He began singing trot at the age of 4 and his vocal skills were immediately noticed by many. In 2000, he appeared in "Korea Sings" and was labeled by the late Song Hae as a trot prodigy. Many current young trot singers such as An Yul or Jeong Dong Won are quick to mention him as an inspiration to become trot singers. In 2005, he participated in the "15th Nam In-soo Song Festival" and won the overall grand prize and grand prize in the youth section. He made his official debut the following year with the single album "Jiwon's First Story". In 2007, he appeared in a minor role in the KBS reenactment show "The Clinic for Married Couples: Love & War" but his family was completely against the idea of him becoming an actor, so he never pursue it. That same year, he received a call from Columbia Records Japan offering him the chance to perform as an enka singer in Japan, an offer he accepted. He spent 6 years there and returned to South Korea in 2013 with the single "Ayaya" and, in 2015, he enlisted for his mandatory military service and was discharged in mid-2017. In 2020, he entered the singing competition "Mr. Trot Season 1" and managed to form a deep friendship with some of the other contestants like Kim Soo Chan and Lee Chan Won but was eliminated in episode 6. Since May 2021, he is a radio DJ for BTN Radio.
