Ye Chen's family immigrated to the United States and opened their own restaurant, but she became deaf because of a fever and inflammation of the external auditory canal. When she went to college, her hearing loss became more and more serious. Later, she joined the Hong Kong film industry in 1987. She never had any ambitions, just to earn living expenses.
