He was appointed as a judge in 2006 and began writing books in 2009 when he published "Dokdo in the Hague" about the conflict between South Korea and Japan over Dokdo Island and has several literary awards for his novels and essays. In 2014, he was sent to the United Nations International Criminal Court and was part of the trial against former President Radovan Karadžić, who was responsible for the Bosnian civil war.
In 2017 he decided to quit being a judge and decided to become a civil servant and worked for the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. In 2020 he was appointed as judicial review officer during the administration of President Moon Jae In and later extended during the administration of President Yoon Seok Yeol.
