Ida Daussy is a French born, South Korean TV personality, author and professor based in South Korea. She obtained a bachelor's degree in Linguistics and a master's degree in International Trade from Le Havre University before moving to South Korea as an exchange post-graduate student. She then obtained another master's degree in Korean Language Studies and a Ph.D. in Sociology, both from Yonsei University. She is one of the 1st foreigners who appeared on South Korean television during the 1990s at a time where the country was not well-known in the West. In 1995, she became a French instructor at Yonsei University and because of that, she was selected by EBS to appear in French conversations. In 1997, she became a South Korean citizen, decided on Seo Hye Na as her Korean name and had to renounce to her French citizenship as law forbade her to have both. She began appearing in many variety and talk shows due to her surprising wit and sense of humor and because foreigners were such a rarity on Korean television that most stations wanted to have a foreigner who spoke decent Korean on air. In 2009, she divorced her 1st husband after years of financial problems due to his failed business and a chaotic relationship with her mother-in-law. The woman later spread rumors about Daussy being unfaithful and abandoning her husband who had colon cancer. However, the public soon learned the truth when the man was found to be cancer-free since 2007 and confessed that he was the one who cheated on Daussy. In 2013, she became a professor of French Literature at Sookmyung Women's University and a board member of the Korean-French Chamber of Commerce, so her TV appearances have decreased since then. In 2019, she married a French man who also lives in South Korea and both have decided to stay in the country.
