Nagai Yoshio is a Japanese novelist and historical commentator born in Fukuoka, Japan. He graduated from Fukuoka Prefectural Shuyukan High School. Subsequently, he completed his studies at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, majoring in the Indian and Pakistani languages.

After working at Fukuwa Shoten's editorial department and the Japan International Cooperation Agency's Public Relations Division, Nagai became a freelancer. He engaged in tasks such as translating and writing about Chinese classics, copywriting, and serving as a news editor for FM Japan. He was also involved in research on China's population and development at the Asia Population and Development Association.

In 1995, Nagai made his debut as a novelist with "Fukagawa Ryokikishinju" (Strange Love Suicide in Fukagawa).
