only really includes what happens in the first season.

Captain Jang played by Kim Tae Ri

Second time on this list? Kim Tae Ri, definitely a great way to become one of my favorites, lol. Anyway...
When we meet Captain Jang, we are introduced to a woman commander of the space sweepers crew on the Victory looking very BA, but has a drinking problem, and all on the crew are somewhat ready to explode. However, we find that she is incredibly intelligent, knows her crew well, and is able to switch to different positions in the crew as well as able to use her skills and quick thinking to get the crew out of sticky situations.
