Ruan Ling Yu was a Chinese silent film actress from Shanghai. She graduated from Chongde Women's High School & debuted as an actress in the 1927 film "The Couple In Name".

One of the most prominent Chinese film stars of the 1930s, her suicide at the age of 24 led her to become an icon of Chinese cinema. In 2005, she was chosen as one of the top 100 Chinese film actors by the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival.
